Letter From The Boss
From Fairly Conservative which is said to be going around the net. Makes sense to me
I would like to make a couple of changes for the people of northeastern Wisconsin .
As the CEO of this organization, I have resigned myself to the fact that Barrack Obama is our President, Steve Kagen is our Congressman, Dave Hansen, Penny Schaber and Tom Nelson represents a lot of us in Madison and Herb Kohl and Russ Feingold are our U S Senators and because of them you know our taxes and government fees will increase in a BIG way in our future. To compensate for these increases, our prices would have to increase by about 10%. But since we cannot increase our prices right now due to the dismal state of the economy, we will have to lay off several of our employees instead. This has really been bothering me, since I believe we are family here and I didn’t know how to choose who would have to go.
So, this is what I did. I walked through our parking lot and found all Obama, Kagen, Hansen, Schaber, Nelson, Kohl and Feingold bumper stickers on our employees’ cars and have decided these folks will be the ones to let go. I can’t think of a more fair way to approach this problem. They voted for democrat change and, I gave it to them.
I will see the rest of you at the annual company picnic, beer, brats and fireworks are on me."
Might even be a good TV spot in 2010.

Democrat Dave Hansen's Gets A Pay Raise, But Not You
From WBAY.
Here Dave Hansen tells prosecutors to give up pay. Did he tell them and you the rest of the story.
State Furloughs Could Mean Fewer County Prosecutors
"Democratic lawmakers furloughs are a burden all parts of the state must absorb.
"We are all going to have to bite the bullet," Senator Dave Hansen (D-Green Bay) said. "We're doing it, and they are just going to have to work a little bit harder. I'm sympathetic, obviously, but times are tough and we're all doing what we have to do to make this budget work."
Hansen said he and his staff are taking 16 days off without pay. He feels furloughs are necessary to relieve the budget deficit."
State Furloughs Could Mean Fewer County Prosecutors - WBAY-TV Green Bay-Fox Cities-Northeast Wisconsin News:
Dave, what is this? What is the $2530 raise you received?
From the Wisconsin State Journal.
But not Wisconsin lawmakers. Our fearless leaders -- fearless, apparently, of public outrage at their arrogance -- are mostly accepting higher full-time pay for what most of them acknowledge is a part-time job.
"According to the chief clerks of the Senate and Assembly, 122 of the state's 132 lawmakers started receiving a $2,530 annual raise in their monthly paychecks from taxpayers last week. That boosts each member's annual pay to $49,943. On top of that, each lawmaker receives an average of $11,500 in daily allowances for expenses each year. They also are reimbursed for mileage to and from the Capitol if they live outside Dane County."
WISCONSIN STATE JOURNAL
That's an extra $2530, $11,500 in daily allowances and mileage. Does your company give you allowances and pay mileage to and from work?
Also if Dave and his staff do not work everyday of the year, it sounds like extra days off. How sweet. Do you get that. Wisconsin politicians even admit they're working only part time to boot? Sweet. Did anyone ever ask Dave Hansen how many days a year he really works. MSM, do your job here.
So to all the people who lost jobs, out of work and are struggling, Dave Hansen is saying one thing and getting something else.
Where is the MSM on calling Dave Hansen and his hypocrisy. And he said " he and his staff are taking 16 days off without pay." YEA RIGHT!
Oh I forgot, it's only your money!

"Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shewn that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security. "Those pesky mosquitoes... will they go away?
By Nathan Falk, Leader Reporter
If it’s summer in Wisconsin, it just wouldn’t be the same without those pesky mosquitoes.
The Wolf River Region hasn’t yet been inundated due to the lack of rainfall, but it doesn’t take much to turn that around, according to Phil Pellitteri, University of Wisconsin Extension entomologist.
Although there are 55 mosquito species in Wisconsin, it's the Aedes Vexans variety that can really wreak havoc, Pellitteri said. If Aedes Vexans eggs get two weeks of standing water, 100 mosquitoes or more have the ability to hatch from one square foot of surface water.
“If it rains, they’re here,” said Pellitteri.
Also known as summer floodwater mosquitoes, the eggs of the mosquito can sit for three to four years, waiting for flood conditions to hatch.
“They can sit on the edge of a drainage ditch. Heavy rains with fluctuating water get us into trouble,” he said. “It takes about 10 days from when the eggs get flooded to when we’ll get a push of mosquitoes. That’s what makes this group problematic, as they can travel 15 to 20 miles from where they are breeding.”
With the past few summers being relatively dry, past mosquito populations have lagged a bit.
“I always blame it on the weather man,” Pellitteri joked. “If we get a three-inch downpour, something as innocent as a highway drainage ditch or culvert, those summer floodwater mosquitoes take advantage of the water, and there are no fish or other predators to mess with them, and they’re out of there before anyone eats them.”
And those pesky critters don’t stop there.
“Their eggs that can remain dormant, it doesn’t matter if it’s dry for a couple years either,” he said. “The eggs are not susceptible to winters, and those mosquitoes are capable of going 3 to 4 generations a year.”
To lessen the mosquito nuisance in your own yard, Pellitteri suggests cutting tall grass and trimming bushes to increase air flow and eliminate damp spots where the bugs like to hang out. A fan blowing near a patio or deck can also diminish the threat, because mosquitoes are not strong fliers.
“Deet has been a standby for repellents, it’s still a good product, but in addition there are a number of European products, including lemon oil, eucalyptus, and soybean oils of which I’ve seen a couple good tests,” Pellitteri said.
The entomology department at UW-Madison has a page with tips at http://www.entomology.wisc.edu/mosquitosite
“What you’ll find looking at products is protection anywhere from 20 minutes to 3 or 4 hours, depending on the formula, and how active you are,” he said. “With those, mosquitoes get confused or repelled, but don’t bite you.”
Mosquitoes are also known carriers of the West Nile virus, which is spread by the bite of a mosquito. The first human infections of West Nile virus in Wisconsin were documented in 2002. Approximately 80 percent of people infected with West Nile virus do not become ill. Most of the remaining 20 percent of infected people may experience a mild illness that can present with fever, headache, eye pain, muscle aches, joint pain, a rash on the trunk, swollen lymph nodes, nausea and vomiting. Less than 1 percent of people infected will become severely ill.
“The less bites you get, the less risk you take,” he said. “When mosquitoes get bad, it’s good to use protection. I carry a mesh suit in my car, my hobbies and interests include being in swamps in summer, and I’ll use that rather than slather stuff on. For people who garden, it’s a definite alternative to consider.”"

"Evacuation order lifted in Cudahy
By Ryan Haggerty of the Journal Sentinel
Updated: July 6, 2009 7:06 p.m.
The large visible smoke plume from the Patrick Cudahy Plant fire in southeast Milwaukee County can also be detected by the National Weather Service's Doppler Radar. Typically only very large fires produce enough smoke to be seen from radar.
Cudahy residents forced to leave their homes today while firefighters battled a huge fire at the Patrick Cudahy meatpacking plant can sleep in their own beds tonight.
Mayor Ryan McCue announced the evacuation order had been lifted as of 7 p.m., after extensive testing showed no dangerous anhydrous ammonia in the smoke and fumes wafting from outside the plant.

Smithfield says burning plant's business can be shifted, minimal disruption for customers
* On Monday July 6, 2009, 4:57 pm EDT
MILWAUKEE (AP) -- Smithfield Foods Inc. says its customers should not expect much of a disruption due to a fire at its Patrick Cudahy Inc. plant in the Milwaukee area.
The nation's largest hog producer and pork processor says in a statement Monday its other facilities have extra capacity to help with production.
The plant makes packaged meat products, like bacon, salami and ham, for retail and foodservice customers, such as restaurants and other commercial establishments.
Smithfield, Va.-based Smithfield has been restructuring its operations and shuttering some plants to focus on its packaged meat business, which is more profitable than its hog business.
The plant has about 1,800 employees and ranks as one of Smithfield's larger plants.

