Voters of the 30th, delusions of grandeur? Should there be concern here? Who's at fault for Wisconsin's budget problems?

Madison - Democratic legislators Tuesday inserted in the state budget a provision to allow 19,000 University of Wisconsin System faculty and staff to join unions, despite Republican warnings that it would be costly at a time when state government faces a record deficit.

In other action, the Legislature's Joint Finance Committee:

• Voted to make more out-of-work residents eligible for unemployment compensation, which would qualify state government for $89.3 million in federal stimulus money.

• Voted to hire 31 new tax agents and auditors to work on collecting a record $1 billion in unpaid taxes.

• Approved spending $44.5 million in federal stimulus money on 32 road and bridge projects. For years, UW faculty and staff have sought authorization to vote on joining unions. Republican legislators have blocked the move, but Democrats now control the Legislature for the first time in 14 years.

"It is something that is all about fairness," said Sen. Dave Hansen (D-Green Bay), who sponsored the change, which was added to the committee's version of the next budget on a 12-4 vote." Joint Finance OKs expansion of unemployment benefits - JSOnline

What Dave Hansen says about our budget problems from a letter to the Green Bay Press Gazette.
"Sen. Dave Hansen column: Published notices called 'subsidy'

By Dave Hansen • Guest commentary • May 13, 2009

Recently, the editorial board of the Green Bay Press-Gazette took me to task for voting to end a taxpayer subsidy to the Wisconsin State Journal. The payment is for the Wisconsin State Journal to publish official notices by the state." Sen. Dave Hansen column: Published notices called 'subsidy' | greenbaypressgazette.com | Green Bay Press-Gazette

As the Press-Gazette knows, we are facing an unprecedented deficit of $6.6 billion resulting from the crisis brought on by the excessive greed on Wall Street. This crisis is forcing us to make deep cuts including important services that will be needed now more than ever to help area residents stay afloat.

So it's Wall Street's fault for Wisconsin's $6.6 billion budget deficit?

Dave Hansen, excuse me. What? Who's fault is it? What deep cuts have you made? Your spending our tax dollars and raising our taxes through the roof and it's not your fault. Mr Hansen was elected to represent us in Wisconsin. Looks like he is not doing the job he was elected to do! Who has excessive greed?

Time to elect someone else in the 30th District of Wisconsin.

Maybe some hard hitting reporting from the GB PG about the budget problems and Dave Hansen. Maybe? The voters of the 30th deserve it.
