Another good read from Way Up North

I'm so impressed by the Democratic senator fighting for the Republican senator, in such a, ahem, display of bi-partisanship. And assuming that the judge says she won. She probably did .. but then, why the full-court press to discourage the Republican nominee from pursuing his goal?

You probably already know the answer to that question.

ANWR Under Assault Again

From a new blogger Way Up North

ANWR (& Alaska) Under Attack Again
From the Anchorage Daily News:

WASHINGTON -- If there were any doubts about the President Barack Obama's opinion of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, the White House dispelled them Monday, on the 50th anniversary of one of the country's most powerful symbols of wilderness.

The reality is that this uninhabited, frozen marsh & swampland, north of the Arctic Circle, may be declared a national monument - the same tactic that the Federal government has used so often in the recent past to gobble up huge swaths of state-owned land all over the western United States.

The environmentalists would have you believe that there is a crying need to protect "the wildlife" in that area, and the truth be damned. But the fact is that ANWR is a region through which caribou herds migrate ... and the drilling which has been proposed for those lands occupy an area -well, let's tell the truth, shall we? (I know that's a foreign concept to the tree-huggers, but let's keep it real. There are few trees in ANWR, anyway. It's almost entirely tundra grasses.)

If ANWR were a basketball court, then the proposed drilling site bears the relative size of a postage stamp on that court. And direct observation, for the record, has shown that the caribou herds which migrate across lands where the Trans-Alaska Pipeline System (TAPS) is above ground, have increased in numbers since TAPS was built.

RIB MOUNTAIN -- Early birds got the pasta Monday as the long-awaited Olive Garden opened on Rib Mountain Drive.

Dozens of people packed the parking lots surrounding the new restaurant, gathering in small groups in the lobby.

Joan Stencil and her granddaughter Morgan Rachu, 12, of Marathon arrived at the restaurant at 3:45 p.m., hoping to be among the first guests. They left Olive Garden 90 minutes later, happy with their selections of fettucine alfredo and steak with Gorgonzola cheese.

"We walked right in, sat right down," Stencil said. "(Morgan) just had to come on the first day, and everything was delicious."

Expansion on tap for Stevens Point Brewery
By B.C. Kowalski • Journal staff • December 7, 2010

The Stevens Point Brewery is about to expand again.

The Stevens Point Plan Commission approved a conditional use permit Monday for the brewery to add a 6,600-square-foot warehouse at 2617 Water St.

"We've seen an increased interest in craft beers," said Art Oksuita, the brewery's director of operations. "We couldn't meet the demand last summer."

The brewery added 2,700 square feet last summer and then another full-time employee in October.

The expansion approved Monday probably will allow the brewery to add two or three full-time employees to its current staff of 35.

For Oksuita, that's good news in tough times.

Sorry, I'm not into craft beers but for those of you who do,

Help For Some Elderly

This is a good thing.

From the Iron Mtn Daily News

Project Lifesaver set to begin in Florence County
December 6, 2010 - By THERESA PETERSON, Staff Writer

FLORENCE, Wis. - Members of the Florence County Sheriff's Office have been trained for an international program now available in this area.

As members of Project Lifesaver International, they will provide a program dedicated to safeguarding and locating individuals who may wander and become lost due to Alzheimer's disease, dementia, autism, down syndrome and related conditions.

As a result of the efforts of volunteers and contributions from the Helen Bader Foundation and the Alzheimer's Foundation of America, Florence County Human Services Department and Florence County Aging Department, the Florence County Sheriff's Office is now able to make this program available to vulnerable citizens.

Project Lifesaver is designed to provide security and comfort for the family while safe guarding the memory-impaired and those who are least able to help themselves.

"We have an elderly population in Florence County and there has been success with this program nationwide," said Chief Deputy David Gribble.

State-of-the-art personalized radio transmitters are assigned to people who are at risk of wandering away from their homes and becoming lost.

This radio transmitter is the size of a wristwatch and provides a constant radio signal.

It is lightweight, water proof and the batteries are changed with the assistance of trained Project Lifesaver personnel on a monthly basis.

The radio wrist transmitter emits an automatic tracking signal every second, 24 hours a day. Each transmitter has a unique radio frequency.

In the event a client wanders and becomes lost, the caregiver will call 911 and the trained personnel will be dispatched to the last known location.

Wis Should Follow Mich DNR

Wisconsin Governor elect Scott Walker could look to Michigan in how to fix the WDNR.
From the Escanaba Daily Press
New DNR chief aims to boost hunting
December 6, 2010

LANSING (AP) - The incoming director of Michigan's reorganized natural resources agency said he wants to reverse a steady decline in the number of people who hunt and fish in the state.

Gov.-elect Rick Snyder has named Rodney Stokes as director of the Department of Natural Resources. The incoming Republican governor is dividing the old Department of Natural Resources and Environment into two agencies. Dan Wyant will head the new Michigan's Department of Environmental Quality.