"Brown County juries routinely seeing higher rates of white jurors
Rate of disparity becomes greater every step in selection process
By Keegan Kyle • kkyle@greenbaypressgazette.com • July 5, 2009
Racial minorities serve on Brown County juries to a lesser degree than they exist in the population.
In the past eight years, juries have routinely contained a higher ratio of white people and a lower ratio of minorities compared with demographic estimates for the county.
An analysis of annual jury management reports by the Green Bay Press-Gazette shows the jury selection process becomes less representative of the overall population as it nears the courtroom.
The first pool of residents generated in the process almost perfectly reflects demographic estimates each year from the U.S. Census Bureau, but the concentration of white people increases at several steps toward a pool of sworn jurors.
Brown County staff members who manage juror selection said they weren't concerned about the level of racial disparity and said computer programs randomly select participants." Brown County juries routinely seeing higher rates of white jurors | greenbaypressgazette.com | Green Bay Press-Gazette

Steve Kagen Making News In North Carolina
From the NinerOnline from Charlotte. Steve Kagen is getting press coverage from all over this country. Seems all sorts of people are taking notice of Wisconsin's 8th district congressman.
"Historic energy bill faces a tough road aheadCongressman Kagen, wasn't the 787 billion to a trillion dollars you passed in the stimulus bill supposed to create jobs? Now you want to blow another $190 billion.
Rob McCormick, Jr.
Staff Writer
Published: Monday, July 6, 2009
Updated: Monday, July 6, 2009.
The U.S. House of Representatives narrowly approved a historic energy bill on June 26 and the bill makes its way to the Senate later this month.
The comprehensive 1,400 page Clean Energy and Security Act of 2009 marks the most aggressive energy bill ever passed by the U.S. House and faces a great deal of controversy and criticism. The Clean Energy and Security Act of 2009 require the United States to reduce green house gas emissions 17 percent by 2020 and 80 percent by the end of the century. Measures are established in order to assist those industries impacted by a low carbon economy.
The reduction in green house gas emissions through the Clean Energy and Security Act will exceed President Obama’s goals of reducing emissions to 1990 levels by the year 2020.
However, the environmental benefits are not the only gains taken into consideration with the passage of this bill. Through the creation of new energy sources an estimated 1.6 million domestic jobs may be created.
Congressman Steve Kagen says, “It provides $190 billion of investment in developing new sources of energy that are less carbon dioxide producing.""
Niner Online - Historic energy bill faces a tough road ahead
While the benefit to the environment and creation of new jobs sounds promising enough, critics argue that there are some serious costs not being properly considered. The EPA estimates that the average household will see an $80 - $110 per year increase to their energy bills. Businesses will also face an increase in operating costs, not only through an increase in energy costs but also in the newly required building codes that the bill requires.
Many critics fear that the increased expenses for businesses to operate may very well lead to staff layoffs.
The entire process of completing the Clean Energy and Security Act of 2009 may be finished by the end of this year if the Senate approves the bill.
However, with such narrow margins in the House, passing this bill in the Senate could prove to be much more challenging.

Patrick Cudahy Fire
Just want to make a couple comments on the fire at the Patrick Cudahy plant in Cudahy.
Our prayers go out to the company and all the people who work for Patrick Cudahy. For 120 years they have produced Wisconsin's great tasting products that made you proud to be from Wisconsin.
From JSOnline
"Cudahy - Mayor Ryan McCue said a state of emergency has been declared as fire officials continue to battle a blaze at the Patrick Cudahy meatpacking plant.
Fire Chief Dan Mayer said ammonia in the plant that has caused concern throughout the day appears to be contained.
"We believe that's safe now inside," Mayer said. "From the ammonia standpoint, I'm cautiously optimistic that we have crossed the dangerous period.""
Cudahy officials declare state of emergency - JSOnline
Our prayers also go out to the fire fighters and all the people battling the blaze and hope no one will be injured from this disaster.
I speak from being a former employee and look forward to the company getting through this hardship. Everyone involved with Patrick Cudahy were all professional and made everyone feel like family. What a group of GREAT people and GREAT products. This is only a set back and hope the future will be once again bright for all the people at Patrick Cudahy.

