Olive Garden opening worth the wait for many

RIB MOUNTAIN -- Early birds got the pasta Monday as the long-awaited Olive Garden opened on Rib Mountain Drive.

Dozens of people packed the parking lots surrounding the new restaurant, gathering in small groups in the lobby.

Joan Stencil and her granddaughter Morgan Rachu, 12, of Marathon arrived at the restaurant at 3:45 p.m., hoping to be among the first guests. They left Olive Garden 90 minutes later, happy with their selections of fettucine alfredo and steak with Gorgonzola cheese.

"We walked right in, sat right down," Stencil said. "(Morgan) just had to come on the first day, and everything was delicious."
