By Leader Staff

A Mooseyard tradition is on again this weekend, as the 24th annual Mooseyard St. Paddy’s Day parade is on Saturday.

Sponsored by the Mooseyard Association — which consists of businesses around Shawano Lake — the day will feature music, food, and both indoor and outdoor fun.

The parade starts at 11 a.m. the Shawano Lake Golf Course, County Road H and ends at Bay Circle in the town of Wescott.

Festivities include the kick-off of the parade led by Grand Marshal Joe Gleason and Queen Kandi Fischer of Coachlight.

The awards ceremony for the parade will be at The Landing Club at 2:30 p.m.

Between the parade and the awards ceremony and afterward into the evening will be live music and drink and food specials at establishments in the Mooseyard. The establishments in the Mooseyard (north shore of Shawano Lake) will offer menus celebrating St. Patrick’s Day, including corned beef and cabbage.

Hayrides will also be offered all day on Lake Drive, starting at noon at The Landing Club.

The Loose Moose will have a eulogy at 3 p.m., with the burying of Lucy McMoose, a stuffed doll. It’s a tradition they’ve held the last 14 years.

The parade was started by Henry and Marlene Brown in 1986. The first queen of the parade was Bernice McHugh."
