Steve Kagen Again

Huntington over at Kagen Watch brings up another one Steve Kagen has stepped in.

He received a $1000 from Fannie Mae before he gave it back?

Priceless.

Another “Say One Thing, Do Another” Moment
38 Days

38 Days

"That’s the amount of time it took the Campaign of Congressman Steve Kagen to return a $1000 PAC contribution from failed mortgage giant Fannie Mae." KagenWatch.com

"What makes the timing of the return much more worth a second look is the check was returned on August 29th, nine days before the federal government placed Fannie Mae into conservatorship, and two days after Fannie Mae’s Board of Directors replaced their Chief Financial Officer.

Kagen’s Campaign knew this one was going to look bad. Very Bad.

They received the check on July 23rd, one day before the vote on the Home and Economic Recovery Act of 2008.

You can go to Kagen Watch for all the juicy details.

Sounds like a T V spot for John Gard to me.

THE way Barack Obama talks of Iraq, you'd think the whole county is a sea of fire and blood, created by the United States. So he might be surprised to learn that tour operators in Europe and the Middle East are touting this "sea of fire and blood" as a new holiday destination.

One program just put on the market by Terre Entiere, a leading French tour operator, offers a "Christmas Pilgrimage" in December to Iraq's biblical sites, some of which date back more than 2,000 years.

Another program starts in January. Called "Forgotten History," it includes visits to some of the most ancient sites of human civilization in Iraq, the ancient Mesopotamia.

"Frankly, we were surprised by the positive echoes we had as soon as we launched our program," says Pierre Simon, a spokesman for the French company marketing the Iraqi holidays. "People from many European countries, not just France, are showing interest. They want to go and see for themselves."

That Iraq should be a tourist destination is no surprise. Mesopotamia, or the Land of the Two Rivers, is universally recognized as the birthplace of civilization.

Palin, Matalin, Carville

I was looking at some blogs about Sara Palin.

I seen a clip, sorry don't remember where of Mary Matalin making some comments.

I have to ask or comment.

I have not heard of James Carville her hubby making any comments about Sara Palin?

Does Mary have the lock box on James about the Sara issue?

Can you just hear Mr Carville or is he keeping his thoughts to himself knowing Palin is a home run against Obama. He still is for Hillary. the other person we do not hear a lot about these days. Maybe this is question for Rush to answer.

"Wisconsin lawmakers to meet with NewPage CEO
By Diana Marrero
Friday, Sep 19 2008, 04:15 PM

Several members of Wisconsin's congressional delegation plan to meet next Wednesday on Capitol Hill with NewPage Corp. CEO Mark Suwyn. The Miamisburg, Ohio-based company shut down its Kimberly mill earlier this month, ending 600 jobs.

The lawmakers requested the meeting to discuss future plans for the Kimberly mill and the possibility that another company could purchase the 119-year-old mill, which has served as a major employer in the small Wisconsin town. Reps. Tom Petri (R-Fond du Lac) and Steve Kagen (D-Appleton) as well as Sens. Herb Kohl and Russ Feingold, both Democrats, plan to attend the meeting.

"From everything I've heard, the Kimberly mill has every prospect of being successful if a company can be found that wants to run it," Petri said in a statement. "NewPage should be open to selling the mill and letting everybody get back to work."

In a statement, Kohl said members of the delegation want to pursue "every option for getting the Kimberly mill workforce employed again."Lawmakers also want to figure out how to keep jobs at NewPage’s other Wisconsin facilities and how lawmakers can help improve market conditions for domestic paper companies, he said.

"Working together, I hope we can make some progress," Kohl said.

It's time for a change in congress. What do you have to loose. Things may change for the better with Gard. Again, you have nothing to loose and everything to gain.

I would give anything to be a fly on the wall in this meeting. After all the dribble from the Wisconsin politicians, can you just imagine,

Someone from New Page could say the following, "you guys screwed your voters and the workers in Kimberly and Niagara with your stupid ass laws and now you want us to bail you out for your election!"

"Don't try to screw us, I want tax deductions for the paper industry to get us to sell the Kimberly plant!"

