WASHINGTON — In the final two weeks before the midterm elections, Rep. Steve Kagen injected $300,000 of his own money into his campaign in a last-ditch effort to keep his seat in the House of Representatives.

n all, Kagen raised more than $1.7 million for his 2010 re-election campaign and spent more than $2 million. Kagen began the two-year 2010 fundraising cycle with $4,972 in the bank and ended with $34,652.

Maybe voters just wanted jobs, and less wasteful government. What's the old saying, you can put lipstick on a pig but it's still a pig.
