The state-funded snowmobile trail system in Vilas County will officially open at 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 10. The use of caution is strongly recommended. Trails are in early season condition and riders may encounter rough areas and icy patches. More snow is needed to enable area snowmobile clubs to provide the well-groomed world class trails for which Vilas County is noted. It is not recommended to cross area lakes until the route across the lake is clearly marked. For more information about trail conditions, contact the area chambers of commerce and local snowmobile clubs in the area you plan to ride.