Wisconsin Jobs, It's Defense Spending Stupid
From Try 2 Focus who gives us good news for some workers and businesses in Wisconsin.
What does Oshkosh Truck and Pierce have in common?
Answer, both contracts are out of the defense budget, not the stimulus bill. With all the money we are spending from the stimulus , where are the jobs?
Where is the MSM on this. Will Steve Kagen take credit for these two contracts and say the stimulus bill is creating jobs?
MSM, the stimulus is not working!
What does Oshkosh Truck and Pierce have in common?
"Some good news for the Fox Valley.
Another military contract is going to a Northeastern Wisconsin company.
Pierce Manufacturing in Appleton says the U.S. Navy placed a $10 million order for 29 specialized fire trucks and two hazardous-material vehicles.
Pierce makes a range of fire trucks that have also been used in large cities, particularly helping to rebuild the New York Fire Department’s fleet after 9/11, and specialized trucks for fighting wildfires and airport fires.
The news comes just two days after Oshkosh Corporation was awarded a one-billion dollar defense contract of its own.

Steve Kagen Election File File # 2
From The Green Bay Press.
We have more evidence of Mr Kagen's insanity for next years election. Here he teams up with a bunch of wacko's pushing bio fuel. Mr Dickman must be getting a lot of government assistants with his pet business. And other fruit cakes are falling out of the tree following him. I will just highlight in red some of the more just plain crazy statements from Kagen.
"Energy bill heads to Senate with Kagen's supportThe guy is looking for more of your tax dollars! Speaking of Mr Dickman, didn't Clint Eastwood say Larry Dickman was his brother in one of his dirty Harry movies? Remember, he goes up to this whore house, old ladies are writing love letters and kissing the letters with a lot of lipstick! Back to the article.
Consumption is tops for many businesses
By Nathan Phelps • nphelps@greenbaypressgazette.com • July 3, 2009
ASHWAUBENON — The carbon footprint of transportation and other companies is becoming a growing concern to consumers.
Finding ways to get products to customers with the least amount of energy consumption, environmental impact and economic impact is one of the roles Ashwaubenon-based Breakthrough Fuel fulfills.
The head of the company, Craig Dickman, says the pending "American Clean Energy and Security Act" is bound to put an increased focus on energy consumption and the environment, as well as helping their business.
"When I started this business in 2004, probably one out of 10 companies wanted to talk about emissions and carbon footprints. Now it's probably five out of 10 and it's going to be nine out of 10 very, very quickly," he said.Yea, 5 out of 10 loony's
Dickman said for some clients, their adaptation of measures to curb their environmental impact has become a marketing tool to customers.Oh brother!
"We have clients that are building into their corporate go-to-market strategies," he said. "One of our clients is focused on how we can work with them over five to seven years to change how they get product to the market. They want to go to the marketplace and say all of their goods are being moved using environmentally friendly, renewable, fuels.
"They see that as an important consumer value that folks are going to look for when making choices about products," he said.
Dickman participated in a news conference Thursday with Rep. Steve Kagen, D-Appleton, in which Kagen touted the energy bill as a way to create new jobs in the region and nation and move the county away from dependence on foreign energy sources.Create new jobs, how many new jobs did the stimulus bill give us? Unemployment nation wide is 9.5 %. Steve, what jobs?
"This energy bill will slowly begin to transform our economy," said Kagen, who said he had concerns about an earlier draft of the bill that didn't take into account the paper and agriculture sectors. "It will begin to change the way we generate energy and the way we consume energy … and we're going to change the way we do business.""Slowly", yea maybe 30 years. "Had concerns over the earlier draft", he didn't read any draft of any bill and he talks like he knows whats in the bill! He is insane! Also, " didn't take into account the paper and agriculture sectors". What? He's going to close more paper mills and the farmers are going to charged for cow farts! That will sure change the face of the Wisconsin economy?
The bill passed the House of Representatives last week by a 219-212 vote and is now headed to the Senate. It will be a nightmare and Steve Kagen's hands are all over this!
Prior to last week's vote, Rep. John Boehner, the House Republican leader, called it a "bureaucratic nightmare" that would cost jobs, depress real estate prices and put the government into parts of the economy where it now has no role.
The legislation would require the U.S. to reduce carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gas emissions by 17 percent from 2005 levels by 2020 and by about 80 percent by mid-century. That was slightly more aggressive than Obama originally wanted, 14 percent by 2020 and the same 80 percent by mid-century.So me, you ,all humans emit carbon dioxide when we breathe. Does Steve Kagen want to eliminate humans on earth? Don't put it past him!
Under the bill, the government would limit heat-trapping pollution from factories, refineries and power plants and issue allowances for polluters. Most of the allowances would be given away, but about 15 percent would be auctioned by bid and the proceeds used to defray higher energy costs for lower-income individuals and families. There goes a lot of businesses in Wisconsin on top of high electric prices.
Kagen contends passage of the bill — which he said puts all forms of energy on the table, from nuclear to biomass — would not put an undue financial burden on average Americans. What does he consider "undue"?
"The estimates that were available were anywhere from $40 to $140 per year is the additional electricity cost a homeowner may pay," he said. "It's little to no cost and we're becoming energy independent."Steve Kagen, is not telling the truth here, it will be $40 to $140 more per month not per year! That's $1680 a year alone on electic costs! What about gasoline prices? What about food prices? Mr. Kagen should be silent on his vote on cap and tax, cap and trade, what ever you want to call it! INSERT FOOT INTO MOUTH! Nice.

