UPSON, Wis. -- Taconite mining could return to the Gogebic Range in about nine years, and that's good news for Iron County and the surrounding area.

Gogebic Taconite proposes to mine iron ore from an area about 22 miles long and 1,200 feet wide between Upson and Mellen, in Iron and Ashland counties."

The question is, will the mine open? Will tree huggers stop it? If done right, there could be jobs in northern Wisconsin and still keep the environment pristine. Time and attitudes of state residents will tell.
