Wausau Mayor Jim Tipple has suspended all negotiations with city unions as he waits for the budget dust to settle in Madison, leaving nearly 250 workers waiting for new contracts."

Uncertainty over Gov. Scott Walker's budget repair bill that would drastically alter collective bargaining rights for public employees prompted Tipple to suspend ratification of contracts with two of the city's five unions, American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees Locals 1287 and 1287CH.

Tipple also halted negotiations with the police, fire and transit unions, even though Walker's bill currently exempts police and fire unions from changes. In a letter to the city's five union presidents, Tipple said the city won't move forward with contracts until the state budget is finalized.
