Unemployment rates dropped in seven Northeastern Wisconsin counties last month, according to a report from the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development issued Wednesday.

Statewide, unemployment rates dropped in 69 of 72 counties.

Brown County's rate — not seasonally adjusted — was 7.7 percent in August, a dip from 8 percent in July but well over the rate of 4.3 percent in August 2008.

The state's unemployment figure is 8.4 percent, according to the report. That's down from 8.8 percent last month.

Other August numbers from counties in the Green Bay area include:

# Door: 6.7 percent, down from 6.9

# Kewaunee: 7.7 percent, down from 7.8

# Manitowoc: 9.6 percent, down from 10

# Marinette: 11.4 percent, down from 12.5

# Oconto: 10.5 percent, down from 11.3

# Shawano: 8.5 percent, down from 8.8

Menominee County continues to lead the state in unemployment at 17.8 percent, but even that is a reduction compared with July's figure of 18.1 percent.

Green Bay's unemployment figure was 11.8 percent last month, down from 12.4 the previous month." Jobless rate drops across the region | greenbaypressgazette.com | Green Bay Press-Gazette
