High Carbon, High Holiday

Jay Weber at 1130 WISN. came up with the catchy phrase about earth hour tonight

between 7:30 and 8:30 p m central time tonight.

Hope I got it right, "High Carbon High Holiday".

What can you do?

Turn on every Light.

Crank up the radio and T V .

Let the cars and trucks idle for an hour.

Start a campfire.

Here is the link something Charlie Sykes have on his blog from  celebrate Human Achievement Hour.

"The Competitive Enterprise Institute plans to recognize “Human Achievement Hour” between 8:30pm and 9:30pm on March 28, 2009 to coincide with Earth Hour, a period of time during which governments, individuals, and corporations have agreed to dim or shut off lights in an effort to draw attention to climate change.Anyone not foregoing the use of electricity in that hour is, by default, celebrating the achievements of human beings.

We salute the people who keep the lights on and produce the energy that helps make human achievement possible. ..

Steve Kagen, North To Alaska

From the Appleton Post Crescent about companies going green (hog wash anyway). It looks like Steve Kagen knows more about Alaska then he knows about Wisconsin. On second thought, what does permafrost in Alaska have to do with green companies in Wisconsin?
"Rep. Steve Kagen, D-Appleton, said there is greater awareness today to protect the environment.

"Our climate is changing," he said.

Kagen shared a story about how permafrost in Alaska has been melting in recent years, making the ground too soft, which has led some communities there to relocate to more stable land.

"We need to devote more resources to developing smart electrical grids and buildings," he said. "We need buildings and systems that use less resources to make power and can put power back into the grid."" Boldt Co. welcomed into Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources' Green Tier program | Postcrescent.com | Appleton Post-Crescent

The people in Niagara and the North woods must have permafrost in the ground, and it's almost April? Maybe Steve Kagen wants them to relocate to Crivits, Wabeno or Rhinelander.

Wow, that's our 8th District Congressman.

P. S . Steve Kagens staff must be on vacation or they forgot to tell Kagen what to say when he's out in public. "Permafrost in Alaska!" They need to keep him under control before he makes a gaff that will be hard to explain! Oh, I forgot to ask, how were the pork rinds at the Green Bay ofice?

2.2 Jobs Lost For Every New Green Job

Of course, the mainstream media won't report this news...
A new study revealed that 2.2 jobs are lost for every new green job.
Barcepundit reported:

If Spain's experience is any guide, there are serious job losses from green stimulus measures like the ones contemplated in Obama's plans. According to a study from King Juan Carlos University in Madrid, For every new job sustained by subsidized renewable energy at least 2.2 are lost in other industries.

WDNR Budget More Enforcement, Less Service

The face of the WDNR, Gov Diamond Jim Doyle.

DNR budget long on enforcement, short on services New fees, warden overtime, fleet costs all soar
Richard Moore
Investigative Reporter

While the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is taking just a small hit in Gov. Jim Doyle's proposed 2009-11 state budget, despite a looming $5.7 billion state deficit, the cuts that do exist, along with shifts in programming priorities, reflect an administration and agency that desire to focus less on customer service and more on law enforcement and environmental regulation.

The budget proposes $584.4 million for the agency in 2009-10 and $579.2 million for 2010-11 - a reduction of only $2.2 million from the 2007-09 biennial budget."

Hey, Let Them Live With Us, Join Us At Marquette and UWM

From Breitbart.com.

I was telling son #2 and his (our, she is like a daughter to us) special gal about the following story.
"President Barack Obama's intelligence chief confirmed Thursday that some Guantanamo inmates may be released on US soil and receive assistance to return to society.

