The large visible smoke plume from the Patrick Cudahy Plant fire in southeast Milwaukee County can also be detected by the National Weather Service's Doppler Radar. Typically only very large fires produce enough smoke to be seen from radar.

Cudahy residents forced to leave their homes today while firefighters battled a huge fire at the Patrick Cudahy meatpacking plant can sleep in their own beds tonight.

Mayor Ryan McCue announced the evacuation order had been lifted as of 7 p.m., after extensive testing showed no dangerous anhydrous ammonia in the smoke and fumes wafting from outside the plant.