Can anyone tell me why the Niagara plant is left high and dry? Everything is for Kimberly and squat for Northern Wisconsin.

People of Niagara Wisconsin,

You got SCREWED!

And this is from the Democrats you vote for?

Will you dems ever learn!

From Owen at B &S about the McCain Palin rally in Green Bay. Thanks Owen.
"Good Turnout

Cool.

To the delight of the crowd Thursday night, McCain and Palin entered through a cutout outline of the state, tracing the edge of the arena - where spotlights had just criss-crossed the floor - to a stage set in front of a bank of seats, below giant U.S. and Wisconsin flags.

The bowl of the Resch Center, which seats about 11,000 people, was nearly full. An additional 1,000 or so people stood on the floor, many waving signs such as “The Original Mavericks” and “Wisconsin loves McCain.”

I know some prices on gasoline are finally coming down but tell me why are the people of the 8th district putting up with Steve Kagen and high gasoline prices. Thursday, Sept 18th, I made a trip for work and noticed this on unleaded gas.

Lena - 3.69 gal.

Coleman - 3.95 gal.

Crivits - 3.95 gal

Amberg - 3.99 gal.

Wausaukee - 3.99 gal.

Pembine - 4.09 gal.

Niagara - 4.19 gal.

Steve Kagen is now in office. We are supposed to give Steve Kagen two more years, for what? $5.00 gasoline? High Gas prices is on Steve Kagens watch. How much more do we have to pay?

It's time for a change.

Ok, the GB P G has three articals about McCain or Obama. They also on the web version tell you Obama is coming to Green Bay on Monday. Are they telling you that the messiah is following John MCain to Green Bay? Well, that's besides the point. The first three headlines are McCain Pailin.

Then from the Appleton P C. Out of nine headlines not one word spoken about McCain in Green Bay. Let me see, Appleton is only 30 miles from Green Bay, the republican candidate for president and VP visit the area and they make no mention of it. What gives?

Deceitful, left leaning, rag newspaper from Appleton cannot even report the latest news of the day. And they are running a business to keep the local Appleton Newspaper afloat?

You wonder why the Appleton P C is on the side of Steve Kagen and the left!

The American "financial tsunami" hits Asia"
Pine River World News

The American financial crisis has sent shockwaves throughout Asia over the past few days as governments, banks and corporations scramble to cope with plunging share prices, international financial turmoil and the prospects of a serious downturn in the U.S. and other major economies.

All eyes were on China, which has functioned as the main economic motor for growth throughout the region. Within hours of Lehman Brothers filing for bankruptcy, the Chinese central bank cut the official interest rate for the first time in six years, from 5.85 to 5.31 percent. The decision signalled an end to Beijing's tight monetary policy to fight inflation and a renewed focus on economic growth to avoid widespread unemployment and social unrest.

Wow, "to fight inflation and a renewed focus on economic growth to avoid widespread unemployment? " Where have I heard that before, not from the left, that's for sure.

Proof That It’s All About Political Cover

Filed Under: Election 2008, Pelosi, Special Interests, Author: Gary Gross, Energy" California Conservative » Proof That It’s All About Political Cover

Today, Minority Leader John Boehner’s office issued this scalding statement on the Democrats’ hypocritical energy strategy. The statement highlights Democratic co-sponsors of the Peterson-Abercrombie bill that John Peterson and Neil Abercrombie wrote. Here’s part of Leader Boehner’s statement:
House Democrats say they want to “stimulate” the economy, but last night nearly every single one of them voted against the bipartisan energy bill authored by Reps. John Peterson (R-PA) and Neil Abercrombie (D-HI) to lower gas prices on behalf of working families and small businesses, including 24 Democrats who are cosponsors of the Peterson-Abercrombie bill. That’s correct, 24 Democrats flip-flopped, repudiated their past statements of support and cosponsorship for the bipartisan Peterson-Abercrombie bill by voting against it. And by rejecting the Peterson-Abercrombie bipartisan plan, Democrats proved once and for all that yesterday’s debate was about nothing more than providing political cover for vulnerable Democrats on the eve of an election, and not about passing “all of the above” energy reforms to make a real difference in lowering gas prices.