"UWGB extends application deadlines for local counties
BY KELLY MCBRIDE • kmcbride@greenbaypressgazette.com • July 1, 2009
The University of Wisconsin-Green Bay is taking the unusual step of keeping applications open through August — but only for students in 11 local counties.
The university stopped taking most freshman applications in May, and the application period for most transfer students ends today.
But officials decided to give local students more time, in part because of the slumping economy.
“We’ve had a few exchanges with students who have had to change their plans because of the economy,” said Pam Harvey-Jacobs, director of admissions at UWGB. “And those are typically local students, who decide they want or need to stay closer to home. So I think it’s good to be able to accommodate those students.”
The change means that new freshmen or transfer students who live in Brown, Kewaunee, Door, Oconto, Marinette, Shawano, Menominee, Calumet, Outagamie, Winnebago and Manitowoc counties still can apply for admission through mid-August, Harvey-Jacobs said." Where Was The Steve Kagen Tango?
From Chris at Ol'Broad, The …..WHISKEY TANGO FOXTROT.
"Rep. Kaptur gets $3.5 billion sweetener in climate billWhen House Democratic leaders were rounding up votes Friday for the massive climate-change bill, they paid special attention to their colleagues from Ohio who remained stubbornly undecided.
They finally secured the vote of one Ohioan, veteran Democratic Rep. Marcy Kaptur of Toledo, the old-fashioned way. They gave her what she wanted – a new federal power authority, similar to Washington state’s Bonneville Power Administration, stocked with up to $3.5 billion in taxpayer money available for lending to renewable energy and economic development projects in Ohio and other Midwestern states.
House Energy and Commerce Chairman Henry A. Waxman, California Democrat, included the Kaptur project in a 310-page amendment to the legislation unveiled at 3 a.m. Friday, just hours before the bill was to be debated on the House floor. The amendment was packed with other vote-getting provisions, both large and small, that had been sought by dozens of wavering Democrats.
The wheeling and dealing proved successful. Mr. Waxman and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, California Democrat, backed by the personal lobbying of President Obama, won over enough lawmakers to pass the bill narrowly Friday evening, 219-212.
Obviously, politicians are not cheap….BUT THEY CAN BE BOUGHT!"
As Chris Says…… , An Ol’ Broad’s Ramblings
Politicians for sell is nothing new, but you’d think they would stop…just for a minute or two, and consider the ramifications. Nope! That would be asking WAY too much of our supposed elected representatives. Perhaps it’s time to lock the SOBs out of OUR House!
Geez, you think Steve Kagen could of held out for a couple 100 mil for the 8th district of Wisconsin? He get's paid from the special interest groups, why not from Waxman last Friday. Did he forget New Page Niagara, New Page Kimberly or Carver Boat Pulaski,
How many jobs has Kagen's stimulus vote generated so far? So Kagen voted for Cap and Trade and got nothing out of it! I guess I'm glad he didn't sell himself on this one, but don't worry, it's only the 1st of July.
Kagen still has plenty of time.

