Wow, A Sun Dog

From the Antigo Daily Journal

Sun Dogs

Dec. 13, 2010

Antigo was graced with the appearance of two sun dogs this morning, a weather phenomenon that has as been called “beautiful accents to a winter day or night as the rainbow is to a showery summer day.” Sun dogs usually appear in pairs, like this morning, and are “loyal” to the sun, sitting on each side of the solar orb. They are most commonly see during winter months when the sun is low in the sky and ice crystals in the atmosphere are more common. They appear when sunlight passes through ice crystals at the proper angle.
