The Wisconsin Taxpayers Alliance report relies on data released last month by the U.S. Census Bureau.

The alliance says the percentage of personal income claimed by taxes in Wisconsin is 12th highest nationwide. However, when looking at it based on the amount of taxes paid per person, Wisconsin ranks better at 20th.

Based on taxes as a percentage of personal income, Wisconsin was ninth highest for property taxes, 12th for income, 24th for corporate and 33rd for sales.

The 12.16 percent of personal income spent on state and local taxes was down a tenth of a percentage point from the previous year but still a half-point above the national average." Report: Wisconsin taxes claim 12 percent of income | Postcrescent.com | Appleton Post-Crescent
