Gannett Wisconsin Media
LITTLE CHUTE — A 50-year-old Appleton woman died this afternoon after her car went out of control on U.S. 41 and was struck broadside by a truck.
The woman was taken to Appleton Medical Center after the crash about 1:15 p.m. in the southbound lanes near Holland Road. The State Patrol said
it would not release her name for 24 hours.State Patrol Lt. Nick Scorcio said the crash occurred after the woman’s left rear tire went flat. She lost control
of the car and it crossed into the left lane, where it was struck in the driver’s door by a southbound truck. The truck driver was not injured. Scorcio said the truck driver was wearing a seat belt, but the woman who died was not wearing one.Road and weather conditions were not a factor in the crash, Scorcio said.Outagamie County Coroner Ruth Wulgaert said an autopsy would be scheduled for Wednesday. Southbound lanes of the highway were closed for more than two hours but reopened about 3:40 p.m., officials said.Troopers from the State Patrol are reconstructing the crash.

That’s why I’m voting for Fred Thompson. He’s still on the ballot. Fred Thompson is not perfect, but he most closely represents my views. I am casting my vote to tell the Republican Party that their front runner is not who I want at the top of the ticket, even if it is now inevitable. I want to walk out of the voting booth having voted for my
choice for the Republican nominee - not just the choice I’m left with.

Purpose will be available when the amendment is proposed for
consideration. See Congressional Record for text.

First, I know alot of farmers and they all have computer access, what the heck is someone trying to load into this bill? Are we now going to give rural america free broad band networking? How many farmers go to the libraries any more? We used to having hitching posts for horses. Now we will have to have larger parking spaces for giant tractors. We have three libraries with in 10 miles of us and that is two two many. Wausaukee Composites expands to Cuba City
Company expects to add 70 employees at 3 Wisconsin plants
By Richard
Ryman rryman@greenbaypressgazette.com
WAUSAUKEE — Wausaukee Composites will begin production of parts for wind
turbines at a new plant in Cuba City next week. The Marinette County composite plastic and fiberglass components manufacturer is building wind turbine A nacelle housings for two wind turbine generator manufacturers.
A nacelle is a protective covering on a generator. The company said the two contracts are expected to generate more than $35 million in sales over three years.
Production workers can apply at the plants in Wausaukee or Gillett, or at Nicolet Staffing in Iron Mountain, Manpower in Menominee or ABR Employment Services in Green Bay. Professional workers are being hired through the corporate headquarters at the Wausaukee plant.
The company has pretty much depleted the labor pool in Wausaukee and is
drawing workers from Green Bay and Marinette in Wisconsin and Iron Mountain,
Kingsford and Escanaba in Michigan, he said.

plan

US/Eastern
The US Senate failed Wednesday to advance its own version of an
economic stimulus program, boosting the odds for a White House-backed version
approved last week by the House of Representatives.
Backers fell short of the 60 votes needed to end debate and bring the
measure to the floor for passage, with the tally 58-41 in favor.
The vote came amid wrangling in Congress over the details of the stimulus
of some 150 billion dollars to help boost flagging growth by giving tax
rebates and business
incentives.

Limbaugh on McCain:
It's Better to Be Right All the Time
By Howard KurtzWashington Post Staff Writer
Tuesday, February 5, 2008; C01
It may be the best sideshow in
presidential politics: the nation's top radio talker trying to take down the
Republican front-runner in today's Super Tuesday showdown.
"If I believe the country will suffer with either Hillary, Obama or McCain,
I would just as soon the Democrats take the hit . . . rather than a Republican
causing the debacle," he said. "And I would prefer not to have conservative
Republicans in the Congress paralyzed by having to support, out of party
loyalty, a Republican president who is not conservative."
Politically, Limbaugh remained loyal for much of President Bush's tenure,
but after the GOP lost both houses of Congress in 2006, he declared himself
"liberated," saying the Republicans had "let us down" and that "I no longer am
going to have to carry the water for people who I don't think deserve having
their water carried."
Cassie Rene Bernall 1982 - April 20, 1999
When the shooting started, Cassie was in the library, studying Shakespeare.
The gunmen worked their way around to Cassie, who, like the rest of her
classmates, was hiding under a table, praying. One of the gunmen pointed his gun
at Cassie, and asked her the question: "Do you believe in God?” Cassie hesitated
a minute, then she looked right at him and his gun, answering, "Yes, I believe
in God". That was her last words. The gunman asked her "Why?” She had no time to
answer before she was shot to death.