"If we are to release them in the United States, we need some sort of assistance for them to start a new life," said National Intelligence Director Dennis Blair at his first press conference. "
Terror inmates may be released in US: intel chief

Her first reaction was, anyone can write an article like that, she didn't believe the story. She has been reading the Onion toooooooooooo much. How can you believe the story? O K, I read verbatim what Dennis Blair said and she still thought I was making it up! I then asked her if they should move the gitmo prisoners to UW Milwaukkee. Yea UWM could be a half way house for Gitmo prisoners. Would you want that? She said she didn't have an opinion! I asked again and she still didn't want to answer.

Then Son # 2 said how do you know the ones they will release are bad? "Holy cow, did you forget 9 11?" My son who is attending Marquette next year said, go ahead let them move into to my dorm room! "Who cares, let em move in with me!" He thought O will release only good people.

I then asked why were they there to begin with? Still no response.

My son is very smart when it comes to history but doesn't comprehend how this country was born and how people gave their lives to give him the freedom he has today.

It it sad that young people do not understand the freedom they were given today. How many Americans lost their lives for these youngsters?

When these two have a family, will they stand up and protect their own children or will they throw their lives away? It must be a generational thing?

God help my grandchildren. I hope their parents get their head out of their ass's and wake up!

I will do everything I can do to protect my grandchildren. If their parents are asleep at the wheel, heaven will only help them. My children have yet to have any real responsibility right now but hope they learn with time.

God help us all!

UW Tuition Increase

From JSOnline.
"UW tuition might rise for 4 years
Increase would fund financial aid, more faculty

By Erica Perez of the Journal Sentinel

Posted: Mar. 25, 2009

Madison - University of Wisconsin-Madison Chancellor Biddy Martin on Wednesday proposed increasing undergraduate tuition at the state's public flagship school by $250 to $750 per year for four years to pay for increases in financial aid for needy students and to add faculty and student services in high-demand areas." UW tuition might rise for 4 years - JSOnline

In the future who will afford education? And read this from this student.
"A lot of times, you don't see where all the money is going," she said. "At first, I was not happy. . . . You think, $500, that's not that big of a deal. But with the economy, it's hard to find that extra money."

But as a double major in communications and Spanish, White knows how helpful it would be to get more faculty members in the Spanish department.

Sure, sure they will add faculty and the poor girl will still be on a waiting list.

John "Paul Ryan" Kerry

From Politico.
I voted for it before I voted against it! Huh!
"Ryan blames confusion about the constitutionality of the plan on Democrats for rushing the bill through the House.

"You rush this thing to the floor. Nobody had time to review it," Ryan said on the C-SPAN program, adding that lawmakers "got conflicting advice on it" before the vote.
" GOP lawmaker flips on AIG bonus tax - Patrick O'Connor - POLITICO.com

Confusion, constitutionality, conflicting advice? God help us. The dems rushed it through? How long has he been in Washington? He want's to be a leader? The dems threw the line out and Ryan and the other 84 swallowed it hook line and sinker. We want leaders not followers!

A conservative is a conservative is a CONSERVATIVE. No polls, no wiggle room, no excuses, no doubt.

We have enough problems with Steve Kagen up here in the 8th. Now a so called conservative republican has to wet his finger and stick it in the wind? The future of the party? For God sake, what was he thinking?

We have two Tea Parties coming up in Wisconsin on April 15th, the people are fighting tyranny and we have to worry about those that we should trust to lead us? People in John Ryan's district, will this happen again? Jim Sensenbrenner sure knew how to vote!

We need a Conservative Party to weed out RINO's! First Ryan's vote last fall and then a vote against tax payers (AIG) vote, what's next? And how many on the so called right will tow the line for John "Paul Ryan" Kerry?

The battle for this country continues. It will not be easy but we will take it back.

Berry Lake, Oconto County Rises?

From the Appleton Post Crescent.

Does this mean Berry Lake water levels will go up?
"Water level rising on western Great Lakes
Posted 3/25/2009 5:35 AM ET E-mail | Save | Print
GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — The water level of Lake Michigan is on the rise.

The Army Corps of Engineers reports the level of Lake Michigan and Lake Huron is 13 inches higher than it was a year ago.

