WAUSAU, Wis. - A doctor who says she can balance Wisconsin's state budget through cuts to government and can improve the state's business climate by lowering taxes wants to challenge a powerful state senator next fall.
Pam Galloway of Wausau, the chairwoman of the Republican Party in Marathon County, says she will be a candidate in the 29th Senate District in 2010.
The incumbent, Democrat Russ Decker of Weston, is the Senate majority leader and has held the seat since 1990.
The 54-year-old Galloway is director of the Breast Center of Central Wisconsin. She says recent so-called Tea Party protests of government spending helped convince her more citizens need to get involved in government.
Decker's spokeswoman, Carrie Lynch, says the senator plans to seek re-election next year." Senate majority leader has GOP opponent for 2010
