A new area code covering Wisconsin residents who currently have the 920-area code has been delayed for two years.
The Public Service Commission announced Thursday that the start of the 274 area code was being pushed back from 2012 to 2014.
The commission says the delay was allowable because effective number conservation measures and the current economic conditions have extended the life of the current 920 code.
PSC Chairman Eric Callisto says the delay ensures that callers in that area aren't subject to the changes any earlier than needed.
Wonder what "current economic conditions" means?