Tom Johnson of the Corps says two snowy winters have helped replenish the lakes after the level dropped two years ago to within three inches of the record low set in 1964.

He tells WBAY-TV in Green Bay the level now is only about eight inches below the long-term average, and it should rise three to four inches this spring.

Lake Superior is also showing a rise in the water level, up five inches from a year ago." Postcrescent - Water level rising on western Great Lakes

I've heard them all. Berry Lake down because Lake Michigan low. Berry Lake down because people are watering their lawns too much. Hole in Berry Lake is draining lake. Back in 1985 the water levels were at a high point. Back in the 1930's Berry Lake was at it's lowest levels ever. Global warming, global cooling, it's all hog wash.

End of conspiracy theories. Busy bodies need to find something else to do!

Is Your Representative Opposing Escalation in Afghanistan?

Is your representative speaking out against escalation of the Afghanistan war?

Last week, some members of Congress sent President Obama a letter that urged him to "reconsider" his order deploying 17,000 additional U.S. troops to Afghanistan.

Everyone in the House of Representatives had ample opportunity to sign onto the letter. Beginning in late February, it circulated on Capitol Hill for more than two weeks. The letter was the most organized congressional move so far to challenge escalation of the war in Afghanistan.

But the list of signers was awfully short.

* California: Bob Filner, Michael Honda
* Hawaii: Neil Abercrombie
* Kentucky: Ed Whitfield
* Maryland: Roscoe Bartlett
* Massachusetts: Jim McGovern
* Michigan: John Conyers
* North Carolina: Howard Coble, Walter Jones
* Ohio: Marcy Kaptur, Dennis Kucinich

Tiger Woods, One GREAT American

Tip from a friend of mine by e mail.
From the PGATour.com.

I missed this or the MSM kept a good lid on this speech for the Obama inauguration.
Short and to the point. Did anyone else pick this up back in January?

What a GREAT American.
"Jan. 19, 2009
By Tiger Woods

Editor's note: Below is the speech Tiger Woods gave on Sunday, Jan. 18, at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C. during the festivities for the presidential inauguration. It was originally printed on www.tigerwoods.com.

I grew up in a military family -- and my role models in life were my Mom and Dad, Lt. Colonel Earl Woods.

My dad was a Special Forces operator and many nights friends would visit our home. They represented every branch of service, and every rank. In my Dad, and in those guests, I saw first hand the dedication and commitment of those who serve. They come from every walk of life. From every part of our country. Time and again, across generations, they have defended our safety in the dark of night and far from home.

Each day -- and particularly on this historic day -- we honor the men and women in uniform who serve our country and protect our freedom. They travel to the dangerous corners of the world, and we must remember that for every person who is in uniform, there are families who wait for them to come home safely.

I am honored that the military is such an important part, not just of my personal life, but of my professional life as well. The golf tournament we do each year here in Washington is a testament to those unsung heroes. I am the son of a man who dedicated his life to his country, family and the military, and I am a better person for it.

In the summer of 1864, Abraham Lincoln, the man whose memorial we stand, spoke to the 164th Ohio Regiment and said:

"I am greatly obliged to you, and to all who have come forward at the call of their country."

Just as they have stood tall for our country -- we must always stand by and support the men and women in uniform and their families.

Thank you, and it is now my pleasure to introduce the U.S. Naval Glee Club." PGATOUR.COM - Woods' speech at Obama inauguration festivities

Horses Dumped In Oconto County,

From TMJ4
"Dead Horses Left in Forest

TOWN OF ABRAMS, Wis. (AP) -- Oconto County sheriff's investigators want to know who dumped two dead horses in the Machickanee Forest.

Outback Riders member Patty Wisneski says judging by how emaciated the horses were and the condition of their hooves, it's clear the horses were mistreated.

Outback Riders helps maintain the trails where the Sorrel and Painted Horse were found.

