Kohl blocks DEA nomination over drug policy

U.S. Sen. Herb Kohl (D-Wis.) normally doesn't throw around his political weight.
But this week, Kohl has taken on the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, announcing that he will place a hold on the nomination of Michele Leonhart to be administrator of the agency, effectively blocking a vote when the issue reaches the Senate floor. Leonhart has been the acting administrator since 2007.
Why is Kohl suddenly playing hardball with the DEA? He said last Wednesday that he wants nursing home residents to "get timely access to the prescription drug care they need."
Why is Herb Kohl suddenly throwing around his political weight?
Because someone woke him up from his nap.
