A talented smoking friend named Phesant (who happens to be an excellent angler too) sent a nice batch of walleye filets he had caught in the cool waters of his home state, Wisconsin!

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- Goodyear appears to have executed the equivalent of a grand slam with two outs in the seventh game of the World Series with the tire combination it's tested during the past two days at Daytona International Speedway.

The new tires were necessitated by a complete repaving of the 2.5-mile, high-banked race track that's the site of NASCAR's next national events, during February's Speedweeks 2011."

Mark Martin, who only tested Wednesday, went so far as to tell Sirius NASCAR Radio that he felt the tires would "last 500 miles." Stucker only chuckled at that estimation.

We Have A Budget Deficit ???????

From the great Richard Moore.
"Last Updated: Thursday, December 16, 2010 12:57 PM CST
Despite deficit, state agencies seek to keep growing, spending
By Richard Moore
of The Lakeland Times

What budget deficit?

In a new report released by the Legislative Fiscal Bureau late last week, Wisconsin’s state agencies are seeking to undertake an array of new spending initiatives over the next two years – not only to cover the increased cost of basic services such as Medicaid but to support new nonessential spending for trails, parks, campgrounds and other projects."
The Rhinelander Daily News - Online news and information for the Rhinelander, Wisconsin region

I am shocked, Doyle and the dems, say it ain't so!
All totaled, the agencies submitted budget requests that would boost state spending by nearly $4 billion over the next two years and increase the state work force by 507 people.

According to the report, the state workforce would increase by .7 percent to 71,616 employees. The growth in agency budgets would total $3.94 billion over the biennium, for a total of $67.4 billion, an increase of 6.2 percent.

Confused about the process, the zoning and the environmental effects, they mostly had one question:

The Next Politician To Replace Dave Hansen ?

From JSOnline.

"Outgoing Senate Majority Leader Russ Decker (D-Wausau) and Sen. Jeff Plale (D-South Milwaukee) crossed party lines to vote with Republicans to reject the contracts. The agreements then failed on 16-16 tie votes in the Senate, leading Democrats to depose Decker and name Sen. Dave Hansen (D-Green Bay) to serve as their leader for the final two weeks before Republicans take control of the Legislature."

Government Union Contract Fails in Senate

Wow. Senator Decker argued against the process of approving the union contracts in the lame duck session like this. Kudos to him. Contracts are denied in the Senate by a 16-16 vote (tie results in motion failing). "
Boots and Sabers - The blogging will continue until morale improves...

Owen has more updates you should be happy with. You have to give Russ Decker a pat on the back.
But Decker said he was not comfortable voting for the contracts now that the “people have spoken” and voted him and other Democrats out of office. He blamed Gov. Jim Doyle and unions for not reaching an agreement on the contracts before the Nov. 2 election.

“If these contracts had been brought to us before the elections, as they should have been, this would have been an entirely different situation,” said Decker, who later declined further comment.

Thank you Russ Decker.
Now will someone go talk to the people in Washington D C.

How Can A Bill Start In The Senate

"WASHINGTON (AP) -- A massive tax package that would save millions of Americans thousands of dollars in higher taxes is headed for a vote in the House Thursday even as rebellious Democrats complain it is too generous to the wealthy.

House Democratic leaders plan to pass the bill Thursday. But first, they will hold a vote on imposing a higher estate tax than the one negotiated by President Barack Obama.

The Senate overwhelmingly passed the package Wednesday, with broad bipartisan support. Now, Obama is urging the House to pass it without changes, so he can sign it into law."

The Birth Of Our Freedom 237 Years Ago

From EyeWitness to History.com on this day back in 1773.
"The Boston Tea Party, 1773"

In Boston, the arrival of three tea ships ignited a furious reaction. The crisis came to a head on December 16, 1773 when as many as 7,000 agitated locals milled about the wharf where the ships were docked. A mass meeting at the Old South Meeting House that morning resolved that the tea ships should leave the harbor without payment of any duty. A committee was selected to take this message to the Customs House to force release of the ships out of the harbor. The Collector of Customs refused to allow the ships to leave without payment of the duty. Stalemate. The committee reported back to the mass meeting and a howl erupted from the meeting hall. It was now early evening and a group of about 200 men, some disguised as Indians, assembled on a near-by hill. Whopping war chants, the crowd marched two-by-two to the wharf, descended upon the three ships and dumped their offending cargos of tea into the harbor waters.

Most colonists applauded the action while the reaction in London was swift and vehement. In March 1774 Parliament passed the Intolerable Acts which among other measures closed the Port of Boston. The fuse that led directly to the explosion of American independence was lit.

WDNR To Save Money, Say What

From the Green Bay Press.

"Bear's death ends study of bear movement

By Jeff Starck • Gannett Wisconsin Media • December 15, 2010

WAUSAU — The Department of Natural Resources began tracking the migration of as many as 36,000 black bears in Wisconsin in 2008."
Bear's death ends study of bear movement | greenbaypressgazette.com | Green Bay Press Gazette
From the headline can we say the DNR will stop the study of black bear migration? The WDNR will save on their budget? No more study of black bear? Scott Walker isn't even in office and the DNR is cutting back on programs?
One of those bears became one of the stars of doctoral student Karl Malcom's five-year project studying bear movements.