Sheriff's deputies aren't sure whether the male and female horses were starved or mistreated some other way. Authorities say they were likely left in the forest sometime last week.

The Associated Press • and The Reporter • March 23, 2009

MCLEAN, Va. — Newspaper publisher Gannett is forcing most of its workers to take another week of unpaid leave before July.

The furloughs spelled out Monday in a company memo are being imposed to avoid laying off more employees as Gannett tries to offset a steep drop in advertising revenue. The Reporter is one of 10 daily newspapers in Wisconsin owned by Gannett.

This marks the second time this year that most of Gannett’s 41,500 workers have had to give up a week’s pay. Most employees, including CEO Craig Dubow, were furloughed for at least five days during the first three months this year.

This time around, the owner of the USA Today and more than 80 other daily newspapers is requiring its higher-paid workers to relinquish up to two weeks pay during the April-June period." The Reporter, Gannett impose another round of furloughs | fdlreporter.com | Fond du Lac Reporter

Good For Marinette Marine

From JSOnline
"Marinette Marine awarded Navy combat ship contract
By Rick Barrett of the Journal Sentinel

Mar. 23, 2009 4:58 p.m. | Marinette Marine has been awarded a U.S. Navy contract to build another combat ship similar to the USS Freedom launched last fall.

The award, for an unspecified amount of money, is expected to prevent 200 previously announced layoffs at the Marinette shipyard, and another 100 layoffs which were being considered.

The 170 employees laid off in the fall will not be recalled as a result of the contract, but it does open the door to their recall once additional commercial contracts are received by Marinette Marine, the company said in a news release.

Congress approved $1.02 billion for the Navy to purchase two Littoral Combat Ships for Fiscal Year 2009. "

Cancel Your Credit Card Before You Die........

An email from a Friend.
The credit card company in question could be in the Citi somewhere.

Now some people are really stupid!!!!

Be sure and cancel your credit cards before you die

This is so priceless, and so, so easy to see happening, customer service being what it is today.

A lady died this past January, and Citibank billed her for February and March for their annual service charges on her credit card, and added late fees and interest on the monthly charge. The balance had been $0.00 when she died, but now somewhere around $60.00. A family member placed a call to Citibank.

Here is the exchange :

Family Member: 'I am calling to tell you she died back in January.'

bank: 'The account was never closed and the late fees and charges still apply.'

Family Member: 'Maybe, you should turn it over to collections.'

bank: 'Since it is two months past due, it already has been.'

Family Member: So, what will they do when they find out she is dead?'

bank: 'Either report her account to frauds division or report her to the credit bureau, maybe both!'

Family Member: 'Do you think God will be mad at her?'

bank: 'Excuse me?'

Family Member: 'Did you just get what I was telling you - the part about her being dead?'

bank: 'Sir, you'll have to speak to my supervisor.'

Supervisor gets on the phone:

Family Member: 'I'm calling to tell you, she died back in January with a $0 balance.'

bank: 'The account was never closed and late fees and charges still apply.'

Family Member: 'You mean you want to collect from her estate?'

bank: (Stammer) 'Are you her lawyer?'

Family Member: 'No, I'm her great nephew.' (Lawyer info was given)

bank: 'Could you fax us a certificate of death?'

Family Member: 'Sure..' (Fax number was given )

After they get the fax :

bank: 'Our system just isn't setup for death. I don't know what more I can do to help.'

Family Member: 'Well, if you figure it out, great! If not, you could just keep billing her. She won't care.'

bank: 'Well, the late fees and charges will still apply.'

(What is wrong with these people?!?)

Family Member: 'Would you like her new billing address?'

bank: 'That might help...'

Family Member: ' Odessa Memorial Cemetery , Highway 129, Plot Number 69.'

bank: 'Sir, that's a cemetery!'

Family Member: 'And what do you do with dead people on your planet???'

(Priceless!!)