Stokes told The Detroit News he wants to do something about the slow but continuing drop in the number of people buying fishing and hunting licenses in Michigan.

He said he wants to expand the focus of the department's recruitment efforts beyond young people and encourage adults to take their neighbors hunting or fishing.

Stokes also said he has no plan to increase license fees, set in 1996.

Splitting up the WDNR could be a first step.

By JONATHAN WEISMAN And JOHN D. MCKINNON

WASHINGTON—Aides to President Barack Obama are proposing a one-year reduction in the payroll tax as part of negotiations with Congress on a broader package to stave off income-tax increases due to take effect next year.

Under the White House plan, the Social Security tax paid by workers would drop temporarily by 2 percentage points, to 4.2% from 6.2%, a person familiar with the proposal said. For a worker earning $40,000, the tax savings would be $800.

Split The WDNR, Cut Off It's Head

From one of the few Wisconsin papers of record , The Lakeland Times.

Written by Richard Moore

Please, Mr. Walker, among all the busy tasks you will undertake upon your inauguration, please - once and for all - take action to split the DNR into as many pieces as you possibly can. Two will do, if that's all we can get.

Yes, yes, I understand the budget deficit is nothing less than an emergency and that job creation must be Mr. Walker's other top priority. But that doesn't mean every other issue must be tossed on the back burner. After all, he's taking time to visit attorney general J.B. Van Hollen to give him the authority to challenge the constitutionality of ObamaCare on Wisconsin's behalf.

A worthy undertaking, but then so is splitting the DNR.

It's worth reading the whole article. Let's hope Scott Walker with fix the WDNR.

Green Bay Press Gazette Bias

When I opened the news tab at the Green Bay Press Gazette online and see,
Washington insider named Johnson's chief of staff

I go wow, say what, Johnson hiring an insider, wonder who that is.

Then I click on the article and see this headline,

Wisconsin Sen.-elect Ron Johnson chief of staff will be Don Kent

Never heard of Don Kent, is he an insider?

Then I say to my self, they changed the headline.
Let me read more.

From The Green Bay Press.
Wisconsin Sen.-elect Ron Johnson chief of staff will be Don Kent
December 6, 2010

U.S. Sen.-elect Ron Johnson has chosen an experienced Washington employee as his chief of staff.

Don Kent worked for five years in the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. His responsibilities included helping department officials prepare for Senate confirmations. He also served as the principal legislative adviser to then-Secretary Michael Chertoff.

Johnson says Kent's experience will be valuable in helping him establish his office.

Johnson, a Republican, defeated three-term incumbent Sen. Russ Feingold last month.

— The Associated Press

An insider, he worked at Homeland Security and he's an insider? An insider would be someone working for Ted Kennedy for 30 years to be an insider. Hummm, showing bias?

Is the Green Bay Press still upset that Russ Feingold lost.

What a bunch of Cry babies!

Another reason the Green Bay Press Gazette shows their left leaning bias.

2nd Week Of Advent

Preparing our Hearts and asking for the Grace

We prepare this week by stepping up the longing. We move through this week by naming deeper and more specific desires.

Each morning this week, if even for that brief moment at the side of our beds, we want to light a second inner candle. We want to let it represent "a bit more hope." Perhaps we can pause, breathe deeply and say,

"Lord, I place my trust in you."

Each day this week, as we encounter times that are rushed, even crazy, we can take that deep breath, and make that profound prayer. Each time we face some darkness, some experience of "parched land" or desert, some place where we feel "defeated" or "trapped," we hear the words, "Our God will come to save us!"

The grace we desire for this week is to be able to hear the promise and to invite our God to come into those real places of our lives that dearly need God's coming. We want to be able to say:

"Lord, I place my trust in your promise. Please, Lord, rouse your power and come into this place in my life, this relationship, into this deep self-defeating pattern.

Please come here and save me."

Wis 2010 Bear Kill, Another Big Whoop

From JSOnline. and Paul A Smith

Hunters killed a record 5,040 black bears in the 2010 Wisconsin hunting season, according to preliminary results from the Department of Natural Resources.

The previous high was 4,009 bears registered in 2009.

"From all signs, the bear population in Wisconsin is doing very well," said Linda Olver, assistant deer and bear biologist for the DNR.

The harvest record was not a surprise - the DNR issued a record 8,910 bear permits and set a harvest quota of 5,235 this year. Through last week, hunters had achieved 96% of the quota, Olver said.

The department expects the final kill number to be slightly higher as registration receipts trickle in over the coming weeks. The 2010 Wisconsin bear hunting season ended Oct. 12.

The department expects the final kill number to be slightly higher as registration receipts trickle in over the coming weeks. The 2010 Wisconsin bear hunting season ended Oct. 12.

First I have to say , "BIG WHOOP" for the second time this month."

