WASHINGTON -- A week after Barack Obama won the presidency in November, speculation abounded that a White House job might await Wisconsin Gov. Jim Doyle.

Although an administration appointment didn't emerge, Doyle has been a frequent White House visitor and a trusted ally.

He has dined with the Obamas at the White House and was among the guests attending the president's signing of the State Children's Health Insurance Program bill, expanding health care coverage for the nation's uninsured children.
