Workforce Development Piggy Bank

Seems Workforce Development is getting a half of million bucks.

State gives $500,000 for Marinette Marine training
Contract to build 10 more littoral combat ships is pending

So the state is handing out free money and right in the headline it says, contract pending. What happens if the contract falls through?
The Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development announced Tuesday it will give $500,000 to the Bay Area Workforce Development Board to train new and existing Marinette Marine Corp. workers ahead of a pending contract to build 10 additional littoral combat ships at the shipyard.

James Golembeski, executive director of the Bay Area Workforce Development Board, said the funding will help the agency train workers on new technologies and processes aimed at making the production process efficient.

Congress has yet to approve a wording change that allows the Navy to buy ships from both contractors, and the service has left open the possibility only one design — and subsequently, one prime contractor — will be selected.

Hey, my good buddy Jim is throwing out money again. Remember how well he and Workforce Developement did with the workers in Niagara. I bet that was a successful ending to the people of the area.If M M is building the ships, shouldn't they be paying for the training? I smell a rat here somewhere.
The Navy, industry and local politicians say they are continuing to work for approval in Washington, D.C.

Notice they say local politicians and forgot to mention Steve Kagen or Bart Stupak by name.
Golembeski said he won't be able to use the funding announced Tuesday until there's a signed contract with the Navy.

So the money will just sit there until the contracts are signed? How convenient. I have had discussions before with my buddy Jim. I still see a lot of waste in the bureaucratic layers of job training agencies and what good do they really do?

Why not give the money directly to MM and let them train the people. No, people who think they are in charge of supposed training have to get their take and try to substantiate their pay and positions.

Talk about fraud and waste.

I sure hope Scott Walker cleans up this part of wasteful spending by the state. Time for some people to find another piggy bank to raid, leave the taxpayers money alone.