Can I ask a stupid question? The bear season ended on Oct 12, Paul A Smith's article appeared in JSOnline 12/4 and they say "final kill number to be slightly higher as registration receipts trickle in over the coming weeks."

Do we still have pony express? Sorry, that's a slam at the pony express. They actually moved the mail pretty fast. With it being now winter even dog sleds would be faster.

So if some bear were killed in October , some people didn't register it yet?
What's the hold up? Am I missing something here? Are Bear hunters from Tipler making there way down to Green Bay by foot?

Second point, can we trust the WDNR with estimates, counts and projected kills for 2011 with how they handle deer management?
Based on the most recent study, the DNR estimates Wisconsin has a population of between 26,000 and 40,000 bears.
Population has a 14,000 count spread in the estimated numbers? So what is it, 26, 30, 35 or 40,000? If private companies were run like this, they would be out of business. Since moving to the Nicolet Forest this past February, I seen one 4 to 500 lb bear in May and one cub back in June. A second Big Whoop from me! Scott Walker has his work cut out for him.

Well if you are interested in the 2011 bear hunt,

Friday is the deadline for 2011 bear season application.

Kohl blocks DEA nomination over drug policy

U.S. Sen. Herb Kohl (D-Wis.) normally doesn't throw around his political weight.

But this week, Kohl has taken on the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, announcing that he will place a hold on the nomination of Michele Leonhart to be administrator of the agency, effectively blocking a vote when the issue reaches the Senate floor. Leonhart has been the acting administrator since 2007.

Steve Kagen Flips Finger To Marinette Marine Workers

From WBAY 2 Green Bay about the future of more ships at Marinette Marine.

But two hundred workers will lose their jobs in the next two weeks and thousands more could be in jeopardy unless congress approves the bill that will bring the $5 billion contract to Marinette. The December 14 deadline is quickly approaching, but officials say they're confident.

"Right now we believe we have strong support in the house and continuing to work with the senate where the bill will next go," says Sean Stackley, U.S. Navy.

According to congressman Steve Kagen, (D) WI 8th Congressional District, the only hold up is Arizona Senator John McCain.

"Senator McCain has offered the argument that he wants the cost to go down but then we you think about it, when will the cost ever be lower to acquire these ships. The costs will not go down from this moment forward," explains Kagen.

Kagen says that's why now is the time to seal the contract. "I think it's going to be Russ Feingold, myself, Herb Kohl and Bart Stupak who will stand forward, contact the senator and convince him."

When asked if Kagen can convince McCain before the deadline, Kagen answered, "I'm very hopeful."

Can someone explain Steve Kagen to me? He states John McCain is holding up the contracts for MM in the senate but he first says and I quote, "Right now we believe we have strong support in the house", say what? He believes he has support in the house ? Steve, Steve, you either have the votes in the house or you don't! How can you blame McCain?

Pelosi is running the House, why didn't she call for a vote?
Kagen and his democratic ilk have control of the house, they have enough votes to pass without any republican votes. You union voters are getting what you voted for, absolutely nothing!

Will anyone ask him why there was no vote yet?

Why is Steve Kagen flipping his finger to the workers of MM?

Green Bay, I Got A Roller Coaster To Sell You

From Try 2 Focus

Zippin Pippin Roller Coaster

Federal funds to demolish Green Bay’s former downtown shopping mall could be a casualty of the Republican-led assault on congressional earmarks.

U.S. Rep. Steve Kagen, D-Appleton, has pushed for $1 million in urban redevelopment funds for the city demolition project.

Kagen, however, is preparing to leave office without a federal funding commitment.

And his successor, Republican Reid Ribble, has spoken out against earmarks.

“There’s a lot of question marks around it,” Kagen spokeswoman Allison Jaslow said of Green Bay’s funding request.

“I see it as something that could actually be in jeopardy now.”

Without federal aid, city officials would be forced to find a new funding source for a central element in downtown redevelopment.
There you go Green Bay, Steve Kagen leaving you high and dry again.

Maybe if Green Bay would take care of the downtown before they buy a roller coaster (Zippin Pippin), they wouldn't be in this problem.

Glad Ribble is against Earmarks.

Walker targets early strike at state worker benefits

By Jason Stein of the Journal Sentinel
Dec. 3, 2010

Madison — Governor-elect Scott Walker signaled Friday that he'll try to seek state worker concessions on pensions and health insurance within just months of taking office - hastening a potentially bitter showdown with unions.

To help bridge budget gaps, Walker said in an interview with the Journal Sentinel that he's also prepared to seek changes to state labor law that would give his administration new power to ratchet down union benefits.

Oh No.
Union leaders accused Walker on Friday of seeking to walk out on labor contracts already agreed to by Democratic Gov. Jim Doyle's administration in recent weeks. Bryan Kennedy, president of the professional workers union AFT-Wisconsin, said the Legislature or rank-and-file union members would need to reject the contracts before the state could reopen talks.

