The U. S. Forest Service is seeking public input on a project that will close 55% of the exisiting roads and trails on the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest to motorized vehicles.

Under a proposed Travel Management Rule, total road miles open to vehicles would plummett from 4,657 miles to around 2,100 miles — a figure that deviates slightly depending on which of two alternatives is chosen.

What the public wasn’t told last year, even prior to the open houses in October, was that the Forest Service had planned to close all but 203 miles of the 2,703 unauthorized miles of roads on the 1.5-million-acre forest.

Forest Service officials provided maps on the alternative and encouraged forest users to comment on roads they wanted open, but didn’t quantify what the alternative meant to motorized access on the forest. " Vilas County News-Review - Full Story

Those evil snowmobiles and ATV's. We will teach them.

I'm sure glad big brother is watching out for the people. They say they are seeking input. Yea right. They want people to choose between two proposals. I guess they ( U S Forest Service) made their minds up already. The U S forest Service and the WDNR must go to the same school. They take our taxes and then tell us what's good for us. We are all just a bunch of hicks and hayseeds.

Whats next, no firearms in Northern Wisconsin?

Big Brother is watching and taking over.
