Congressman Steve Kagen's Last Mile

STIMULUS and TAX PAYERS WASTE in the Wisconsin 8th district.

With Congressman Steve Kagen in full campaign mode I thought I would ask, what did his vote for stimulus last year do for the people of Wisconsin?

How many jobs were created? What did it do for the people of Wisconsin? Was stimulus money spent wisely? Here's one I call "Kagen's Last Mile".

If you travel north on HWY 141 some 40 miles from Green Bay you will find a nice little
Village of Pound Wisconsin. Population in the 2000 census was 355 people.

Let's first start with a letter from Frank J. Busalacchi, Wisconsin Secretary of Transportation to Ray LaHood U S Secretary of transportation dated September14, 2009. I will highlight what I thought was important.

On behalf of Governor Jim Doyle, I am pleased to provide you with Wisconsin's
certification of the attached highway infrastructure projects and Ferry Boat
Discretionary program grant under section 1511 of the American Recoveryand
ReinvestmentAct. Specifically, pursuant to Title XV, Subtitle A, section 1511 of
the American Recoveryand ReinvestmentAct (Public Law 111-5 (February 17,
2009» ("ARRA"), I hereby certify that the attached infrastructure investments
funded with amounts appropriated by ARRA under the heading Highway
Infrastructure Investmentto the Federal HighwayAdministration have received
the full review and vetting required by law and that I accept responsibility that
such investments are appropriate uses of taxpayer dollars.

Appropriate use of tax dollars? Here's the project.

9246-05-71
Pound, Village of Walk-Way Connection SVL 1285ft to exist, 4000ft from
Enhancement (W-WCE) N of exist

Estimated cost$723,988
Estimated ARRA funding $723,988

Say what? $723,988 for a side walk? Did the project ever happen? Was this one of Steve Kagen's stimulus projects he voted for? Well it's finished

Take a look. I took a drive through Pound and headed north on 21st Rd towards HWY 64.

No houses, no business, no nothing but farm fields to the east and west.

If you look to the right on the above picture you see a fancy street light. They added somewhere between 25 to 30 street lights along the sidewalk. Do the people of Pound now have to pay for electricity for the extra street lights?

Eventually you get to see houses and some business closer to HWY 64.

The sidewalk ends at HWY 64 to the north. If your in the area, you need to see this.

So there you have a 4000 ft sidewalk with new street lights that cost over 700 thousand dollars. Why couldn't they have used black top as a side walk / bike path? Why cement? Why the fancy street lights?

You cannot blame the Village of Pound for asking for their walkway but 723 thousand dollars! If you stand on the HWY 141 over pass you can look north and south and see it is a side walk that goes no where with the tax payer money.

Congressman Kagen, was all of the $723, 988 spent on this one stimulus project?

Congressman Kagen, how many jobs did this create? Where are those jobs today?

Congressman Kagen, could the money have been spent on a better project?

Congressman Kagen, how could you vote for wasteful stimulus which our children will have to pay for the rest of their life.

Congressman Kagen, I think you need to take a walk away from politics. This sidewalk is less then a mile but it should be the last mile you take for the people of the Wisconsin 8th district.

How much more useless spending will be done in this country?

Steve Kagen needs to be held accountable for his votes along with all the other politicians who voted for this wasteful spending.

Steve Kagen needs to go back to private practice.

People of the 8th, you need to vote Ribble this November in the Wisconsin 8th District.