That project came to an end on Sept. 8, however, when a poacher killed the sow, leaving her four cubs without a mother and research at a standstill.

Malcom and the DNR will continue tracking the other 28 bears in the student's population base. But they also will wonder what happens to those four cubs — which they can't track without their mother's radio collar.
First, holy cow, a student with a five year program? Second, so they were, are tracking 36000 bears in Wisconsin? Wait, they're only tracking 28, well now 27. I'm getting mixed up on how many black bears are in Wisconsin? Can somebody give me some accurate numbers? Bottom line the program is not dead from one poached bear.

I'm not sure if journalists today need to go back to school, think about what they write or are just writing from their soft fuzzy liberal slant? Remember don't believe everything you read from the headline or from the articles in the MSM.

HURLEY -- The Hurley City Council plans to adopt an anti-smoking ordinance to cover downtown taverns.

Chief of police Dan Erspamer said his department had received six recent complaints about smoking in city taverns. "We did pretty good through the summer, but as the weather has changed...," he said, not finishing the sentence.

Council members Tuesday agreed city attorney A. Dennis Cossi will draw up an ordinance. Cossi said it will mimic the state law that bans smoking in public places." Hurley plans to adopt anti-smoking ordinance
Let's see, the chief probably said more are smoking inside because it's Hurley, it's cold outside!

Why do they need an ordinance that mimics the state law? Am I missing something here? Is Hurley not really in Wisconsin? A new law when there is one already on the books?

Northeastern Wis. Snowmobile Sled Fest

For those with sleds, why not participate and have some fun.

NEWS RELEASE -

Sled Fest! – North Chase, Wisconsin

The 1st Annual Snowmobile Speed Runs will be held Saturday, January 29, 2011 at Sled Fest in North Chase. The event is being presented by Krakow High Noon Riders and Chase Sno-Chasers Snowmobile clubs, along with Stone Barn Foundation??.

Area snowmobile clubs came together with area businesses to help keep our passion for snowmobiling local. We all know that snowmobiling is an important part of the state’s winter tourism, so we are making that effort to keep it local. With the help of many volunteers, and hopefully a “little” more snow, we look forward to an awesome Sled Fest!

Speed Runs will be held at Rusty’s Sled Shop on County “S” in Sobieski. Pre-registration will take
place from 8-10 a.m., and Speed Runs will be held from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Rusty will have vendors for informational and educational information.

There will be other events taking place throughout the day. The Chase Stone Barn will be hosting tours and for the first 200 people, at 11:00 a.m., there will be a chance for someone to win a new snowmobile at the “Hole in One” Golf Contest. Rides??? Videos of racing in Montona????

One of our many pit stop sponsors, North Chase Citgo Gas & Car Wash, has a Charbroil Grill with an attached Smoker (donated by Tom Gwidt of Gwidt Home Inspections, LLC) that will be part of the many raffled items. Also, North Chase Bar & Grill will have food, music and a Snow Bunny Contest.

“I had a vision, but I didn’t know it would be big,” said Tom Gwidt. This is good for the Town of Chase and good for the clubs too. “Many area people came together, bringing their talents to the table, and I am awed of the involvement we have received,” was Gwidt’s comment.

Rusty from Rusty’s Sled Shop in Sobieski just reminded everyone that if they are unable to participate, that perhaps they would be willing to donate to the Stone Barn Foundation???, as this is such an asset to the community.

“The vision of the group is to be able to expand in future years, to work together to make it grow, and invite others to participate in the event next year also,” was the comment made by Harold Peterson, owner of North Chase Citgo Gas & Car Wash. Rusty commented, “We could have a Show ‘n Shine – which would be a contest for the best wrapped sled, best lights, etc.”

Be sure to join us in a day of fun-filled snowmobiling events – to help reinvigorate snowmobiling!

Visit our website at www.SledFestWI.com for more information.

So we start with an extension of the Bush tax rates and now get this.

From the Washington Times via Drudge.

"Forget about going quietly into the night.

Senate Democrats on Tuesday unveiled a broad agenda for an end-of-session sprint that, in other years, could be a whole year's worth of activity — ranging from an arms-reduction treaty with Russia to a major immigration bill to overturning the ban on gay troops.

And that's not to mention the nearly 2,000-page, $1.1 trillion massive spending bill Senate Democrats said they'll try to push through. The bill contains hundreds of pork-barrel spending projects and new rules governing everything from airport baggage to detainees at the prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

"We're not through. Congress ends on Jan. 4," said Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, Nevada Democrat.

The omnibus spending bill is likely to get the most attention, spanning 1,924 pages and spending an average of $575.13 million per page."

They appear when sunlight passes through ice crystals at the proper angle.

ATV's To Plow Snow

From the Appleton Post Crescent.

ATVs can legally plow snow this winter

BY MICHAEL LOUIS VINSON • POST-CRESCENT STAFF WRITER • DECEMBER 13, 2010

If you're thinking about using an all-terrain vehicle to plow snow this winter, there's good news: it's actually legal this year.

Under the new rules, a motorist can drive an ATV with an attached snow removal device on sidewalks or on public roads for up to 2 miles under certain circumstances.
