As of yet, you may not have heard much about Rep. Steve Kagen, D-Wis. But you soon will.

Oh boy, we have not heard of Steve Kagen? You got to be kidding!

The freshman congressman has only been in office since 2006, yet through strong acts of leadership he is already confirming that he embodies our state’s progressive tradition.

Oh boy , only since 2006, excuse me isn't it 2008?
Oh boy Harry, can you name me his strong acts of leadership?

Learning about his career, as well as having the opportunity
to meet and interview him, has made me even more confident of Wisconsin’s ability to lead the burgeoning progressive movement and even more proud of Wisconsin values.

Mr. Kagen’s work on health care reform is the most
indicative sign of his potential to be a historic progressive leader.

Oh boy, a historic progressive leader? Am I smoking something, OHHHHHHH BOOOYYYYYYYYYY! I quit tobbaco! We in northeastern Wisconsin must of missed something since 2006.

It would be a travesty for both Wisconsin and the rest of the
nation if we were to lose a progressive champion with such promising potential to impact the health care debate. It is essential for Mr. Kagen to weather such rank propaganda and be re-elected this fall. With any luck, he will be successful in continuing his work in the vein of Wisconsin’s progressive legacy by playing an integral role in achieving universal health care.

Sorry, Mr. Kagen hasn't done anything to be any kind of champion. Can we all just get along and agree Mr. Kagen is Mr. Kagen because of the hard work of his staff and not Mr. Kagen himself. Also propaganda can be told to you even when some one sits across from you in an interview.

Stop, I can't take it! You can read the rest yourself. This young man is working up to land a job in Washington as a speech writer or something more! Harry, cut the colorful metaphors, sorry I mean you should rephrase some on your words . Mr. Kagen is not who you think he is. Move to the 8th district and you will find out the hard way.

New Page Paper Mill Update

Niagara's NewPage mill gets reprieve

WASHINGTON — The NewPage Corp. mill in
Niagara, slated to close in April, will stay open until the fall thanks to “an unusually high demand” for some types for coated paper.

Mark A. Suwyn, NewPage board chairman and
chief executive, made the announcement Monday. The 319 plant workers — 179 from Michigan and 140 from Wisconsin — had been told the mill would close by the end of April.

Great News for the people of Wisconsin and Michigan. At least for now it is good news. Thank you to all the people working on this project. Interesting thoughts about the end of the article.

Since then, Michigan Rep. Bart Stupak, who has constituents
working at the mill, and Wisconsin Rep. Steve Kagen, whose district includes the Niagara mill, have been trying to find ways to keep the mill open.

Stupak welcomed the latest news about the mill, saying
"NewPage’s decision gives us more time. Over the next six months ... local, state and federal officials will continue working with NewPage to find a buyer who will keep the mill in use.”

He praised NewPage for its efforts to find a buyer who would
keep the mill operating.

O K , I will be critical. It names Stupak and Kagen as working to find a buyer for the mill. Mr. Stupak from Michigan makes the only good news comment about the plant. Where is Wisconsin's 8th district congressman for a comment?

By Steve Kagens track record he likes to be in front of the camera, or stand on any corner for a vote. To congressman Kagens hard working staff and supporters, I'm just saying if he had anything to do with this, the newspaper should of called him for a comment. I certainly thank Mr Stupak from Michigan for following through on helping the people from that area.

Again, someone else doing the work (Mr. Stupak ) and Wisconsin's 8th District Congressman takes a bow. Could it be other people including his own staff doing great work and Mr. Kagen takes the credit.

Mayor Dave Osborne. I thought I would give the good mayor my view on the above article.

Dave, you seem to be of good character. From your article you seem to be very tight with the tax payers money. I do not live in your town so I can only assume the people of Oconto Falls are doing well with lower taxes. Hope I am correct in that statement.

I do want to make one comment pertaining to one part of your article. You are just too nice when it comes to painting the state of Wisconsin's budget problems.

" Politicians over estimated revenues and under estimated
expenses". "This is truly an amazing blunder on the part of the state but guess who will pay !"

Come on Dave, the state know's what they are doing! They did not under estimate expences! As far as revenues, Jim Doyle has raided the transportation fund how many times? It was not a blunder, they are screwing the people of Oconto Falls and the people of Wisconsin! We need to get the spenders out of office! Again, please, please try not to be so politically correct in your views. You just came accross as being too nice. If you really mean what you say, then lay the blame where it is. Call it the way you see it. Your voters will know you and vote for you if you keep trying to hold the line on taxes.

Paterson's stories of hookers and extra affairs, who planned Congressman's Kagen's week? It sure tells all! To you on the left, remember, I didn't write this!

