Jobless rates remain grim in west U.P.
ONTONAGON -- Unemployment rates in the six western Upper Peninsula counties continued to be bad news in November, although Gogebic and Ontonagon counties did not see increases in joblessness.
Gogebic County was the only one of the six to see a decrease in unemployment, while unemployment in Ontonagon and Houghton counties remained unchanged.
The Gogebic County rate, according to the Michigan Department of Energy, Labor and Economic Growth, stood at 12.9 percent, down from the 13.2 percent one month ago. Unemployment fell by 50, but the labor force was down by 125 and total employment down by 50. Total unemployment was down by 50."
