Employers cut fewer jobs in April, jobless rate falls to 5 percent
WASHINGTON (AP) -- Employers cut far fewer jobs in April than in recent months and the unemployment rate dropped to 5 percent, a better-than-expected showing that nonetheless still revealed strains in the nation's crucial labor market.

I first want to thank Steve and Anonymous for their comments. I heard all sides on this. Even my son told me that you really don't have to register.
My reply to my son is, can you really take a chance? Does our government really know what they are doing? Will marketing people really stay off cell phones. Does government have everything taken care of to protect from unwanted and possible expensive cell calls?
I give just a few examples of government promising us and sorry we tried but didn't work!
Social security will be solvent.
Ethanol is good for all of us.
Jim Doyle balanced the Wisconsin budget.
A fee is not a tax.
No one will ever raid the transportation fund.
If you call 911 in Madison, it will save your life.
Your social security number is safe with the government.
Welfare will end poverty.
If you would like to add to my list, leave a post.
Bottom line , can we believe the nanny state will protect us like they tell us?
Do you really want to take a chance not putting your cell phone on the no call list?

Disenfranchised Votes
With all the talk of superdelagates in the democratic election, we the people of Marinette County and Oconto County have been disenfranchised in the Feb. 19, 2008 election. From dictionary .com
disenfranchise
"deprive of civil or electoral privileges," 1644, from dis- + enfranchise. Earlier form was disfranchise (1467).
February 21, 2008 U.S. Rep. Steve Kagen, the Appleton Democrat who represents Wisconsin 8th Congressional district, announced today his endorsement of Barack Obama for the party's presidential nomination.
From JS Online vote totals.
Democratic Primary
County ..........Clinton ..................Obama .................Uninstructed
Marinette ......3,798 - 51.36% ......3,504 - 47.38% ........12 - 0.16%
Oconto ..........3,528 - 49.79% ......3,459 - 48.81% ..........4 - 0.06%
From the above votes we clearly show Hillary to be the candidate of choice.
We call on the honorable Congressman Steve Kagen to validate our votes in the 8th district. We call on the honorable Congressman Steve Kagen to switch his superdelagates vote to Hillary Clinton.
We know how much anxiety this election is giving the superdelagates. We want our votes to count! We are the only two counties in the 8th district to vote in the majority for the honorable Hillary Clinton.
We in Marinette and Oconto County need to free our congressman from his concern over who should be the democratic nominee.
Mr. Kagen do the right thing and declare your superdelagate vote to Hillary Clinton. Change your vote from Barack Obama to Hillary Clinton.
We are only thinking of the well being of our 8th district congressman. We do not want to pursue legal action but will follow through to make Hillary Clinton our candidate at the Denver convention.

WHO SAYS MEN ...............
WHO SAYS MEN DON'T REMEMBER ANNIVERSARIES?
A woman awakes during the night to find that her husband was not in their bed.
She puts on her robe and goes downstairs to look for him. She finds him sitting at the kitchen table with a hot cup of coffee in front of him.
He appears to be in deep thought, just staring at the wall. She watches as he wipes a tear from his eye and takes a sip of his coffee.
“What’s the matter, dear?” she whispers as she steps into the room, “Why are you down here at this time of night?”
The husband looks up from his coffee, “I am just remembering when we first met 20 years ago and started dating. You were only 16. Do you remember back then?” he asks solemnly.
The wife is almost reduced to tears herself, just thinking how caring and sensitive her husband is. “Yes, I do” she replies.
The husband pauses. The words were not coming easily.
“Do you remember when your father caught us in the back seat of my car?” “Yes, I remember,” said the wife, lowering herself into a chair beside him.
The husband continues. “Do you remember when he shoved that shotgun in my face and said, “Either you marry my daughter or I will send you to jail for 20 years?” “I remember that, too” she replies softly.
He wipes another tear from his cheek and says…
”I would have gotten out today.”

Lib's Score Card
I was just thinking about the 06 election. How the dems promiced to change the tone of Washington. To get things done! To get out of Iraq! To lower gasoline prices! After the dems won the 06 election they came out with the Six in '06.
Let us go through their score card.
1. “Real Security at Home and Overseas” — phased redeployment in Iraq, send expanded Special Forces to get bin Laden, implement 9/11 Commission agenda
It's been almost two years, what redeployment happened? Has funding been cut off for the war? Answer, I don't think so!
2. “Better American Jobs. Better Pay” — made congressional pay raise conditional on minimum wage increase, end tax breaks for companies that outsource
Ok, min. wage up maybe, what happened to outsourced jobs?
3. “College Access for All” — make college tuition “permanently” tax deductible, cut student loan interest rates, expand Pell Grants
OK, where is the money for my son's college tuition?
4. “Energy Independence. Lower Gas Prices” — initiatives for energy-efficient technologies and alternative fuels, new laws against gas price gouging, end “tax giveaways to Big Oil”
Oh, $3.57 gal today, I guess that didn't happen!
5. “Affordable Health Care” — fix Medicare Part D, fund stem-cell research, negotiate lower prescription drug prices, end tax giveaways to drug companies and HMOs
I thought Medicare Part D was saving money? Oh, where is their plan?
6. “Retirement Security and Dignity” — beat back Social Security privatization (again), pension reform, expand personal savings incentives
What's wrong with saving SS with privatization? Oh, that didn't happen either!
Where are the lower taxes?
I could be wrong but I think they are 1 for 6.
OK, If our great leaders ( Steve and Nancy) of today would of passed and pushed through all of their six for 06, they would be
Six for six for 06.
Now I always have problems with spelling, grammer, etc. right Jim? Let me use my own form of shorthand.
If the dems would of passed all six of their proposals it would of been
.
.
.
.
.
6 for 6 in 06 or .......6 6 6
.
Scary thought! Don't get mad at me , I didn't think up such a stupid six in 06!
God help us all!
God Bless America.
We pray the American people will do the right thing this November.
Comrades, Please Explain
We talked about the low value of the dollar and wondered if a lot of Canadians came across to Michigan to buy their products on the U.S. side. His comment was,
"with all the talk of blaming the oil companies, they only cross the border for cheep gasoline."
Did I miss something?
Why would they come to the evil U.S. for fuel? At $3.74 gal in Sault Ste. Marie, what are they thinking of?
Will you comrades on the left please explain it to me?

