Bass Pro Shops put its reputation as a defender of the outdoors on the line by backing away from building a store in Wisconsin that critics say could have damaged an urban wetland.

Wisconsin Rep. Brett Hulsey sent a letter Wednesday to Bass Pro founder John Morris and Jim Hagale, president and CEO, asking them to contact him and other concerned lawmakers about the wetlands issue.

In their letter, Hulsey and other lawmakers asked Bass Pro officials to consider the potential impact to the site's wetlands.

And This from JSOnline today.

Gov. Scott Walker said Friday he wants the Legislature to quickly pass a bill that would allow a developer to build on a wetland near Lambeau Field, even as the retailer that was envisioned as an anchor for the development announced it would not build on a wetland.
Walker's comments came just after Bass Pro Shops issued a statement saying the company would not build on a wetland. The Missouri-based retailer had earlier discussed with a developer locating a store at Highway 41 and Lombardi Ave. in Ashwaubenon near the home of the Green Bay Packers.
Four Democratic lawmakers sent a letter to John L. Morris, founder of Bass Pro Shops, on Wednesday expressing their concerns about the project and its effect on the local ecosystem.
On Friday, Sen. Robert Cowles (R-Allouez) said that he recently toured the property.
"It shouldn't even be an issue," Cowles said.
"This is no wetland. I walked the site and I thought, 'this whole hubbub is about this site?' Come on!"

We need to do what ever we can to get the four democrats who wrote this letter replaced at their next election! Maybe a recall!!!!