When it was ‘rubber-meets-the-road’ time, this group of Democrats showed where their allegiances lied. Here’s the list of deserting co-sponsors:
Rep. Neil Abercrombie (D-HI), Rep. Sanford Bishop (D-GA), Rep. Dan Boren (D-OK), Rep. Nancy Boyda (D-KS), Rep. Dennis Cardoza (D-CA), Rep. Jim Costa (D-CA), Rep. Bud Cramer (D-AL), Rep. Henry Cueller (D-TX), Rep. Artur Davis (D-AL), Rep. Lincoln Davis (D-TN), Rep. Bart Gordon (D-TN), Rep. Gene Green (D-TX), Rep. Phil Hare (D-IL), Rep. Baron Hill (D-IN), Rep. Sheila Jackson-Lee (D-TX), Rep. William Jefferson (D-LA), ..........Rep. Steve Kagen (D-WI)............, Rep. Paul Kanjorski (D-PA), Rep. Charlie Melancon (D-LA), Rep. Patrick Murphy (D-PA), Rep. Solomon Ortiz (D-TX), Rep. Collin Peterson (D-MN), Rep. Ciro Rodriguez (D-TX), Rep. Mike Ross (D-AR)

What this proves is that Speaker Pelosi has employed a strategy based on deceit. It isn’t a stretch to think she’s operated this deceitful strategy with Rep. Abercrombie’s full cooperation. It’s difficult to believe that the BDD’s weren’t willing participants, too

Reps. Boyda, Hill and Kagen are freshmen that should be vulnerable. Now’s the time to step up the attacks on their credibility. In each of their cases, I’d make the case that farmers can’t trust them to side with them. I’d attack their credibility and how that affects the trust level farmers can have with these freshmen. Here’s how I’d word the advertisements:

Rep. Boyda/Hill/Kagen once stood for an ‘all of the above’ energy package that would have brought gas prices down for hard-working farmers. When the rubber met the road, though, Rep. Boyda/Hill/Kagen sided with Nancy Pelosi and K Street instead of siding with farmers and Main Street. Don’t we deserve a representative that we can trust to represent us?

It's all about POWER , DECEIT and POLITICAL COVER!
It's only about Steve Kagen, not the people of the 8th.

This has truly turned into a "Kagen Watch."

From Gard For Congress

"John Gard for Congress

John Calls on Congress to Pass Real Energy Bill

A last minute “political Hail Mary pass” is how John described the so-called energy legislation that the House of Representatives voted on last night. Clearly caving into political pressure after being on vacation for five weeks, House Democrats cobbled together a bill that includes tax hikes and a permanent ban on drilling for nearly 90% of offshore American oil. The proposal also does not remove bans on drilling in Arctic Alaska, or contain meaningful oil shale exploration in the western United States.

John said this about the Democrats’, including Steve Kagen’s, vote:

Gas prices are back over $4.00 a gallon and the home heating season is nearly here, and this congress is only offering a bill that takes baby steps when bold action is needed. We need a real energy bill that isn’t based on election year politics, but instead sets out to give hard-working families actual relief from high prices. We can’t afford inaction from the Washington politicians any longer.

Read more here.

He Was For It Before He Was Against

Just before Congressman Kagen voted for that Democrats' bogus bill, he rejected a bipartisan energy bill that was offered as an alternative. But here’s where it gets real strange. Kagen actually signed on as a cosponsor of the alternative bill!

So, Kagen voted against a bill he says he supports. We at the Gard Gazette can’t wait to hear the explanation on that one!

Here’s what John had to say about Congressman Kagen’s maneuvering:

After repeatedly voting to make oil drilling in America illegal for the last 21 months, Congressman Steve Kagen co-sponsored a bill just last week that he said is “really a comprehensive energy policy and a road map forward.” But, when given a chance to vote for the bill he just signed on to, Kagen voted no. These kind of absurd political games need to end and we need to elect new leaders that will put people first.

JERUSALEM (AP) - Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni won the Kadima Party's primary election for its leader Wednesday, TV exit polls said, putting her in a good position to become Israel's first female leader in 34 years and sending a message that peace talks with the Palestinians will proceed.