I could say the press is way off but what the heck , I'm a simple guy, I don't get paid for this. If I can make you think , I did my job. If I can make you laugh, that's icing on the cake. Get over it! By the way, who would take me serious anyway? Who would even send me a letter? Thanks Jim

The first leg of the 8th district election race has begun.
From WBAY.com
Steve Kagen Planning for Second Term
John Gard announces his candidacy and WBAY has a Kagen headline. I guess there is no bias here! Suppose I win the powerball in the amount of 350 million. Will WBAY have a headline
" Kagen's Constituent Wins Lottery?"
I seen Fox 11 at 5:00 tonight and they pulled the same crap. Who announced and why have Kagen in a grocery store produce section on the report? What was Steve doing, watching the produce prices go up ? How long will the MSM tote the baggage for Steve Kagen?
By Elizabeth Ries and Chris Duffy
Republican John Gard officially announced his candidacy Sunday for the 8th Congressional District -- a seat the experienced politician narrowly lost to an Appleton allergy doctor two years ago.
"I'm looking forward to continuing to work hard as Congressman to represent everyone," he said.
Where's a statement from John Gard?
The freshman Congressman spent Sunday afternoon out among the public in Appleton talking with constituents about his time in office.
Hey, you don't talk to people about you, you talk to them about them! Me, me, me, me, me, me. What kind of a ego maniac did we elect. To Kagens staff, can you tell him he works for the voters! His staff works too hard to try to keep this guy straight! I fell sorry for them! I wonder how often he thanks them for their hard work? They have to be saints!
"I'm in touch with everybody. I'm very accessible, very reachable. I've been all across the district, and I'm working hard," he said.
Yes Congressman Kagen, you have been everywhere but what have you done? I seen gasoline today at $3.65 gal. Food prices skyrocketing!
He also addressed what he still hopes to accomplish. Even now that he's the incumbent, he talks about change.
Talk, talk, talk, talk, talk! What has he accomplished? Gasoline is up over .60 gal since last year.
"There's a lot more work to be done to bring about the change that we really need, like reducing the skyrocketing cost for gasoline, bringing down costs for health care for everybody, and making sure we bring higher wage jobs back to Wisconsin where they belong."
Talk, talk, talk, talk, talk, talk and more talk. He's been saying all that since he was elected. What has he done for gas prices? What has he done for health care costs? What has he done to bring jobs to his district?
But now he's working toward another goal: To be re-elected in November.
Exactly right, goals, goals and more goals! That's all he's been saying are goals and has no accomplishments! If he was in office ten years he still would give us goals and still get nothing done!
Kagen wouldn't say if he would avoid the negative ads that Northeast Wisconsin saw in the 2006 race between him and Gard.
If the sun comes up Kagen will say it's negative. If someone sneezes at an upcoming debate he will say Gard is negative for saying "God Bless You." And then accuse John of separation of church and state for bringing up God! "I look forward to a spirited and honest debate on all of the issues that we are faced with."
As for facing Gard again in a race some are calling a "rematch," Kagen appears confident history will repeat itself.
And what is the history of democratic congressman getting reelected? Hummmmmm?
"He's a fine fellow but we simply disagree on the direction of where our country's going to be going.
For he's a jolly good fellow, for he's a jolly good fellow! Oh brother "fine fellow"! What direction is it going now? Hummmmm?
We can't continue with the policies of the past. We have to take that step forward."
Thank you for being honest Steve. Your right you and Nancy giving us $3.65 gasoline is enough! We cannot continue your policies of the past year. Psst, Steve, I won't tell anyone on my blog but all these high prices are on your watch. John Gard is not our congressman!
Just like 2006, it appears this election could be very expensive. As of January, both Gard and Kagen already raised close to $200,000 in campaign money.
Yes Steve Kagen will have to run on his past. No Steve, George Bush is not running! You promised with your gal Nancy Pelosi to change this country. How have you changed it? The people of the 8th district will decide that.
And there off! It should be a spirited race.
It's Official