Airport found legitimate in troop treatment
By Audrey HudsonJanuary 31, 2008
The Oakland International Airport did not break any laws or regulations when it denied 200 Marines and soldiers access to the passenger terminal during a layover last year from Iraq to the troops' home base in Hawaii, the Transportation Department says.
The Sept. 27 layover was the last stop for fuel and food, but the troops, who were returning from a tour in Iraq, were denied access to food and bathroom facilities.
Hummmmmmm, Steve, 62% came from PAC's?
Hope no one thinks I might have a certain slant on my posts?
Naw, oh shucks, not little old me!
Oh, by the way, will these laws apply to reservation casino's? Diamond Jim, what's the answer?
Breske also said the main argument made by supporters of the ban — secondhand smoke was harmful to employees and patrons in bars and restaurants who have to breathe it — is "hogwash."
I like this guy, Where's he from again.
The point is if it's legal , let it go, If you don't like it then BAN it. But if you do then where are you going to find the lost tax revenue. Who's going to pay for the children?
Conservatives are down to two serious candidates for the nomination. One
candidate, Mitt Romney, has tried hard to convince us his recent conversion to
the cause is legitimate. (And he
succeeded with Florida conservatives.) The front runner, Sen. McCain, has a
history of thumbing
his nose at us. If he’s going to be the nominee I want to give McCain ample
opportunity for him to convince us he’s one of us.
Congress, president need to work on economy