You know, the state is broke. If the union doesn't want to sit down and start fixing the budget they might go out on strike. What will happen next? Who will work?

Hey Scott Walker, if you need someone to help out the state while the workers are out on strike, give me a call. I'll work for a fraction of their pay and I need no insurance or other benefits.

I'll work for you. If I had a shovel in my hand, I sure wouldn't use to keep me standing up along side the road.

I bet a lot of people out of work in the state would step up to the plate to make some extra money working for the state.

Go ahead state workers, make his day!

Pulaski Wis, Kremlin Of The North?

I wrote a post on the overspending and high priced Pulaski Community School District. Since education is so left in ideology I thought since they call Madison the Kremlin of the west I might be able to call Pulaski the Kremlin of the north.

It amazes me how the tax payers of the district let the school board and superintendent run rough shot over the tax payers.

I thought I would look at the governors election results. If the people of the Pulaski Community School District are interested in the spending of the district, how did they vote for gov? Let's see at three voting areas in the school district.

.........................................................................Barret .........Walker

Brown County results here
VILLAGE OF PULASKI Wards 1 - 3 & 6.......393.............582
TOWN OF PITTSFIELD Wards 1 - 4 ............397 ............754
Oconto Oounty T Chase W1-4 ..........................350............640
Totals..................................................................1140............1976

First I take back Pulaski being the Kremlin of the North. There seems to be enough logical people living in the area. The election results show that.

So by almost 2 to 1 they voted for Walker over Barrret. I know from first hand knowledge the Barrett vote came from the staunch senior democrats and most not all employees of the school district. Yes, they have that many liberal left leaning employees and school board members in the Pulaski School District.

It will be interesting when next summer and fall the district drops the bomb on the laps of the tax payers. When Scott Walker cuts the spending of school funding and leave the spending of each district up to the tax payers of the district, the big question will be.

Will the tax payers sell their souls to pay for the high priced over paid Pulaski Community School Distinct or tell them to live with in their means? Will the tax payers have the guts to say, "Stop the Madness, No to over spending!" No to Wi Fi on Buses, no to health clubs in school, Just plain no!

I can't wait till next year.

Pulaski Community School District, Out Of Control Again

From the Green Bay Press

The Pulaski School district is out of control and here is another reason why. You can read the whole article but I thought I would take just one issue. Busing!

The wide territory means high school and middle school students living in the outskirts must be bused for miles each day. The district maintains its own bus line with 43 buses.

Lighter acknowledges spending several hours on a bus each day could be trying for children. Leaders have thought about adding wireless Internet access on buses so kids can do homework or communicate with others on the long trips.

The district also offers community nights or other activities for middle school students throughout the district, he said.

"Some of those kids live in rural areas and can be pretty isolated," Lightner said. "It's good for them to be able to come somewhere and play and have a good time, to socialize with their classmates."

First, it may be a big school district but the farthest students are away from Pulaski is twenty minutes. Isolated students, is he kidding? Can he name some students that spend 2 or more hours on one of his buses? Again is he kidding? Wireless internet on the buses, sure so kids can text or e mail a student siting next to each other on the bus ? Somebody help me here, is he kidding?

Do you know how big the Suring School District is and how far north they go to pick up students?

Second, they have 43 buses they own. That's cost of purchasing and maintenance of 43 buses. Also throw in union bus drivers, pay union wages and pay union benefits. Who's paying for this? Oh I forgot, Lightner spent $90,000 last year to buy a payloader to plow snow. That added union employees and benefits to plow the school lots. Wouldn't it be cheaper to have private business plow snow?

Some of his students are isolated? "Have a good time, to socialize with their classmates." he says. What is this, a social experiment or a place of higher learning?

This is just one part of the insanity going on in the Pulaski Community School district. The tax payers are on the hook for the health club in the school , district owned union driver buses, I pods, high paid teachers and all the other wasteful spending going on in the district. And now they are doing social experimenting with gender-specific classes for some sixth-graders.

For those looking at this from the outside, things can be deceiving. I do not live in the district but did in the past and seen first hand of the waste going on in the district. There does not seem to be a lot of tax payers up in arms about their school taxes going up every year to pay for social engineering, a health club in the school, teachers in day care centers and especially the fat cat high paid teachers driving around Pulaski in their Toyota Prius with Obama stickers on the bumper.

It will be interesting in the coming years to see how the district will pay for their Taj Mahal school district after Scott Walker starts reining in spending.

Will the tax payers stand up or just bend ...... and take it?

How About Walker Sell Some State Land

Door County Land Trust will transfer ownership to the Town of Liberty Grove

LIBERTY GROVE, Wis. -- The Door County Land Trust has applied for a 50 percent matching grant from the Knowles-Nelson Stewardship Program’s Urban Green Space fund to purchase 16 acres of land in the Town of Liberty Grove. Door County Land Trust will provide the matching funds.

