BOSTON (CBS) – A die-hard Nascar fan got to live out her fantasy at the New Hampshire Motor Speedway on Tuesday.
Rachel Gilbert, who is approaching her 100th birthday, got to take a few laps around the track.
WBZ NewsRadio 1030′s Lana Jones reports.
Gilbert, a Nascar fan since she and her husband went to The Daytona 500 50 years ago, sounded a little bit overwhelmed. She was aiming to hit 100 miles per hour.
“I wish I could have (reached 100 mph), you know, but I went up to 53 or 54,” said Gilbert."

Shawano, New Lights Might, Could Save Money

Work crews with the city of Shawano started the arduous process this week of installing 595 LED lights on street lamps, which will cover more than two-thirds of the community’s lights.
Shawano received a grant for $159,500 to install the lights. To get the grant, the city had to put up $173,750 as a matching contribution.
There are 880 street lamps within the city, but the mass replacement of most of the old high-pressure sodium vapor lights will produce many benefits, according to City Administrator Jim Stadler. Besides the potential energy savings that could cut down on city costs, the LED lights will also cover a focused area that should avoid infringing on residents’ property while keeping the streets lit.
Can someone explain what "potential energy savings" means? Will it or will the new lights not save the city money? In the same sentence, "could cut down on city costs", so Jim's not sure? Why did the city spend $173,750 if he's not sure if it will save money?
When will the people of Shawano wake up. Seems they might want to replace their city administrator.

"Yes, the bad news is, the deadline has passed; the good news is, you will likely get an extension.
Unfortunately, that's not taxes we're talking about, but the deadline for the registration of older piers in Wisconsin, which was April 1.
Under current law, older piers are considered exempt from regulation so long as their platform is less than 200 square feet (or 300 square feet, but can be no more than 10 feet wide), was placed prior to Feb 6, 2004, and was registered with the state Department of Natural Resources by April 1, 2011.
Now, with that deadline passed and with perhaps thousands of such piers still not registered, the chairmen of the Assembly and Senate Natural Resources Committees have introduced companion legislation to extend the registration deadline for those exempt - or 'grandfathered' - piers, and they also say they are going to work to modify the regulations themselves.
Sen. Neal Kedzie (R-Elkhorn) and Rep. Jeff Mursau (R-Crivitz) both say they believe significant changes are necessary to address confusion and complications with the law."

"Mike Tate, chairman of the Democratic Party of Wisconsin said in a statement that his organization launched the telephone campaign Monday in response to reports of people who had been “misled by Republican petition circulators.”
“To ensure people haven't been duped or lied to by shady political operatives, we performed a random survey of petition signers,” Tate said in a statement released on Tuesday. “The phone vendor who performed the survey acknowledges it mistakenly called from an inaccurate number for a limited number of calls, which inadvertently led some people who received these calls to believe they were emanating from Aurora Baycare in Green Bay. The calls did not come from Aurora Baycare nor does Aurora Baycare have any involvement in the party's efforts to resolve concerns with questionable tactics that were used by the Republican circulators. When you're in a city like Milwaukee – where I am writing from this morning – it's hard to get perspective, especially if you live here. It's like another planet. In the neighborhood, which is very Democratic, yards are still aflutter with JoAnne Kloppenburg signs, while there's a rightly visible number of Recall Walker bumper stickers on cars. One friend of mine insists that a successful Walker recall is a done deal; she cannot envision any way he could win. She works, of course, at UW-Milwaukee.
That's what happens when you live in a political environment that is not only one-sided but in the minority. People get embedded in the immediate world around them, and they tell each other what they all want to hear, and convince themselves the entire world agrees with them. It's called Group Think, and it's what the DNR has done internally for years.
Go read the rest.

surpasses the 15,960 signatures required, a testimony to voter's widespread anger over Holperin's abandonment of their values
and lack of concern for fiscal responsibility in the state.
Holperin is one of the 14 AWOL Senators who left their positions at the Wisconsin state capital last February and fled to Illinois in their attempt to stop the vote on Governor Scott Walker's Budget Repair Bill. Constituents from the 12th District were both angry and embarrassed by the behavior of their elected official who chose to align himself with the unions and a small minority of union supporters, instead of the majority of voters in his district.
When Holperin refused to return to the state and perform his elected duties despite numerous requests by constituents, the
voters of the 12th Senate District immediately set to the task of gathering the needed signatures to recall him. Then, as they
faced severe winter weather and the demands of a huge rural district, they found themselves threatened, badgered, and
intimidated nearly every step of the way by the unions. At one point they were circled and nearly mobbed in a Merrill, Wisconsin,
an incident that resulted in some petitions being ripped up while others were defaced with vulgar language from a angry

Is Mr Olsen against state or federal mandates on corn ethanol? Please reply.
If Mr. Olsen is for ethanol mandates and subsidies then I will fight him tooth and nail to get him replaced in the Wisconsin Senate for not standing up for the people of Wisconsin. One for walking away from the collective bargaining law and two for propping up corn whores in the ethanol industry.

