Fat Tuesday

It's almost 6:00 pm. Had 6 mini candy bars (snickers, Milky way and 3 Musketteers), 2 martinis, and just about to make a ham sandwich with white bread.

"Mardi Gras, literally "Fat Tuesday," has grown in popularity in recent years as a raucous, sometimes hedonistic event. But its roots lie in the Christian calendar, as the "last hurrah" before Lent begins on Ash Wednesday. That's why the enormous party in New Orleans, for example, ends abruptly at midnight on Tuesday, with battalions of streetsweepers pushing the crowds out of the French Quarter towards home.

What is less known about Mardi Gras is its relation to the Christmas season, through the ordinary-time interlude known in many Catholic cultures as Carnival. (Ordinary time, in the Christian calendar, refers to the normal "ordering" of time outside of the Advent/Christmas or Lent/Easter seasons. There is a fine Scripture From Scratch article on that topic if you want to learn more.)" Catholic Roots of Mardi Gras - Fat Tuesday History

What to give up for lent?

1)Tobacco?

2)Beer?

3)Vodka?

4)Alcohol in general?

5)Candy?

6)Ice Cream?

7)Blogging?

8)Nascar?

9) high carb food (on a low carb diet)bread, rice, spuds?

Geez, what to do, what to do.

For my Lord and Savior,

I will go with

2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 9!

You thought I would give up # 1, I will wait til May 23 to quit the sticks. More on that in future posts and taxes didn't go up yet on them. Yea, yea, I know its a bad habit but my goal is to quit in May.

Tomorrow is Ash Wednesday.