Upon completion of the purchase of the land, Door County Land Trust will transfer ownership to the Town of Liberty Grove. The property will be open for hunting, fishing, trapping, hiking, cross country skiing, nature study, wildlife observation, and photography.

Public written comments on the proposed acquisition can be mailed to Carrie Mickelson, Administrator, Division of Customer and Employee Service, care of Chris Halbur, Government Outreach Team Supervisor, Wisconsin DNR, 2984 Shawano Avenue, Green Bay, WI, 54313, or sent by email to Christine.Halbur@Wisconsin.gov. Since the state is in a financial mess, maybe we out to stop for the time being buying land with state money. If the Town of Liberty Grove wants to turn it into a park or whatever, let them flip the whole bill. Hello, the state is out of money!

Speaking of state land, how about Walker sell some of the state land to dig us out of this mess. I bet there is prime land which would bring high income to the state.

What can business do that government cannot?

Answer, install high speed internet. That's right folks, after nine months of dial up service we are now with high speed super fast internet service.

I can now watch You Tube, listen to Mark Belling and surf the web all at the same time. Wow, this is like Christmas early.

No Steve Kagen didn't help me. no Jim Doyle didn't help, no stimulus, no grant money, no state handouts to get up graded.

A big thank you to Joey and everyone at CenturyLink. Wow, this is FANTASTIC.

No handouts for free internet, no government hearings at the local library, no free money from Uncle Sam. CenturyLink seen a need to increase their business opportunities, seen a need from prospective customers and upgraded lines to increase sales and their profits to their company. State graduation rate jumps to almost 90%
Change over 6-year period nears national goal, but minorities lag

By Erin Richards of the Journal Sentinel

Dec. 2, 2010

Wisconsin graduated more high school students in 2008 than it did in 2002 and is just shy of an impressive 90% statewide graduation rate, according to a new national education report released this week.

What are the 2009 numbers? Seems this comes out at a time when state and local government will have to make tough decisions in education in Wisconsin.

No, no, we can't cut back on teachers, we're making progress! If you cut bacl on teacher payrole and benefits, the numbers for 2009 will go down.

We will fall behind education nation wide. The sky will fall. Save the children. Cut back on band, sports and buses before you cut back on teachers!

Why are minorities still lagging behind other students? When will you hear, "we need to spend more money!"

Follow The Money, NASCAR Edition

From the Green Bay Press.

NASCAR partners with American Ethanol as educational tool
Farmers: Partnership 'validates' alternative fuel for consumers

The announcement of the partnership Thursday comes weeks after NASCAR said it will use an E15 blend of ethanol in its top three racing divisions, including the Sprint Cup Series.

Corn producers say the move will help them reach millions of Americans weekly during the racing season.

"We have so much excess corn we have to find a market for, and this way (ethanol production) we're keeping the corn in the state and country and creating jobs," Dave Adams, president of Wisconsin Corn Promotion Board, said at a news conference at Lambeau Field. "You have to get people educated for them to use it."

First, if there is an excess of corn, why are corn prices going through the roof?

Second, how much money is being paid to NASCAR from the corn growers?

Third, between Jimmy Johnson and now the corn whores going to NASCAR, this is going over the top!

What's next, an IROC series with the Chevy Volt?

I would have no problem with ethanol if it was sold on it's own, but why do the tax payers have to give money to NASCAR to use E 85? Remember, corn and ethanol producers now get almost 8 billion dollars in subsidies from the U S government. If it's such great product, take away the subsidies and let's see if NASCAR will use it.

Bunch of WHORES!!!!!!!!!!

FOLLOW THE MONEY!

Maybe I should rethink my two weekends at MIS?

It's Dave Hansen's Turn

From the Green Bay Press.

MADISON — Democratic state Sen. Dave Hansen of Green Bay on Thursday called for Republican Gov.-elect Scott Walker to donate excess money raised for his inauguration parties to Wisconsin food pantries to demonstrate his concern for people who are suffering.
You know Mr Hansen, why are people suffering in the first place? How much campaign money have you donated? Because of you and your party's irresponsible actions, you took our state and nation with higher taxes and more regulation to the brink of bankruptcy. A couple of points.

1) when is Dave Hansen up for reelection?
I think it's Hansen's turn to stand up for his voting record.

2) will he run again or stick his tail............. and retire from politics?

3) If he runs, we need to find a good conservative candidate to send to Madison to run this state right, not run it into the ground.

4) anyone know anyone interested?????? It's never too late to take back our government.

Speaking of Mr Hansen, will he be involved in calling a special session of the Wisconsin legislature and vote to pass all those union contracts that don't expire till next year? Or will his vote be no ?

His vote, if they do call the special session will be on his record to use against him in his next election. Will he stick his middle finger at the people of his district and the people of Wisconsin?

Will he do what is right and leave the contracts up to the new governor? We shall see.