The citizen group seeking to recall state Sen. Jim Holperin said it plans to file recall petitions with state election officials this week.
Bob Rajek, chairman of the Republican Party of Lincoln County and one of the organizers of the Jim Holperin Recall Committee, said the group has collected more than the 15,960 signatures required to hold a recall election. Holperin is one of the 14 Democratic state senators who left the state to block passage of Gov. Scott Walker’s proposal to end collective bargaining rights for most public employees.
Rajek said he didn’t know exactly how many signatures were collected but guessed the group had more than 20,000. He said organizers plan to hold a conference call tonight or tomorrow to decide on a delivery date for the documents.
Kim Simac, organizer of the recall committee, first announced the group’s plans on Saturday during a tea party rally in Madison.

NASCAR, We Went To Talladega Alabama
The wonderful and beautiful Mrs Berry Laker and I were married twenty three years ago this past Saturday. Let me back up two weeks. As we were watching the NASCAR race at Martinsville Mrs B asked if I wanted to go to Talladega? She was off from work and we have never been to the dega track. I said Honey, what ever you want we can do.
So she ordered tickets, $49 a day for tickets and free camping next to the track.So Friday we started our trek to Talladega Alabama. Left at 5:00 m, hit Nashville around 6:00 that night and drove as far as Decatur Al. and stayed at the Comfort Suites.
Got up early on Saturday, at at the I Hop and headed for Birmingham. Headed east on HWY 20 and pulled into the dega track by 10:30. We pretty much threaded the needle on all the tornado's that went through the south. Our prayers are for those who lost life and damage to their belongings. Watched a GREAT Nationwide race but was not happy with the 18 wining.
Our camp site was 10 minutes from the track so all was good on not having a long walk.Meet our camping neighbours from Atlanta and Dayton Ohio. What GREAT people.
Woke up to 45 degree sleeping in the tent, had breakfast and packed for the track. What a race. My 2011 driver Jimmy Johnson wins by 2 , 1000th of a second. WOW!!!!!!!
Packed up and left at 6:00, drove to Cullman Al. and stayed the night. Got up at 6:00, ate and drove strait through Nashville, Louisville, Indy, Chicago into Wisconsin and back home around 9:00 pm. What a GREAT weekend and what a special angel I have in Mrs B. Love you dear.
Well I talked enough, here's some picks from the weekend.

Police say a 41 year old man called in a threat to the VA Clinic in Wausau and said he was going to come over with a rifle. He lives near Highway X in Kronenwetter."
Wait till Friday when republicans and Scott Walker will be blamed for this guy because republicans are not going to raise the federal debt and Walker is taking away collective bargaining. Wonder if this is a laid off teacher? You can't put nothing past the left

When it became apparent last year that the Republicans would retake the house I had conversations with several people who are much more knowledgeable of Republican leadership than I. I told them my reservations about Boehner becoming speaker and how everything I had seen from him lead me to believe that he was another Washington lifer who would say or do what he needed to to keep his position. I was told by several of them that Boehner was the “real deal.” While now living in Kentucky, I agreed to be from Missouri and be shown that Boehner was a conservative.

I am now on record as saying that Boehner is the embodiment of everything that is wrong with the Republican party. Boehner is either a charlatan or ignorant. Regardless of which, he is not worthy of leading a party’s effort that is overwhelmingly made up of a base that desires, no, DEMANDS reductions in government spending.
This continuing resolution needs to be voted down. Boehner needs to be personally repudiated by any true House conservative for putting them in a position of having to support this sham of an agreement.
I hate Nancy Pelosi. I despise everything about the woman. Even with my level of disdain for her I give her props for one thing; she has a set of balls as big as two moons hung side by side. Nancy has balls and Boehner is a eunuch!"

Currently oil companies get about $4 billion a year as tax breaks. During the State of the Union address, President Obama asked congress to stop providing oil companies with subsidies in light of record profits. MADISON –A donation of 250 bags of sunflower seed will be planted at numerous small fields across Wisconsin to support populations of mourning doves and other wildlife species.
The state Natural Resources Board accepted the donation valued at $75,000 from Ducks Unlimited and Dow AgroSciences at its March 23 meeting in Madison.

