2010 Wisconsin Deer Harvest, Big Whoop

From JSOnline and Paul Smith

Deer-hunting statistics are positive

Dec. 1, 2010 |(1) Comments

The 2010 Wisconsin nine-day gun deer season has assumed its place in history, the most recent addition in a burgeoning book of regulated hunts dating to 1851.

Like its predecessors, deer hunt 2010 defies simple description.

Where did you hunt? What method did you use? How long were you in the field? What did you see? Why do you hunt?

There are more than 621,000 answers to each of those questions.

But if past seasons are used as a guide, 2010 stacks up pretty well.

Deer harvest increases: According to preliminary registration numbers released Tuesday, hunters killed 218,144 deer during the nine-day hunt, an 11% increase from 2009.

The total included 102,006 bucks, up 17% from 2009, and 116,138 antlerless deer, up 6%.

Is he kidding? 2010 positve?

Why will no one bring up 2007 or 2008 numbers? You know, since I was unable to take a shot or even see a deer this past 9 day gun hunt, I am getting sick of reading how much of a positive the 2010 season was.

The following info is from the WDNR. Let's look at their own numbers.

Wis 9 Day Deer Harvest 2009 201,994

Wis 9 Day Deer Harvest 2008 285,243

Wis 9 Day Deer Harvest 2007 354,384

So 2010 was great compared to 2009 but compare it to 2008, 67,099 less deer were taken.

So 2010 was great compared to 2009 but compare it to 2007, 136,240 less deer were taken.

Big whoop for the 2010 deer harvest.

Can we get serious about deer management in Wisconsin?

Scott Walker has a lot of work ahead and the WDNR should be on his "To Do List"!

If you go back even further, you'll see harvests of over 450,000 deer.

I tell you, all the bambis are in SE Wisconsin. No predators, illegal to use firearms (most places,) and food aplenty.

Dad,

I was going to go further but I was getting too ticked off the farther back I went.

Have a GREAT day

No more than two deer per person. One doe and one buck if you take two. That includes bow, firearm and black powder.

Too many deer pigs out there.
