This is a post I wrote for Kagen Watch. Thought I would cross post it here.
Kagen, Together Bart Stupak Will Help Wisconsin
From the Appleton Post Crescent.
It's good to see some progress at the Kimberly plant.
He was not aware? Maybe the paper should call Bart Stupak from Michigan. Mr. Stupak was involved in the New Page problem from the beginning. From his own web site.
Wasn't Steve Kagen in congress back in 2007? I thought he was. Why didn't he testify with Mr. Stupak? This just shows Kagen always gets in at the last minute to get the publicity! Grandstanding for only votes and not what is important to the people of Wisconsin.
At least the Congressman from Michigan is looking after the workers from Wisconsin.
A question to the workers at New Page in Niagara and Kimberly. Why wasn't Steve Kagen helping you from the beginning? Where was he in 2007? Better late then never doesn't help someone being told they lost their job.
Time to send Steve Kagen back to private practice.

KIMBERLY — NewPage officials may have changed their minds about either leasing or selling its mill in Kimberly, which employed as many as 600 people this year until it was closed on Sept. 8.
Andy Nirchl, president of the United Steel Workers Local 2-9, said Thursday he received a letter from NewPage chief executive officer Mark Suwyn, which says the company is open to either option so long as the interested party made a viable offer.

U.S. Rep. Steve Kagen, D-Appleton, was among a group of Wisconsin officials that met with Suwyn at the company's Miamisburg, Ohio, headquarters last month.
Talk about hot air. He was not aware of any letters shared between the union and NewPage, but noted, "ink on paper beats hot air in the hallways."

"In the fall of 2007, I was the only member of the U.S. House of Representatives to personally testify before the ITC to urge that it uphold the U.S. Department of Commerce’s findings and keep the duties for illegal dumping of coated paper in place.
