Wisconsin HWY Q Wolf / Horse Attack

Possible Wolf?

Has anyone seen or heard of a horse killed around the Waukesha / Washington County line HWY Q, where a horse might of been killed by a possible wolf in southeastern Wisconsin?

Any leads or information, let me know. Heard a rumor about this yesterday from someone who lives in the area.

Was it a wolf? Was it a coyote?

What is the WDNR saying about it?

That's all I know for now.

I heard the story about this on Monday at our general meeting for our rod and gun club. One of the members from the turkey foundation in New Berlin was telling me the story. He claims that two horses were attacked by an unknown pack of animals. The humane society and DNR were present for an investigation. One horse had major damage to it's front leg. Chewed all the way down to the bone. One other horse was also attacked with not as serious wounds. If what he explained to me was true I can not believe that this was done by any pack of coyotes. According to him the humane society and DNR was pointing towards wolves. When local media confronted the DNR and humane society all of the stories changed. The only reason I found this posting was by searching to see if I could find any truth to this story. I would not be to schocked if this was true, I know for a fact that I seen a pack of wolves in the Jefferson area last deer season.

GB, thanks for the information.

Seems we need someone to get to the bottom of this. I did send an e mail to the Menominee Patch but have heard nothing from them as of yet.

Have a GREAT week.

Last February I noticed what I thought was a wolf in our farm field which is right out my back door. When I relayed the story to my husband and three other friends that were over for dinner that night, all the men said that it probably was a coyote. I know that a coyote gets no bigger than 50 lbs. This animal was at least 90 lbs ( I had a lab that was 95 lbs). Just as we were talking about this occurance 3 wolves passed by my back porch. All three men said that they HAD to be wolves because of their size (it was evening, but there was snow covered ground and a full moon). This was in Hubertus WI

Anon, thanks for your comment. A local internet newspaper was trying to get more information on the HWY Q story. Looks like it went no where. From what I heard the WDNR denied the story on HWY Q.

Seems like a cover up to me.

Take care in Hubertus.
