KAUKAUNA - A Fox Valley businessman said he plans to challenge U.S. Rep. Steve Kagen in the 2010 election.

Reid Ribble, president of Kaukauna-based The Ribble Group, told FOX 11 he hopes to file paperwork Thursday, officially declaring his intent to run as a Republican. The Ribble Group owns Security Roofing and Luebke Roofing.

Two other Republicans – Door Co. Supv. Marc Savard and Brown Co. Supv. Andy Williams – have already announced their intent to run for the Eighth Congressional District seat. A published report in WisPolitics.com says John Gard, who ran against Kagen in 2006 and 2008, will not run in 2010.

Kagen, a Democrat, was first elected to the seat in 2006 and re-elected in 2008.

When reached for comment, Kagen spokesman Jake Rubin declined to address the opposition, instead saying, "Congressman Steve Kagen is working hard to bring about all the changes families in Northeast Wisconsin need, like guaranteeing access to affordable health care for all of us and helping small businesses create the jobs we need to work our way back into prosperity."

A primary election for the seat would be held in September 2010, with the general election the following November."
