Wolf Caught Then Released In Florence

From the Florence Mining News via Inteltrends Wisconsin

Wolf 783 is alive and well in Florence County after wildlife officials earlier this month freed him from a trap, applied first aid, fitted him with a radio collar and sent him on his merry way.

The 87-pound male wolf, a federally protected animal, was accidentally captured in a coyote foot trap on Nov. 1, and the trapper called the Department of Natural Resources to report the matter, DNR wildlife biologist Jeremy Holtz said. The trapping took place in the Lake Edith area of the Town of Florence. DNR Warden Kelly Crotty, Dave Ruid from USDA Wildlife Services, Holtz and the trapper set out the next day and found the wolf still in the trap.
