"Wausau Paper to close Appleton mill

APPLETON — Wausau Paper will close its Appleton mill by the end of the year.

According to the Wisconsin’s Department of Workforce Development, the first round of 14 permanent layoffs will be July 31.

The remaining 72 employees will be laid off before the plant’s closure Dec. 31.

Wausau Paper has 14 locations across the country. The four in Wisconsin are in Mosinee, Rhinelander, Brokaw and Appleton.

No word yet if the closure will affect other mills."