Cheers and applause broke out at party headquarters when Israel's three networks announced their exit polls gave Livni between 47 percent and 49 percent, compared to 37 percent for her closest rival, former defense minister and military chief Shaul Mofaz.

I wonder if someone will hack Livni's personnel E Mails. From Fox News link.

Steve Kagen , "......A New Direction for Wisconsin"

.

A couple of comments.

1) He wants you to send back a card volunteering for his campaign. It says " Yes! I want to join Steve and set a new direction for Wisconsin." So in his first two years nothing happened and he wants to set a new direction? So after doing nothing but deceiving us he will now change and try to get something done? Where was he since January 2007, $3.95 gal for gasoline.

2) "passed legislation to invest in America energy", what, he just voted with Nancy Pelosi.

3) "secured funding for a new Veterans Medical Center", It was scheduled for 2010 and he got it moved up to 2009", he takes credit for someone else, Hard to believe.

4)"voted to raise minimum raise", ok that is about the only thing he did get done, I question how that helped the economy of Wisconsin.

"Together, we will build a better nation for everyone." So says his mailer.

We will build a better Wisconsin and build a better nation when Steve Kagen goes back to private practice!

Steve Kagen, thank you for the 3.95 gal gasoline in Green Bay today.

8th district Suckers

Charlie Sykes had a good comment about Steve Kagen on his show this morning. He asked if Steve Kagen thinks the voters of the 8th district are a bunch of suckers.

How can he say he was against drilling for oil,
then say he is for drilling for oil
and then vote against a bill in congress that he sponsored for drilling for oil.

Which way is it? This beats John Kerry back in 2004.

Did Steve Kagen lie to the voters of the 8th district of Wisconsin. Will the Main Stream Media look into this and report it to the voters of the 8th district?

Steve Kagen, we are not the suckers you think we are. The voters will remember this on November 4th.

Then as gas prices skyrocketed and the American people started demanding more drilling, Democrats in DC were forced to change their tune. No longer could they continue to insist on an absolute ban on off-shore drilling. So in late August, Cong. Kagen hopped on a conference call with Speaker Nancy Pelosi pushing her energy bill, which is a total sham that will make virtually no difference, but allowed him to claim he supported expanded American drilling (even if the expansion was so minimal as to be useless)." Richard William Wright - Floyd

I heard on the radio today but thanks to Jed at B & S

"Richard William Wright (28 July 1943 - 15 September 2008)[1] was a self-taught pianist and keyboardist best known for his long career with Pink Floyd. Though not as prolific a songwriter as his bandmates Syd Barrett, Roger Waters and David Gilmour, he wrote significant parts of the music for classic albums such as Meddle, Dark Side of the Moon and Wish You Were Here, as well as for Pink Floyd's final studio album The Division Bell. Wright’s richly textured keyboard layers were a vital ingredient and a distinctive characteristic of Pink Floyd's sound. In addition, Wright frequently sang background and occasionally lead vocals onstage and in the studio with Pink Floyd (most notably on the songs "Time", "Echoes", and on the Syd Barrett composition "Astronomy Domine")." Can you tell I am a Floyd Fan.

Had to add one more.

Urine Test

From Ron in Colorado, I think it fits in all of our 57 states. Thanks Ron.

URINE TEST

I sure would like to know who wrote this one!

They deserve a HUGE pat on the back!

Like a lot of folks in this state, I have a job. I work, they pay me.

I pay my taxes and the government distributes my taxes as it sees fit.

In order to get that paycheck, I am required to pass a random urine test

with which I have no problem. What I do have a problem with is the

distribution of my taxes to people who don't have to pass a urine test.

Shouldn't one have to pass a urine test to get a welfare check because I

have to pass one to earn it for them? Please understand, I have no

problem with helping people get back on their feet. I do, on the other

hand, have a problem with helping someone sitting on their ASS, doing

drugs, while I work.. . . . Can you imagine how much money the state

would save if people had to pass a urine test to get a public assistance

check?

Wonder if they do this in Alaska?