Steve Kagen was in Shawano this week for Congress on the Corner. Kagen was asked about the economy and he responded this government caused this recession, he said the U.S. Economy is in tatters and we are headed south because the price for gallon of gas is going up and thats because the dollar is going down in value. Kagen said he is fighting the good fight but is not making much ground with this president, he said he will continue to fight but with an Oil President and an Oil Vice President you are not going to make much headway. Gas as we speak is about 3.29 in most areas but the cost of diesel has skyrocket to over 4 dollars a gallon. Kagen said he spoke with the independent truckers earlier this week and he said they are about ready to shut down their trucks, if that happens it would mean a disaster to the industry and this country.

First, Congressman Kagen, when did this recession start? Why
are you spreading lies! There may be a recession in the future but let's have one before you call it one. Do people really know what recession means?

Words, Just Words

I keep hearing Obama's double speak. One day his words means something, the next day, they don't! Then another day someones elses words might mean something and the next day those words might mean something else. Depends if any words are for or against Mr Obama. What I just said makes no sense but neither do a lot of politicians!

This is not a left only problem. Why in God's name do we have RINO's. They only say what they want us to hear. They make promises that they break. They cozy up with the left just to be liked. Watching two movies this week has brought out some extra passion. National Treasure and HBO's John Adams.

John Adams

Sitting in Newberry Mi. Tuesday night I got to watch the second episode of John Adams. I don't have HBO so I will have to wait for the DVD's to come out. Here's a little write up.

First let me say this is a show all should see. Second when I see Paul Giamatti, I remember him with his blue face in Big Fat Liar. Oh well, he is doing one great job in this movie. Third, isn't it grand to see the (Clinton hacks) Bloodworth- Thomason struggle to make a good movie.

I feel bad, NOT!

Indianapolis - The saying goes that defense wins championships. What they don't tell you is that sometimes it's not pretty.

Case in point was Friday afternoon.
The Wisconsin Badgers dismantled Michigan, 51-34, in the quarterfinals of the Big Ten tournament, setting tournament records for fewest points allowed and opponent's field-goal percentage. The Wolverines' 20% shooting (10 for 50) was also a season low for a UW opponent, as were their 10 field goals.

People will wonder why some day we are moving to upper Michigan. Looks like it may be sooner than later.

in Michigan. We are 71and 70 and I retired 12 years ago. We built a home and moved to MIv in 1998. My wife and I have a combined income for 2007 of $95,008.
Broken down as follows:

Interest & Dividens: $7,160
Social Security: $24,792
US Govt retirement: $ 43,308

( I retired from the US Navy and my wife had a short career with DOD Schools in Germany)
Company Retirement: $ 3,549
MRD from IRAs: $ 16,199

We have a Michigan State tax bill of $11.

Michigan is a good State to retire in, but I might not
want to live here and be looking for a job!

By the way we live on the shores of Green Bay, looking across the bay at Door County. Our Property tax on a $400,000+ home is a tad over $2,400 a year.

I can't believe people accept this tax HELL HOLE in Wisconsin. I ask the following questions.

How did Diamond Jim Doyle get elected?
How did Steve Kagen get elected?
How did Dave Obey get elected?
How did Tom Barret get elected?
How did Tammy Baldwin get elected.
How did ................ (fill in the blank) your own elected official that votes for raising taxes.

I am not letting any RINO's off the hook. I question my areas own Gary Tauchen, is he for market forces setting prices or does he want mandates on ethanol? To be fair to Mr. Tauchen for now I will look at how he will vote on any future tax issues.

You wonder why I am hesitent on John McCain. If he sleeps with the left than he is the left.

Right now I know of only one politition that accepts no campaign money, votes for what is right, cannot be bought off. He is someone we need more of. The people of Bellevue Wis. are lucky to have such a true conservitive. I wish he was in my area.

If this country goes to HELL. It won't be my fault , I 'm trying to do what I can! I can tell you this,

This is just too funny to take. Lefty white women, oops , better not go there! Someone in November is not going to be happy. No matter what happens you on the left will be blaming the right, no matter what. Sore losers!

Can We Debate

Can we have a debate of ideas? My thought is that most good character people on the left are brain washed that we are in global warming. Morning people — including farmers, city folks with early jobs, parents of school-age children — all oppose it. But lobbyists for the night crowd have cowed Congress.

Editorial: Doyle's plan robs Peter to pay Paul
It's very interesting that Gov. Jim Doyle's "budget repair plan" transfers $243 million from the state's transportation fund, which is the pile of money replenished by the gasoline tax.

You might recall that's the fund that didn't have enough cash to take care of all our road needs, and so Doyle last year proposed an "assessment" on big
oil company revenues to cover the difference.
Now, the state is headed toward a budget deficit that could amount to $650 million by mid-2009. And the fund that needed a new tax to prop it up is suddenly so flush that the governor says it can be raided to help fix the deficit.