Go ahead Mr Hansen, MAKE MY DAY

Will Electric Rates Go Up Again,

EPA to investigate 15 power plants in state

By SCOTT BAUER • The Associated Press • December 3, 2010

MADISON — The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency notified the state of Wisconsin this week that it was starting an investigation into 15 publicly owned power plants to determine if they were violating clean air laws.

You know they will find violations. their liberals in the EPA.
The EPA sent a letter to the state Department of Administration asking for information about the plants "to determine whether the emission sources at these facilities are complying with the Clean Air Act." The letter said information submitted may result in a civil or criminal action.

Sure, I can see them closing down Wisconsin power plants over three specks in the air. and create shortages and increased costs of electricity. Obama said he would raise electric rates to shut down coal fired plants, remember that in the 2008 election..

By the way, doesn't Green Bay have a coal fired electric plant at the mouth of the Fox River. I think it's called the Pulliam Plant if I'm not mistaken. Info from WIKI.

Close em down, it's for the children.

Market Sell Off Dec 15 ??????????

From US News
Failure by Congress to extend the Bush tax cuts, especially locking in the 15 percent capital gains tax rate, will spark a stock market sell off starting December 15 as investors move to lock in gains at a lower rate than the 20 percent it would jump to next year, warn analysts. [See who gets the most money from the financial industry.]

While it is unclear how bad the sell off could be, it could wipe out the year's gains, they warn.

"Capital gains tax rate will increase from 15 to 20 percent if the tax cuts are not extended. The last time the capital gains tax rate increased--on Jan. 1, 1987 from 20 to 28 percent--investors realized their gains at the lower tax rate," said Daniel Clifton at a Washington partner at Strategas Research Partners. "We would expect a similar effect this time around as investors see the tax rate going up and choose to realize their gains and incur the 15 percent tax." [See a gallery of political caricatures.]

In a memo to clients, Clifton says that the date most clients are focused on is December 15th for a deal in Congress before beginning to sell. One reason: Many stock options expire that day and investors have to act.

Will congress act to extend all the Bush tax cuts? If they don't, they could be looking at their political extinction. It could get real ugly.

What It Means To Have Dial Up Internet

An open letter to Berry Laker sons 1&2. I'm not worried, they don't read my blog anyway. I'm humoring myself again, you two readers know that.

What a day on the web.

You do not know how lucky you are to have high speed internet. It's getting late on Thursday night and I am sitting here trying to surf the web. What a pain in the butt!

As you know I have had dial up since the middle of February when we moved to the compound smack in the middle of the Nicolet National Forest. High speed internet? Remember we live seven miles from the nearest high speed internet connection.

Sure sure, you can sit there and text, surf the web and talk to your friends with those fancy phones your parents bought you. I don't have your blackberry or those fancy lap tops, I know, I know, you need them for school. Remember, I have a 2004 and still working Dell desk top. ThankYou Dell.

I cannot watch any video's because it takes 2 hours to download.

I have to read my google e mails in "load Basic HTML mode.

I have Carbonite back up but can't use it because it slows my PC down surfing the web. I have to pause the back up from 4:15 am till 7:00 pm which are some of the times during that day that I might be on my PC.

I lately found out about Microsoft Security Essentials to scan for viruses. It's free and works great. Thank you Microsoft. Oh, I forgot I set my back up at 5:00 am while I am having coffee and breakfast. What else could I do during back up.

To listen to Rush, Jay Weber or Mark Belling over the web I cannot do anything else because even going to my Google home page would interrupt the feed and cut me off. You then have to start the down load all over again. Sorry Charlie Sykes, I could never listen to you over the net, somehow WTMJ has too much clutter to download to get a clear feed.

Oh, save pictures or files, can't do. Anything I saved in my hard drive would slow my internet service so I just wiped everything out. Took up too much memory.

Satellite internet, are you kidding. First we're here in the middle of the forest, too many trees, it's too expensive and Cellcom's nearest tower is 8 miles away, won't work.

Sure, you guys can laugh at me for having a blog, but to keep some semblence of sanity I could only do what I could at Berry Laker.com with dial up. Since I quit smoking cigs it's been extra tough with dial up.

Sure sure, I know you don't remember 8 tracks, cassette taped music and black and white TV. By the way "It's a Wonderful Life" and "Miracle on 34th Street' in black and white is still the only way to watch them. I wish you could work with dial up for just one day to appreciate high speed internet.

I know you sometimes see the old man lose his cool but sometimes you just have to know why.

Well tomorrows another day and let's hope it will go better when it comes to surfing the internet.

Dam, your lucky being in Milwaukee with high speed wireless internet.

Back up is starting, good night boys.

I need a drink.

Where In The Heck Was Steve Kagen The Last Four Years

For crying out loud, I thought I was done with this guy.

