Frank's delay: Hitting snowmo clubs' pocketbooks
Smaller snowmobile clubs facing “dire straights”
Eric Johnson
Reporter
As state snowmobile clubs continue to rack up significant expenses for maintenance and grooming activities on Wisconsin's 22,000 miles of state-funded trails, a much-needed $500,000 of misdirected 2009 Segregated Snowmobile Fund monies earmarked for supplemental funding to clubs sits in limbo in the state's General Fund, waiting for DNR secretary Matt Frank to act on the 13.10 Transfer paperwork.
The $500,000 represents additional snowmobile trail maintenance and grooming funds generated by a $17 increase in out-of-state snowmobile registration fees, which rose from $18 to $35.
"For whatever reason, the money was stuck in the General Fund instead of the Segregated Snowmobile Fund ...," said Tom Tomlanovich, trail boss for Eagle River's Sno Eagles Snowmobile Club and Vilas County director for the DeForest-based Association of Wisconsin Snowmobile Clubs. "

Catholic Bishops, Abortion, Same-Sex Marriage.
Information you only get from Dad about the Catholic Campaign for Human Development.
"More startling evidence has been unearthed about the Catholic Campaign for Human development that shows a disturbing pattern of cooperation between the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops and groups that advocate abortion and same-sex marriage.
Two reports, released yesterday by the American Life League (ALL) and Bellarmine Veritas Ministry (BVM), reveal that the Center for Community Change (CCC), an organization recommended for support by the USCCB, has consistently taken positions opposed to the bishops' teachings on abortion, marriage, contraception, and sexuality." Who In The Hell Paid For This?
What a headline from the Green Bay Press.
1.58 million? What, will Steve Kagen take credit for this? Does anyone see a problem around the corner?
Did anyone thank the people who will be paying for their gifts?
"Gifts the keep giving
Brown County departments are relying more and more on state and federal grants to pay for new equipment, training and overtime
Press-Gazette • February 3, 2010
State and federal grants nearly doubled the cash Green Bay police used to buy equipment in 2009.
Green Bay Police Chief Jim Arts said about 93 percent of the department's $23.8 million budget covers salaries and personnel expenses. That leaves less than $2 million to pay for utilities, fuel and new equipment. The $1.58 million in grants received last year equaled about 6.7 percent of the department's budget.
Grant money helped pay for radios, Tasers, video cameras and a host of other gear." Gifts the keep giving | greenbaypressgazette.com | Green Bay Press-Gazette

Polish Army On The Move In Illinois
From Dad29 and the American Spectator.
This was interesting to read.
By the way my parents are of Polish descent.
"Andrzejewski's Army
By Robert Stacy McCain on 2.1.10 @ 6:08AM
Adam Andrzejewski refers to his opponents in the Illinois Republican primary as "the Redcoats," while calling his own grassroots campaign for governor "the ragtag army."
Revolutionary War metaphors come easily for Andrzejewski, whose showing Tuesday in Illinois will provide an early test of the ability of Tea Party activists to deliver votes in Republican primaries during this year's mid-term campaign."
The American Spectator : Andrzejewski's Army
This was interesting to read.
Andrzejewski says he was inspired by Friday's remarks from the Cold War hero who led Poland's defiance of the Soviet Union. "Walesa said that it was impossible to defeat the tanks, the airplanes and the guns of the communists. Solidarity prevailed because their principles and values were stronger."
By the way my parents are of Polish descent.

Grandpa Joke
E mail from a friend.
THIS OUGHT TO MAKE ALL GRANDPAS FEEL WARM & FUZZY....
A six year old goes to the hospital with her grandmother, to visit her Grandpa.
When they get to the hospital, she runs ahead of her Grandma and bursts into her Grandpa's room...
"Grandpa, Grandpa," she says excitedly, "As soon as Grandma comes into
the room, make a noise like a frog!"
"What?" said her Grandpa.
"Make a noise like a frog…… because Grandma said that as soon as you croak,
we're all going to Disneyland "
Kinda brings a tear to your eye don't it.?

Seniors Have it Right
From an e mail, thanks Ron, and Bring Back America
I’ve often been asked, ‘What do you old folks do now that you’re retired’? Well. I’m fortunate to have a chemical engineering background, and one of the things I enjoy most is turning beer, wine, Scotch, and margaritas into urine.
And I’m pretty damn good at it, too!
"Bet you don’t know Harold Sclumberg
By LarryD
As we get older we sometimes begin to doubt our ability to “make a difference” in the world. It is at these times that our hopes are boosted by the remarkable achievements of “seniors” who have found the courage to take on challenges that would make many of us wither.
Harold Sclumberg is such a person…"

WDOT, Put It Where The Sun Doesn't Shine
Good news from the Peshtigo Times. Peshtigo seems to be telling the WDOT something.
Way to go Peshtigo.
"Peshtigo Judiciary Opposes Roundabouts
Apparently no one except the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) wants the roundabout that is planned for access to the recently constructed 4-lane Hwy. 41 at Schacht Road and Maple Street, which is the north end of the by-pass around the City of Peshtigo.
By unanimous vote, Peshtigo Town Board recently approved a resolution opposing construction of the roundabout."

New Mini Casino on Berry Lake
Picture from Google images.
Not sure if this has got to the press yet but it seems the rumor is a new small mini casino, maybe with a gas station will be going up accross the road (CTH V V) along side Berry Lake next to Oconto County. It is rumored it will go where there is now a supper club and gas station / store in Menominee County. Menominee Casino-Bingo-Hotel is said to be doing the project. It was also rumored the Oneida Casino was backing some of the project. It should make Berry Lake Wisconsin ( map) a busy place in the area.
If it does happen I'll have to stop and see if the machines will be tight or loose. I think who ever builds it will have success. There are a lot of summer people in that area and wonder why someone didn't build one there sooner. Somebody's going to make a ton of money.
Good job Menominee Nation
Soap Box Derby
Ah, memories from ten or twelve years ago.
From the Shawano Leader
"Boy Scouts from Troops 3032 and 3303 in Shawano participated in the annual Pinewood Derby Saturday afternoon at the United Methodist Church in Shawano. Isaiah Moesch, left, and Bryce Carlson, right, watch cars race down the track. With them is Todd Sherman. Carlson won this heat with his hotdog-shaped car. Moesch was racing for Andrew Kennard. Besides racing, scouts also earned patches for their work creating their cars, which were colorful and creative. (Leader photo by Donna Hobscheid)
Hey Berry Laker son's 1 & 2. Do you remember back in Sussex when you two were in the soap box derby. I seem to remember your dad didn't know a lot about building cars, did he. Come to think of it, you guys did a great job all by yourself. To all the fathers that will participate in soap box derby, enjoy the memories, right boys!
Anyone else have any soap box stories?
A side note. The above picture could have the caption, "2011 GM / Chrysler car show", the way government motors is going, those could be the cars they want us to drive.
