PITTSFIELD — A Pittsfield referendum to increase the tax levy beyond the state-imposed cap for ongoing road construction failed Tuesday with about 75 percent of the voters opposing it.

"I take it as a sign from the people that they want us to hold our budget tight," said town Chairman Keith Deneys. "Probably for the next two years this town will not be doing major road repairs rather than filling potholes."

The special referendum asked voters to decide whether the town should be allowed to exceed the 3 percent state limit and increase the levy for the next fiscal year, 2010 and on an ongoing basis by a total of 38 percent, or about $200,000, to pay for road repairs and construction.

Voter turnout for the referendum was 217, with 55 people voting yes and 162 voting no." Pittsfield roads referendum fails | greenbaypressgazette.com | Green Bay Press-Gazette

You can't spend what you don't have. Seems something is different in 2009. What will happen in the 2010 election. The tea party continues.

Again, if you see someone from Pittsfield, thank them and tell them they did the right thing in voting this down.