From WTAQ

Kagen Pushes to Stop Renard Island Construction
Posted Thursday December 2, 2010 1 hour, 43 minutes ago

WASHINGTON D.C. (WTAQ) - Congressman Steve Kagen has introduced a bill to stop the construction of a causeway to Renard Island.

The project has been controversial because the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers chose a Milwaukee firm to build it, even though two local companies had lower bids.

The COE says it was a "Hub Zone Project," meaning it has to go to a business based in an economically-distressed community or minority-owned.

Kagen released the following statement in regards to the bill:

"Today, I filed legislation calling upon the Army Corps of Engineers to immediately stop spending taxpayer money on the Renard Island Causeway Project. Wisconsin taxpayers expect more for their money, and it is time Congress stops wasting our precious resources. We demand a complete and thorough review of all bids submitted prior to moving forward."

When did Steve Kagen ever care about Wisconsin's tax payers money in the past? He needed to get kicked out of office to have his first and only "Come To Jesus Moment" about the people of Wisconsin and the taxes we pay?

You know Kagen knew about this Renard Island project all along. It's in his district. If I'm wrong then can we say Steve Kagen knew nothing about any contacts at Marinette Marine. You Kagen voters were taken for a bunch of FOOLS!!!!!!!

What a phony or is he setting himself to run again in 2012?

For God's sake Steve,

STAY OUT OF POLITICS!

It Begins And What To Do About It

From CBS Philly

CAMDEN, NJ (CBS) – Camden City Council, as expected, voted Thursday to lay off almost 400 workers, half of them police officers and firefighters, to bridge a $26.5 million deficit.

That’s about a quarter of the city’s entire work force.

Five members of City Council voted unanimously to approve the layoff plan — two other members were absent. The cuts take effect in mid-January.
First, how does a city have a $26.5 million deficit?

I wonder if the safety of the people of Camden will come into play? I can see the MSM going crazy over stories of people not protected by police and fire fighters. I know what could happen in NJ. Remember back in the 70's the movie with,

Charles Bronson, The Vigilante.

Image from Google.

Well maybe not Boston but it could be CAMDEN, NJ.

Why do you think ammo sales has been up the past two years? The day is coming where there will be a time we will have to protect ourselves. God I hope not but you have to be honest and be prepared. The left, democrats and some unions have bankrupted this country and we are now facing the problem of living with in our means. Face it, it was going to happen some day anyway.

It's time we take back our government and live with in our means.

Did Harley's Union Take It In The Shorts?

Remember this from the Washington Post.

The financial crisis stretched even farther across the economy than many had realized, as new disclosures show the Federal Reserve rushed trillions of dollars in emergency aid not just to Wall Street but also to motorcycle makers, telecom firms and foreign-owned banks in 2008 and 2009.

The Fed's efforts to prop up the financial sector reached across a broad spectrum of the economy, benefiting stalwarts of American industry including General Electric and Caterpillar and household-name companies such as Verizon, Harley-Davidson and Toyota. The central bank's aid programs also supported U.S. subsidiaries of banks based in East Asia, Europe and Canada while rescuing money-market mutual funds held by millions of Americans.

So Harley got money from the Fed (Obama) and the Harley union had to vote for a new contract. Remember all this back in September. Link over at Epoch.

Harley-Davidson announced on Tuesday they will keep production operations in Wisconsin after the company’s unionized employees held a vote to keep the company there.

Did the union know about this before the vote? Did the rank and file know about this before the vote? So did union members vote for Obama and Obama took care of management and again it seems the union took it in the shorts.

If management got federal bailout money why did the union take a cut in the contract? Just wondering how all this happened and will anyone else ask.

Shawano Santa Parade 12/3/10 6:00 pm

From the Shawano Leader.

Holiday fun starts Friday with Santa Parade
By Kent Tempus, Leader editor

Downtown ushers in the Christmas season with the annual Holiday Stroll and Santa Parade on Friday.

Amanda Hannes, chair of events and promotions committee for the Business Improvement District, said she appreciate the atmosphere of the Stroll.

“It’s the family aspect, kids getting to see Santa, and helping make their Christmas dreams come true,” Hannes said.

The sidewalk down S. Main Street has been jammed with people in the first 15 years of the event. This year should be no exception.

Hannes said there are 47 entries for the parade, not including the color guard and Santa and Mrs. Claus, who traditionally bring up the end of the parade.

Three Shawano Com-munity High School ensembles will be performing while riding in wagons, and Shawano Community Middle School band members will also be playing.

“It should be a good parade,” Hannes said.

The event draw thousands of people to Shawano’s central business district. Many downtown merchants decorate their stores and serve refreshments for visitors. Some even bring in musicians to play Christmas songs.

The Holiday Stroll is important to downtown businesses, said Kathy Hansen, a member of the BID Board.

‘It just bring people downtown,” Hansen said. “There’s a lot of faces going in an and out of the stores to see what a nice downtown we have.”