By Rep. Steve KagenFalling down is painful for everyone. All across
America, and right here at home, families are struggling to keep their heads
above water. Home values are tumbling. If home values are tumbling, can you explain this headline from the
Appleton Post Cresent dated Jan. 25, 2008.
From Ed Lowe Post-Crescent staff writer , . Outagamie's home sales resist slump Valley's housing market nearly holding its own APPLETON All real estate markets are local, the adage goes. Link to article
Again you said "Home values are tumbling".
It mentions existing home sales were off 12.8 percent nationally in 2007 .
Than how can Outagamie County home existing sales reported in Northeastern Wisconsin declined only 1.3 percent for the year. Looks like Northeastern Wisconsin is doing well. Can you tell me what district you represent? Mr Kagen, which is it, 12.8 nationally or 1.3 in Northeastern Wisconsin. It also says "Meanwhile, average sale prices rose in Winnebago and Calumet counties during 2007". Come on, home prices up in Wisconsin? Mr Kagen, can you tell me where are you getting your information or are you deceiving the people of the 8th district again? If average home prices are down, do you ever think there are young people that might want to buy their first home. Did you ever look at all the couples that get married every week and are looking for a home? It's a buyers market! Are you forgetting about your younger constituents of the 8th district?
Unemployment rates are increasing, and costs for health care, gasoline, heating
oil, energy, groceries and education are rising rapidly.
Adjusted Unemployment Rate - 5.0% in Dec 2007. Mr Kagen , can you tell me what bills you passed in congress to help increase jobs? What will you tell the people of the 8th district.
Health care cost rising - Mr. Kagen , why didn't you pass the SCHIP bill the president asked for. Did you tell the people of the 8th district that you tried to have all adults up to age 25 receive government health care? Is your kind of health care working in Canada and England?
Gasoline and heating oil costs rising- Mr Kagen where are you getting your information? This from MSNBC "Price of gas falls 9 cents in last two weeks" National average for gallon of regular was $2.98 Friday, survey says. From MSNBC . Mr Kagen, if you would not prop up the ethanol lobby and drill in ANWR and maybe authorizes some refinery plants , gasoline prices would come down even more.
We must begin to think differently in America. It is time for Congress and the
president to work together and take immediate actions to ease the burden on
those most affected by this emerging economic recession — our middle- and
lower-income families.
What Recession? Mr Kagen, From the Wall Street Journal. The U.S. has not experienced a quarter of negative consumption growth since a modest 0.3% drop in the seasonally adjusted annual rate (SAAR) in the fourth quarter of 1991 and two consecutive negative consumption growth quarters of -2.7% and -1.7% during the fourth quarter of 1990 and the first quarter of 1991 -- the two quarters that marked the last serious American recession. If we have not had a recession since 1991 when will we be in the next recession. Again, as of now, we are not in a RECESSION! Your doom and gloom is scaring the people of the 8th district!
Everywhere I go, people are telling me they feel uneasy: retirees in
Clintonville surviving on fixed incomes, working families in Green Bay,
students in De Pere, homeowners across the 8th district, and even public
school teachers who once thought they would never be laid off.Mr. Kagen, when will you help all of us and spend less with ear marks and stop
taking away so much of our tax money. IT'S OUR
MONEY, NOT YOURS!Last week in Niagara, for example, 319 papermaking jobs disappeared along with another 125 paper jobs in Kimberly. These were higher wage jobs that put food on the table and helped pay the mortgages for hard-working Wisconsin families. In my view, the good people of Niagara and Kimberly are paying the price for our nation's unfair and unbalanced trade agreements. NAFTA and CAFTA-like trade policies failed to deliver the prosperity promised by professional politicians, as we are compelled to compete against slave-like labor in foreign lands. If we allow these unfair policies to continue, they may soon bankrupt all of us. Congress and the president must take steps immediately to do what is best for American workers and American jobs.
Todd Lohenry said it best from his January 24th post on DR. K's. dribble, "For the better part of President George W. Bush’s second term, Democrats have led repeated assaults on the performance of the U.S. economy. However, the talking points given to House Democrats are hardly new. Blame any job losses immediately on free trade agreements and unfair trade practices by China. And deny an economic recovery ever took place under the Bush administration."Democrats in general and Steve Kagen in particular, need to stop blaming President Bush for the sad state of affairs in Wisconsin and point the finger where it belongs -- firmly in the direction of Governor Doyle. Read on -- this gets good... Right on Todd!
We must begin to secure our very way of life. For hard-working people in Niagara, in Kimberly and for all our nation's children, I urge the president to design an economic stimulus package that is targeted at middle and lower income citizens, and measured so as to prevent inflationary pressures later this year. What about the people who pay taxes? , I agree some kind of stimulus package should be done but , geeez, Dr. K. you sure are pandering!
Everything should be on the table for discussion including extending unemployment benefits for affected workers, providing targeted tax rebates and increasing earned income tax credits, as well as temporary tax cuts for small businesses. O K, temporary tax cuts, Oh thank you kind sir. How about permanent tax cuts.
While your at it, will you pay every ones car and truck payments for six months? How about paying peoples rent for six months? How about pay every ones grocery bills for six months? How about paying every ones home owners insurance? Could you also pay for my gasoline for the next six months? I'd like to get a snowmobile, can you pay for one of those too? Where is all this money coming from Mr Kagen?
I also call upon the president to immediately convene a Fair Competition Committee, as England did a generation ago, to determine if we can afford to sell any more of our nation's assets to foreign entities. WAIT I'M LOST, WHERE DID HE GET THIS FROM? Another committee to do what? Holy cow, the mother ship is about to land, this is getting scary! He must be talking to Ron and Dennis.
When foreign nations and foreign kingdoms own all our manufacturing plants, all our farms, all our roads and our railroads, we will have lost everything without firing a single shot. Simply put, if we don't make anything, we won't have anything. Comrade Kagen, you are correct, you want this to happen and it is called socialism. Remember the Soviet Union or did you not take World History in school.
Let's invest our tax dollars right here at home rebuilding our highways and bridges, our infrastructure and school buildings. Lets see, road builders lobby, home builders lobby, bridge builders lobby. These long-term investments will immediately generate higher wage jobs and boost small businesses and families alike. What small businesses? We must not keep falling deeper into debt, for the simple fact is we cannot spend our way into prosperity. Why do you libs keep adding earmarks if you say we cannot spend our way into prosperity! I am hopeful that by working together across party lines, we will begin to resolve this economic recession and bring an end to the borrow-and-spend government policy that caused this mess. Hey, how many times do we have to tell you "we are not in a recession and your one of those in Washington that is borrowing -and-spending. Building a more secure future begins next week in Congress as we find ways to agree on a stimulus package that is fiscally responsible and paid for over a reasonable time frame. Paid for is code word for raising taxes! Falling down is painful, but that is apparently how we learn. Rep. Steve Kagen, D-Appleton, represents the 8th Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives. Web site: http://kagen.house.gov/.
Mr Kagen, please be honest with the people of the 8th district. Some of us are having difficult times but please do not bend the truth. You were sent to Washington to serve the people of the 8th district. Not grow government, but to reduce government. Not raise taxes but to reduce taxes. You cannot even be honest with the people of Niagara, Kimberly, Appleton, all the people of the 8th district! You cannot even be honest with the retirees in Clintonville surviving on fixed incomes, not honest with working families in Green Bay, not honest with students in De Pere, not honest with homeowners across the 8th district, and you can't even be honest with public school teachers. What a shame.
The people of the 8th district deserve better. We need to get you back to your practice.
Waiting for Reagan You fight an election with the politicians you

