Will the Food Modernization Safety Act make food safer?
Bill heads back to Senate for approval; industry official weighs in on impactDecember 9, 2010 - By Ashley Hoholik
ESCANABA - The U.S. House of Representatives passed legislation Thursday aimed at making food safer in the midst of massive E. coli and salmonella outbreaks in peanuts, eggs and produce.
The bill - now headed back to the Senate for approval - was overwhelmingly passed by Senate last week. The House is sending the bill back to the Senate as part of a giant year-end budget bill. Under the act, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) will gain increased power over the tracking, inspection and recalls of food - causing some concern for those in the food industry. Others in the industry believe the bill is right on track, raising the level of security for higher-risk crops.
Like the person in the comment part of this post said (paraphrasing) the same people that oversaw the BP oil spill will protect us from food poison