The Stroll has continued to grow over the years.

“I think it’s turned into something wonderfully fabulous,” Hansen said. “The traffic is much heavier.”

Before and after parade, which starts at 6 p.m., visitors can stop at First Presbyterian Church for a Nativity Walk. This is the second year of this activity.

So Now When Will The Revolution Start.

Is this what we want from our government?

From the Washington Post

The financial crisis stretched even farther across the economy than many had realized, as new disclosures show the Federal Reserve rushed trillions of dollars in emergency aid not just to Wall Street but also to motorcycle makers, telecom firms and foreign-owned banks in 2008 and 2009.

The central bank's aid programs also supported U.S. subsidiaries of banks based in East Asia, Europe and Canada while rescuing money-market mutual funds held by millions of Americans.

The biggest users of the Fed lending programs were some of the world's largest banks, including Citigroup, Bank of America, Goldman Sachs, Swiss-based UBS and Britain's Barclays, according to more than 21,000 loan records released Wednesday under new financial regulatory legislation.

Who gave the Fed permission to do hand out money? Do you understand what happened hear? Money to local companies, money to foreign companies, money to foreign banks! Holy CRAP!

I think it's time we take back our country.
This is absolutely not what this country is about. Revolution!
We need to take our country back.

2010 Wisconsin Deer Harvest, Big Whoop

From JSOnline and Paul Smith

Deer-hunting statistics are positive

Dec. 1, 2010 |(1) Comments

The 2010 Wisconsin nine-day gun deer season has assumed its place in history, the most recent addition in a burgeoning book of regulated hunts dating to 1851.

Like its predecessors, deer hunt 2010 defies simple description.

Where did you hunt? What method did you use? How long were you in the field? What did you see? Why do you hunt?

There are more than 621,000 answers to each of those questions.

But if past seasons are used as a guide, 2010 stacks up pretty well.

Deer harvest increases: According to preliminary registration numbers released Tuesday, hunters killed 218,144 deer during the nine-day hunt, an 11% increase from 2009.

The total included 102,006 bucks, up 17% from 2009, and 116,138 antlerless deer, up 6%.

Is he kidding? 2010 positve?

Why will no one bring up 2007 or 2008 numbers? You know, since I was unable to take a shot or even see a deer this past 9 day gun hunt, I am getting sick of reading how much of a positive the 2010 season was.

The following info is from the WDNR. Let's look at their own numbers.

Wis 9 Day Deer Harvest 2009 201,994

Wis 9 Day Deer Harvest 2008 285,243

Wis 9 Day Deer Harvest 2007 354,384

So 2010 was great compared to 2009 but compare it to 2008, 67,099 less deer were taken.

So 2010 was great compared to 2009 but compare it to 2007, 136,240 less deer were taken.

Big whoop for the 2010 deer harvest.

Can we get serious about deer management in Wisconsin?

Scott Walker has a lot of work ahead and the WDNR should be on his "To Do List"!

The Outcome Of The Nov 2nd Election Was What?

From the Green Bay Press

New GOP majority could mean less clout for Wisconsin
Majority of state reps are now Republicans

By LARRY BIVINS • Press-Gazette Washington Bureau lbivins@greenbaypressgazette.com • December 2, 2010

WASHINGTON — Reps. Tom Petri of Fond du Lac and James Sensenbrenner of Menomonee Falls are among the five most senior Republican members of the House of Representatives, but that doesn't mean the Wisconsin congressional delegation will have any additional pull under a new GOP majority that will rule for at least the next two years beginning in January.

And while the new Republican tilt of the Wisconsin delegation seems to bode well for the state in this new Congress, it could mean fewer federal dollars back home, as GOP leaders have vowed to curb spending.

Ah, Larry, fewer federal dollars, curb spending, sounds good to me.

What the hay was the outcome of the Nov 2nd election. Big spending, out of control democrats got thrown out of office or like Obey were afraid to run again. And if the republicans turn RINO, they will get thrown out on their rear ends and become a minority party like the democrats are today!

Let's just wait and see what happens?

Michigan Was Dry On Sunday Morning

Something I didn't know about Michigan, I guess the law is changing.

From the Escanaba Daily Press

Sunday liquor sales on hold
December 1, 2010 - AP

LANSING (AP) — Sunday morning liquor sales in Michigan won’t begin until late December at the earliest.

A spokeswoman for the Michigan Liquor Control Commission said Tuesday the agency will be posting applications for the $160 license needed to sell alcohol on Sunday mornings and notifying local governments about the new law this week. Local governments will have until Dec. 15 to notify state officials if they opt to ban Sunday morning sales.

The new law will allow Sunday alcohol sales starting at 7 a.m. Previous law bans liquor sales from 2 a.m. to noon Sunday.

Lawmakers in November passed a bill that technically takes effect Dec. 1. But liquor control officials still are working to implement the new law.