As many suspected, it's now clear the oil revenues tax was not about building roads and bridges;it was about creating another revenue stream to pay for everything else the state wants to do.
With a straight face, Doyle claims his budget repair bill doesn't require a tax increase, and then he hauls
out a 0.7 percent "assessment" on hospital revenues. (Isn't going from zero to 0.7 percent an "increase"? Just asking.) The new, um, assessment will bring in $700 million in federal revenue over the biennium, the governor says.

Quick quiz: Where will the federal government get the $700 million? If you answered, "the people of Wisconsin and 49 other states, or their children and grandchildren through borrowing," go to the head of the class.

The governor knows that some people, like us, will say the way to bring the budget under control is to cut spending, and so he points out that he has ordered $330.4 million in spending cuts at state agencies. But wait — "this includes $200 million in cuts that state agencies were required to make under the 2007-09 biennial budget signed in October."

The $130.4 million in new spending cuts represents roughly one quarter of the $527 million package the governor introduced Monday. Three parts taxes or robbing Peter to pay Paul, one part spending cuts.

Oh, and he'd like the Legislature to start working on it before they leave town Thursday, on top of all the other unfinished business, some of which we listed Tuesday — the Great Lakes Compact, endangered online public schools, smoke-free workplaces, etc.

Maybe people have asked the state government to do more than it, or we, can afford. Maybe the time has come either to jack up our already-confiscatory taxes to pay for all the state services we want. Maybe it's time to take a serious look at which state services can be reduced or eliminated.
But Doyle isn't saying that. Instead he issues a news release that says, "The plan provides for sufficient funding of essential state and local services — education, health care and creating jobs — without raising taxes ..."

Novelist Robert A. Heinlein famously stated the principle of TANSTAAFL:
"There ain't no such thing as a free lunch." By saying his budget repair bill does not raise taxes, Doyle demonstrates either that he doesn't understand TANSTAAFL or he hopes you don't.

Will the P G hold Diamond Jim's feet to the fire, highly unlikely.

Despite snow, frigid weather, heating costs are about normal WPS spokesman says winter has been abnormally normal

Heat this winter will cost about as much as expected. "Based on normal temperatures, the price is pretty close to what we estimated when winter began," said Kerry Spees, spokesman for Wisconsin Public Service Corp.

Spees said the typical customer using 900 therms of natural gas annually will pay $742. That compares with about $740 last year and $830 for the 2005-2006 heating season, when natural gas prices were significantly higher.

I thought the sky is falling! I thought everyone spent all their money on heating costs. I thought this was the highest heating costs ever! What happened in 2005 - 2006?

The MSM keeps telling the doom and gloom stories and people just suck it in! When will people wake up and not believe everything they hear!

Removal requirement means end of winter in sight

Permanent ice shelters must be removed from Lake Winnebago and other inland waters by Sunday night, according to state Department of Natural Resources rules.

Previously, anglers fishing on waters south of State 64 had until March 5 to remove permanent shelters.

Under the new rules, anglers have until the first Sunday after March 1 to remove the shelters.

Failure to remove a shanty or ice fishing shelter by the deadline could result in a forfeiture of $248.60.

Quite a few permanent shelters remain on Lake Winnebago and getting them of the ice could pose a problem, said Dale Frank, president of the Paynes Point Hook & Spear Fishing Club in Neenah.

"Some shacks are quite a ways out. I don't know how the owners are going to get them off. The snow is so bad and there is slush under the snow," Frank said.

Frank said the lake ice has numerous fractures.

"We'll do our level best to help get the remaining shelters off the ice, but there are places on the lake we just can't go anymore," Frank said.

After the date for removing ice fishing shelters from a frozen lake of river, anglers still can use portable shelters, but must remove them when they are not occupied or actively being used.

If the shelter breaks through the ice, it must be recovered under DNR rules. That process could add to the forfeiture costs.

The DNR said it would attempt to contact owners of shanties left on lakes and rivers after Sunday to get them off the ice. Those who own shanties are required to have their name and address on it.

In December, as the state was about
to enact a $1 per pack increase in the cigarette tax, The Associated Press wanted to find out about efforts by the state to collect taxes on Internet cigarette sales, but it was rebuffed by the Department of Revenue.

So it's incredulous to hear state officials say Wisconsinites don't have a right to know how vigorously, or not, laws are being enforced. "Spectacularly lame," indeed.

"Spectacularly lame" was how Bill Lueders, president of the Wisconsin Freedom of Information Council, characterized the logic being offered by these state officials. "Just because the Department of Revenue is embarrassed that it's doing so little is not reason to hide that fact from the public."

What will happen if the state passes a no smoking law (except casino's). Will they look the other way for a couple years while people smoke in the bar? Where's the Tavern League? If you pass a law than enforce the law!
