Madison - Republican lieutenant governor candidate Rebecca Kleefisch was diagnosed and treated last month for a tumor in her colon, her campaign disclosed late Wednesday.
Kleefisch was diagnosed and treated for the cancerous tumor in late August, spokeswoman Jill Bader said in a statement Wednesday. That intervention – unknown to the public until now - happened shortly before the Sept. 14 primary election in which Kleefisch convincingly beat a field of Republicans that included state Rep. Brett Davis (R-Oregon).
The news was reported Wednesday evening by WISN-TV, where both Kleefisch and her husband, Rep. Joel Kleefisch (R-Oconomowoc), formerly worked. Bader said in the statement that the couple would join GOP gubernatorial candidate Scott Walker for a media conference Thursday afternoon at their campaign headquarters to discuss the news.
What courage Rebecca kleefisch has. Our Prayers go out to her to keep up her fight with cancer and as Lt Gov for Wisconsin. What a fighter for the people of Wisconsin.
The Walker Kleefisch campaign also released a press release last night.
“Below is the public schedule for Lt. Governor Candidate Rebecca Kleefisch and her husband, State Representative Joel Kleefisch.
Tonight it was reported that, in late August, Rebecca was diagnosed and successfully treated for a cancerous tumor in her colon. Rebecca and Joel shared their story this evening with WISN news, where they both used to work.
They will be available for interviews in Milwaukee tomorrow, before Rebecca leaves for her statewide “Small Business Jobs Tour” on Friday and Saturday. Scott and Tonette Walker will join the Kleefisch family to kick off Rebecca’s tour tomorrow at our campaign HQ in Wauwatosa from 3:00-3:30. The event is open to the public and Scott and Rebecca will be available for interviews afterwards.
Rebecca and Joel - and their two daughters Ella and Violet – continue to thank the voters of Wisconsin for their support and prayers throughout the campaign. They are excited to share the news of Rebecca’s full recovery, after her startling discovery late last month.”