MADISON –A donation of 250 bags of sunflower seed will be planted at numerous small fields across Wisconsin to support populations of mourning doves and other wildlife species.
The state Natural Resources Board accepted the donation valued at $75,000 from Ducks Unlimited and Dow AgroSciences at its March 23 meeting in Madison.
Each bag is sufficient for planting roughly 6 acres for a total of 1,500 acres of sunflowers and represents a roughly two-year supply at current planting levels."

Seems The AP and Green Bay Press Left Out Something
From the AP and the Green Bay Press. Seems the two AP writers left out two important sentences about the situation from Waukasha County and the article about the Prosser Kloppenburg race for Wis. Supreme Court..Here's from the GBP.
Ramona Kitzinger, the vice chair of Waukesha County Democratic Party who observed the canvass, said she is satisfied the numbers are correct.
"We went over everything and made sure all the numbers jibed up and they did," she said.

Bonduel teachers give up more than money

Bonduel teachers gave up more than money in their recent contract negotiations with the School Board.
They also gave up tenure, or seniority, in layoff situations - long a key aspect of most union contracts.
Under the two-year contract extension approved last week, however, layoff and subsequent hiring decisions will be based on merit rather than seniority.
“We were disappointed that those sections of the contract were removed — it took a lot of years to have the contract language implemented — but considering the circumstances that the alternative would have been no extension at all, we agreed to it,” said Chris Reinke, BEA president.
Yep, at least they saved the union membership dues.
The wage freeze ($25,000) and benefits changes (retirement $190,000, insurance $85,000) will save the district about $300,000. The district gained another $35,000 when teachers agreed to drop longterm care insurance and a $45,000 savings with a reduction in the alternate benefit plan for teachers who elected not to take insurance.
The new contract also eliminated the “sick leave bank,” which allowed teachers, after 15 years of employment, to be credited $45 per day for unused, accumulated sick leave. Under the contract extension, teachers will get 10 sick days per year and 120 days maximum.
How can this happen without Gov Walker even passing his plan? Huh! Good for the people running the school district.

Finance reports filed Monday with the county clerk's office show the candidates, Thomas Nelson and Jack Voight, have raised more than $175,000 since entering the race.
Let's take a look at the money..

MILWAUKEE — Former Democratic Gov. Patrick Lucey is withdrawing his support for Justice David Prosser for Supreme Court and is throwing it to Assistant Attorney General JoAnne Kloppenburg.
Lucey released a statement to the media Thursday evening saying the campaign has revealed what he called "a disturbing distemper and lack of civility" in Prosser, though he did not cite specifics.
So the Thursday before the election Lucey all of a sudden changes his mind. Why did he first support Prosser and who told him to switch now? And what does he mean by "a disturbing distemper and lack of civility" in Prosser? Maybe Lucey should watch this video.
So did his union nurse tell him something else? Did Lucey really say that? With what the left has done so far, I don't think Lucey did what he really wanted to do. A shame the left will do anything. Even to a 93 year old former governor.

Her past is the best indication how she would vote on the high court. If Kloppenburg wins, anti-property rights’ forces will control the court, and could for years to come.

D C Republicans Running Scared On The Budget
Listening to Sean Hannity talking to Wisconsin's Paul Ryan on delay on 1130 WISN. He is telling me nothing about the present budget battle and is getting excited about the next budget he is writing.
Ryan is touting the bill he is writing. Mr. Ryan, what is the difference between the present budget and the one you are writing? The democrats are blocking the bills in the senate now and they will block everything Ryan will bring up in next years budget. To paraphrase him, he said he will have a budget that will cut trillions. Doesn't matter what budget Ryan proposes. Ryan's budget is DEAD ON ARRIVAL. How can he pass the next budget if they can't do anything with the present budget? Ryan will lose on the budget and lose everything this county ever stood for. We are stuck with the democrat senate till January of 2013.
Do you understand what he is saying? We are SCREWED till the 2012 election and if Obama and the democratic senate is not taken down in 2012, we can kiss this country GOOD BYE forever!
Ryan and the republican house can't do anything with the budget's, Can't cut spending, can't cut Obama Care, can't do anything and the democrats and Obama know it. He pretty much admitted it on Hannity's show. It's the first time I heard Paul Ryan running scared. Republicans are afraid of shutting down the government and sold their souls to the devil himself!
Ryan and the republicans now in DC sold the voters a pair of goods that they can do nothing with. Go ahead, ask Paul Ryan if after he comes out with his next budget, can they pass it with the democrat controlled senate? Ryan cannot pass anything with Ried and Obama?
