Like many private companies, local governments struggle with the increasing costs of providing health benefits for employees. The Green Bay School District pays about $30 million a year, while Brown County taxpayers spend about $25 million annually for health benefits that cover county workers.

Village of Ashwaubenon employees, for example, have no deductibles, and many other local government health plans have deductibles in the $200 to $500 range.

Holy cow, 86%?
Wages and benefits make up 86 percent of the Green Bay School District's budget, said John Wilson, assistant to the superintendent for human resources.

This was a big sacrifice.
The Green Bay Teachers Association recognizes the strain increasing health-care costs puts on governments, said president David Harswick.

The district implemented a wellness program in 2009 that, in part, allows employees to exercise, learn about nutrition and have a health assessment in exchange for lower premiums.

You can talk about any school district, any municipality, they're all in the same boat, their running broke and the tax payers are always on the hook for the money. What is the solution?

OBAMACARE!

The dems are handing a gift to the tax payers and the unions are too stupid to see whats coming. If Obama care will let employers opt out of private health care for only an 8 % health care cost to the federal government, look at the savings.
Taxpayers, municipalities and the state could drop all employees to the government plan and save billions! We would get lower property taxes, pot holes filled, better roads and bridges and save again BILLIONS!

Wouldn't it be great to see your school district spending money on teaching our children, your township lowering your property taxes. Could you see the Green Bay Press writing about the Green Bay school district lowering the charges to tax payers.

Most, not all, unions, state and county workers are all for Obama care and are blind to what could happen if this blue elephant passes. You know the old saying, be careful what you wish for, you may not like what you get. Teachers, county and state workers having the same health care as the rest of us, my God, what a thought.

I am not for OBAMA CARE in any way but if the left in schools, local and state gov are for saving their rear end, they for sure better stop Obama care like the rest of us.

But go head unions keep backing Obama and the dems. It's your rear end.
