HOWARD — The village will join a number of its neighbors this summer by converting to single-stream recycling, but the board will vote Monday on whether to purchase recycling carts for the transition.

The board will consider a resolution to amend its contract with Veolia Environmental Services by buying 90-gallon recycling carts in August for 5,600 residents, a cost that will be added to the 2010 tax bill. In September, the board approved a five-year garbage and recycling contract with Veolia.

Single-stream recycling allows residents to put all plastic, steel, glass and aluminum containers in one cart, along with paper and cardboard. The recycling center then sorts the material.

"We're going to single-stream regardless — this is the chance to get the bins now," said village Administrator Joshua Smith. "One of the selling points of single-stream is that it will reduce our landfill tonnage and reduce our costs."

The village could buy 5,600 of the 90-gallon bins for $43.25 each for a total cost of $242,200. That cost would be charged to each household as a one-time fee on the tax bill." Howard considers buying carts for single-stream recycling | greenbaypressgazette.com | Green Bay Press-Gazette

You have to give Howard credit for doing what is right not like the people of Wrightstown.