"A Path to Higher Education for Wisconsin Students"From the Escanaba Daily Press about drastic cuts in college scholarships, need-based grants and work-study programs in Michigan. Today, Michigan's children are going to be hurt and tomorrow the children of Wisconsin will never see such a program happen. Why do states have to pay for higher education anyway? Where's the parents or can't students work for it. My God, what a radical idea, WORK for education!

"Scholarships in jeopardy? Bay College officials say loss would not be pretty
By Audrey LaFave - alafave@dailypress.net
POSTED: July 1, 2009
ESCANABA - The state of Michigan is considering drastic cuts in funding for college scholarships, need-based grants and work-study programs, and officials at Bay College say the impact would not be pretty.
The state Senate passed a bill last Tuesday that would eliminate funding for a state-sponsored college scholarship program. The higher education bill passed recently in a 19-17 Senate 0vote would eliminate money for the Michigan Promise scholarship as well as slash the budget for need-based grant programs for the fiscal year that starts Oct. 1. But it keeps a placeholder for the Promise program in place in case lawmakers figure out a way to at least partially fund the scholarships.
Dr. Laura Coleman, president of Bay College, said the magnitude of financial aid cuts that need to be made at the state level will impact students locally, who in total receive more than $1 million of state-aid-based funding per year.
"It will impact the college overall, but mostly the students," said Coleman. "The merit scholarships account for about 30 percent of that (million dollar) number, and so this is going to have a dramatic impact on our students."
Coleman said while the proposals in the legislature change on a daily if not hourly basis, a few of the scholarships at this point have been kept intact at a reduced rate, but the Tuition Incentive Program (TIP), which is slated for reduction or complete elimination from the budget, accounts for 35 percent overall at Bay College.
Coleman also said state work-study cuts will affect the college heavily and likely result in a catch-22 of financial woes.
"We rely on our work-study students to a high degree," she said. "We are going to have to restrict the amount of work-study (funds and positions) we award, and that will impact the college in that our regular staff will have to pick up the work, or we will have to hire people, which we cannot afford to do."
The college student work-study programs will likely be a victim of state budget cuts, while the federal programs remains intact. Coleman said work-study students are among those most likely to contribute to college retention rates.
"What we find across the country, is that work-study students are the most likely to complete a semester, complete a year and complete a degree," Coleman said. "These programs reduce the drop-out rate."
More than 96,000 students who have graduated throughout the state since 2007 are expecting Michigan Promise scholarships ranging from $1,000 to $4,000 this fall. Students earn the grants by passing a standardized test (MEAP) or successfully completing two years of college.
Coleman said while these cuts are unfortunate for both students and higher education institutions, they are becoming necessary as the state's financial situation worsens.
"It is very sad, but that being said, the state is in a very, very bad place. The taxable income coming into the state has been drastically reduced, and the net result is services are going to be cut," she said.
Coleman said not only has higher education been hit, but K-12 schools as well.
"The state either has to cut programs or raise taxes," she said. "It's really a no-win situation."
If the House, the full Senate and the governor sign off on the plan, its impact would be immediate, forcing colleges to redo financial aid packages and families to scrape up the cash, apply for loans or put off attending college. The higher education bill now returns to the Democrat-led House.
The cuts are necessary because the state is facing a $1.7 billion deficit for the fiscal year that begins Oct. 1. Cuts in higher education will land disproportionately on financial aid because of stimulus money rules. Accepting federal stimulus dollars precludes the state from reducing university funding, so that leaves financial aid the only area left to cut.
In addition to the elimination of the popular $140 million Michigan Promise Scholarship program, the Senate higher education subcommittee bill would reduce need-based grant programs from about $139 million last year to about $85 million this year.
Other need-based grant programs would also be dramatically cut. The Tuition Grant program would be trimmed from $56.7 million to $31.7 million. Funding for the Competitive Scholarship would by slashed from $35.5 million to $16.3 million under the proposal." KAUKAUNA - A Fox Valley businessman said he plans to challenge U.S. Rep. Steve Kagen in the 2010 election.
Reid Ribble, president of Kaukauna-based The Ribble Group, told FOX 11 he hopes to file paperwork Thursday, officially declaring his intent to run as a Republican. The Ribble Group owns Security Roofing and Luebke Roofing.
Two other Republicans – Door Co. Supv. Marc Savard and Brown Co. Supv. Andy Williams – have already announced their intent to run for the Eighth Congressional District seat. A published report in WisPolitics.com says John Gard, who ran against Kagen in 2006 and 2008, will not run in 2010.
Kagen, a Democrat, was first elected to the seat in 2006 and re-elected in 2008.
When reached for comment, Kagen spokesman Jake Rubin declined to address the opposition, instead saying, "Congressman Steve Kagen is working hard to bring about all the changes families in Northeast Wisconsin need, like guaranteeing access to affordable health care for all of us and helping small businesses create the jobs we need to work our way back into prosperity."
A primary election for the seat would be held in September 2010, with the general election the following November."