Sunday Funny

From Tom McMahon
Worried in Colorado
"Dear Abby,

I've never written to you before, but I really need your advice on what could be a crucial decision. I've suspected for some time now that my wife has been cheating on me.

The usual signs ... phone rings but if I answer, the caller hangs up. My wife has been going out with the girls a lot recently although when I ask their names she always says, "Just some friends from work, you don't know them."

I always stay awake to look out for her taxi coming home, but she always walks down the drive. Although I can hear a car driving off, as if she has gotten out of the car round the corner. Why? Maybe she wasn't in a taxi? I once picked her cell phone up just to see what time it was and she went berserk and screamed that I should never touch her phone again and why was I checking up on her.

Anyway, I have never approached the subject with my wife. I think deep down I just didn't want to know the truth, but last night she went out again and I decided to really check on her.

I decided I was going to park my Harley Davidson motorcycle next to the garage and then hide behind it so I could get a good view of the whole street when she came home. It was at that moment, crouching behind my Harley, that I noticed that the valve covers on my engine seemed to be leaking a little oil.

Is this something I can fix myself or should I take it back to the dealer?

Thanks,
Worried in Colorado"

They Are Not Kidding

From the Pine River World News

This is not funny, beware in the U P. A friend of mine told me that if you meet a moose on the road, get the heck away. In the fall time of the year they have been know to charge your car.

It's About Time.

From JSOnline and Patrick McIlheran.
"Enforcing law: How novel
Posted: Sept. 12, 2008" JS Online: Enforcing law: How novel

Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen is suing Wisconsin’s election authorities to make them do what federal law says they should have been doing for years. It’s the least he could do.

No, really: the least.

Van Hollen’s lawsuit has municipal clerks justifiably scared and has prompted synthetic outrage from critics, but all he really is asking is that the Government Accountability Board see to it that the anti-fraud checks it should have been running get run.
So we pay millions and wait years for a database the state won’t even use properly. We put off matters until fixing it threatens to bury city clerks, until seven weeks before a critical election possibly determined by a few thousand ballots in Wisconsin — the validity of which, we’re told, is unknowable but shouldn’t worry us.
Demanding the elections board do its job was the least Van Hollen could do for legitimate voters.

Bully to Van Hollen for trying to get the vote right.

My one question, what the heck took so long? I am not a fan of J B and feel he plays to the middle and left a little too much. Don't get me wrong, I give him credit for doing the right thing but question the timing.

I hate when politicians do something for the election and after elected are empty suits till the next election cycle. I voted for Mr. Van Hollen and was disappointed in his first year in office. I and others thought he was our only hope the year he got elected. Maybe it is being in Madison that affects people, turning into empty suits. O k I'm done, that felt good.

Just to clarify. J B Van Hollen did the right thing here on the voting issues. I do not want my vote disenfranchised because of fraudulent votes in Wisconsin. We know they are out there, we know it happened and we don't want it happening again. The law is the law!

One last point, it's funny seeing the left running from this issue. They need every fraudulent vote they can get.

Alaska, Palin, Oil, Natural Gas and ANWR

From The Lakeland-Times. A good read from Alaska about ANWR.

"Sarah Palin and the oil industry" Sarah Palin and the oil industry
Joyce Laabs
Features Editor
We have all heard the pundits say that vice presidential nominee, Sarah Palin, took on the oil industry. What were the particulars?

For answers we spoke with Adrian Herrera, a 30-year resident of Alaska who works with Arctic Power.

"So ANWR coastal plain holds not just oil, but natural gas. To argue against ANWR oil is the same as arguing against natural gas.

The immediate effect of drilling in ANWR would be the royalties from leasing. There would be $4 billion coming in from lease sales - this comes in whether they find oil or not.

"We need to talk facts - not fiction. The proposed development in the ANWR Coastal Plain is just 2,000 acres - or 3.1 sq. miles. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), Fish and Wildlife (USFWS), must agree to all permit construction proposals before any development can take place. No development can be deemed t harm the environment to allow oil exploration to take place.

Funny the people on the left have no common cents ($). We need oil. we need natural gas, we need renewable energy, we need them all. Anyway a good read from our friends in the north woods.

Good job Joyce.