Conservative editorialists, radio hosts, and bloggers are unhappy. They
don't like the Republican presidential field, and many of them have been heaping
opprobrium on the various GOP candidates with astonishing vigor. For example:
John McCain--with a lifetime American Conservative Union rating of 82.3--is
allegedly in no way a conservative. And, though the most favorably viewed of all
the candidates right now, both among Republicans and the electorate as a whole,
he would allegedly destroy the Republican party if nominated.[ Yes , this is true] Or
take Mike Huckabee. He was a well-regarded and successful governor of Arkansas,
reelected twice, the second time with 40 percent of the black vote. He's come
from an asterisk to second in the national GOP polls with no money and no
establishment support. Yet he is supposedly a buffoon and political naïf. [ So far Mr Kristol, you are correct] He's been staunchly
pro-life and pro-gun and is consistently supported by the most conservative
primary voters--but he is, we're told, no conservative either.[ No he is not!] Or Mitt
Romney. He's a man of considerable accomplishments, respected by many who have
worked with and for him in various endeavors. He took conservative positions on
social issues as governor of Massachusetts, and parlayed a one-term governorship
of a blue state into a first-tier position in the Republican race.[ I don't like flip flopper's] But he, too, we're told, is deserving of no respect. And though he's embraced conservative policies and seems likely to be steadfast in pursuing them--he's no conservative either.
One could go on. And it's true the Republican
candidates are not unproblematic. But they are so far performing more credibly
than much of the conservative commentariat. Beyond the normal human frailties
that affect all of us, including undoubtedly the commentators at this journal,
there is one error that is distorting much conservative discussion of the
presidential race. It's -Reagan nostalgia. It's foolish to wait for another
Ronald Reagan. But not just because his political gifts are rare. There's a
particular way in which Reagan was exceptional that many of us fail to
appreciate: He was the only president of the last century who came to the office
as the leader of an ideological movement. Reagan gave "The Speech" in October
1964, inherited the leadership of the conservative movement after Goldwater's
loss, defeated a moderate establishment Republican two years later to win the
GOP nomination for governor of California, and then defeated the Democratic
incumbent. He remained in a sense the leader of conservatives nationally while
serving two terms as governor, ran unsuccessfully against Gerald Ford in 1976,
and won the presidency in 1980. He was a conservative first and a politician
second, a National Review and Human Events reader first and an elected official
second. This is exceedingly unusual. The normal American president is a
politician, with semicoherent ideological views, who sometimes becomes a vehicle
for an ideological movement. Franklin Roosevelt, John Kennedy, and George W.
Bush are typical. They can be good nominees and effective presidents. They can
advance the cause of a movement that works with them and through them. But
they're not Reagans. [ Who said they were Reagan?] This year's GOP field is, in this sense, normal. Conservatives [ I do not want a NORMAL Conservative!] will find
things to like and dislike, to trust and distrust, in each of the candidates.
All of this is fine. [ No, it is not fine] And one could argue that a primary process featuring debate and competition is also fine, that it is healthier than a coronation, and that the party nominee could well emerge stronger from the process.
[Not with the three above mentioned]
So the conservative commentariat should take a deep breath, be a bit less judgmental about these individuals--and realize that there is not likely to be a second Reagan. [ We do not want another Reagan, there was only one!] [We want someone with
CONSERVATIVE ideals] They could also learn from liberalism's history.
Liberalism was the most successful American political movement of the first
two-thirds of the 20th century. Its three iconic presidents were Theodore
Roosevelt, Franklin Roosevelt, and John Kennedy. All advanced the liberal cause
while in office. None was a standard-bearer for liberalism before becoming
president--though each was inclined in a more or less progressive direction.
What it means to be a serious, successful, and mature political movement is to
take men like these--one might say to take advantage of men like these--in order
to advance one's principles and cause. So conservatives might think of John
McCain as our potential TR, Mike Huckabee as our potential FDR, and Mitt Romney
as our potential JFK. Support the one you prefer. But don't work yourself into a
frenzy against the others. Let the best man emerge from a challenging primary
process. [Mr Kristols definition of the "best Man"and true conservatives are two different meaning and people] And if there is no clear-cut winner, then the delegates at the GOP convention can turn on the fifth ballot to an obvious fallback compromise candidate, one who would be just fine with conservatives--Dick Cheney!--William Kristol

Kaloti

The company's defense: It didn't know the
products were counterfeit.
While many brand-name products are counterfeited, Potter said, "I must tell