"Movie tells story of Frechette's time with Dillinger
By Cory Dellenbach, Leader reporter
After today, people will learn more about John Dillinger’s love interest Neopit native Evelyn Frechette — better known as Billie Frechette.
Played by Oscar winning French actress Marion Cotillard, Frechette is Dillinger’s love interest in the movie “Public Enemies” that opens today country-wide.
“Unfortunately there’s not a full biography of Evelyn,” said Michael Chapman of Keshena, who served as technical consultant for the film. “There’s just glimpses of her here and there during this era. Nothing really flushes out the full scope of her life here or in Chicago living with her sister.”
Frechette was born in 1907 to a French father and a Native American mother. She lived on the Menominee Reservation, in Neopit, until the age of 13 where she also attended St. Anthony Catholic School (now Menominee Tribal School).
When she was 18, Frechette moved to Chicago, where she worked as a nursemaid and waitress. Frechette married Welton Sparks, who was sentenced to prison in 1933 for committing a mail robbery.
It was in November 1933 when she met John Dillinger at a dance hall.
It was believed, Chapman says, that Frechette was attracted to Dillinger because she had a big distrust of authority and federal officials and that helped bond them.
“There was something in those eyes that I will never forget,” Frechette told “True Confessions” magazine in an interview. “They were piercing and electric, yet there was an amused carefree twinkle in them too. They met my eyes and held me hypnotized for an instant.”
Frechette, who was then 26, described the 30-year-old Dillinger as a gentleman.
“John was good to me. He looked after me and bought me all kinds of jewelry and cars and pets, and we went places and saw things, and he gave me everything a girl wants. He treated me like a lady,” Frechette told the magazine.
Frechette, however, gave Dillinger minimal assistance on his adventures. She made purchases for him, such as clothing and cars, but for the most part, she performed the role of a housewife.
“There are lots of stories (of Dillinger) coming to the reservation. My grandmother would actually fry fish for them when they were in town,” Chapman said. “I heard another story where he had come and he had a brand new car and he was parked in Neopit and he had come out and kids were all over his car. He gave all the kids a silver dollar and they all ran home and got off his car.”
Besides being Dillinger’s lover and companion, Frechette did his cooking and cleaning. Only once did she drive a getaway car, when the St. Paul police had discovered their apartment — and that was only because Dillinger had been wounded in the leg, according to the magazine.
The two were reunited in Chicago after Dillinger’s escape from a prison in Crown Point, Ind. — an escape which she may have helped with smuggling money and maps to him during a visit.
Frechette was arrested by Department of Investigation special agents on April 9, 1934. Dillinger drove around the block several times before Pat Cherrington, the girlfriend of Dillinger gang member John Hamilton, convinced him that he would be killed if he tried to rescue Frechette.
During her trial in St. Paul, Frechette testified that during her D.O.I. interrogation, she had been slapped and deprived of food and sleep for two days. Dillinger became so angry, he vowed to kill Harold H. Reinecke, the agent in charge of Frechette’s interrogation. He later gave up his intention.
Frechette served two years in federal prison for harboring a criminal. After Dillinger’s death, she sold her story to True Confessions, True Romance and the Chicago Herald and Examiner.
Upon her release in 1936, Frechette toured in a theatrical show called “Crime Doesn’t Pay” with members of Dillinger’s family. She talked about her life with Dillinger, and answered the audience’s questions about him.
Frechette eventually had two subsequent marriages. She died of cancer on Jan. 13, 1969 in Shawano and is buried in the St. Anthony Church cemetery in Neopit."
